If i categorize everything i would spend a month.

But i can estimate that i already spent more than five thousand easily (i started reading manga when i was 14 ~ 15 years old because almost everyone on my school read it, and i am 26 so...) because almost everything that i read i buy.

I have just under 200 volumes I believe...

the prices vary too much though. Anywhere from 12.99 to like 29.99.

My guesstimate is somewhere around $2500 CAD, not counting my old shonen jump magazines I collected growing up. Those probably push the total over $3000.

Manga is a new, but expanding hobby of mine. I've spent about $425 on it in the last year and have about another $140 set aside for preorders I have.

I have 194 volumes and 66 of them are in French, they're more expensive (14$), the rest are in English, which is around 11-12$, but I have 4 omnibus as well (Blood Lad and D.Gray-man), and they cost around 16$, so total is around (taxes not included): 2476$ CAD.

I mostly read online, and buy only the ones I especially enjoyed.

So reading manga isn't that expensive of a hobby. (Of course, I watch more anime than read manga)

Also I try to get the Japanese version because they're cheaper (in Japan and shipped to where I live).

The total costprice is €3119.85, but this also includes the manga I've sold second hand. I sold 367 manga for €933.9 (they costed €1188.34). The cost price of the manga I have on the moment is €2865.41 for 365 manga's.

If you question how I know this, I've got a list were I hold all the information on from the manga I own. I did have some time to make a list of it, so now I know how much it costs.
Also, I started with collecting in 2010.

Let's see... my first volume was in 2002 (I was a wee 7 yr old) and my last was around 2011. The early ones were cheaper so altogether they vary from $10-12 each; I'd say around $572 minimum. Looking back on it now, I really wouldn't have bought some of the series I did. They weren't worth it. I should have waited until they were done publishing and that I was absolutely sure I wanted it, not just for the sake of having them (the tsubasa series... lord...)
I'm debating on selling some of them now actually, if I can ignore the attachment :/

A lot. I have no idea. I don't pay full price for anything, and hell, I just picked up 50 manga for $10! Awesome sale, lol, but I typically get my manga for half off these days (30% off being a low percentage).

Been collecting since 02' though, I probably buy 20 manga a month maybe? Depending on what comes out.

For people that buy volumes, do you read it online first and buy for re-reads or just buy it the first time around?

I used to buy Dragonball Z and Shin Chan when younger but since I started reading online, I haven't spent anything on physical copies. Personally, I like to binge read manga and I'm a fast reader so it'd be too expensive to buy everything. Also, I prefer fan translations to official ones that dumb it down/censor for the uptight. And nowadays, there's less reason to go a bookstore/library when everything is online. Also, english volumes take foreverrr to come out

I rarely blind buy, because I'm not always sure if it's a good series or not. So, yes I read online first.

I've only blind bought four times:
2 single volumes (as in they weren't scanlated online and had only one volume)
1 series (eternal sabbath volume 4-6 because I thought I would love this series as much as I loved Mars)
1 series (Saturn Apartments volume 1, 4-7, because it looks like Aria/Honey and Clover and I actually liked it)

The only series I blind bought was Gyakuten Saiban..but it's based on one of my fave video games series so that was my main reason. Turned out to be fantastic.

Aside from that I got a couple volume 1's as birthday presents and kinda got into them so I bought more in the series.

But no I won't just pick something up off the shelf without knowing anything about it.
