Now THIS is why this anime's worth a 10 to me. It doesn't just focus on kageyama and hinata combo only, but takes the time to flesh out the other characters as well! Can't wait for next week's episode to finally find out more about Tsukki's backstory :D

It was 2 millimeters, so 0.2 cm. 2 cm would be crazy lol.

Yeah, Tsukki is one of the guys I really dont like out of the cast, Tanaka did describe him pretty well.
Still the way he acting in this episode was really awkward being awfully polite here and there.
Also cool how Ace dude defending his position and Hinata is like "damn, better not mess with him".

The OST for this show is great. I wonder how amazing of a player the older Tsukishima was. I'm looking forward to more development for Taukishima. He was always one of the less interesting characters of this series for me. Hopefully he can gain some passion for volleyball and become a great player for Karasuno.

Agreed.

Tsukki’s always been one of the more complex characters in the series, so I’m glad we’re getting to learn more about him now, and what makes him tick. Seems like his brother’s own experiences with the sport/his team had a huge effect on Tsukki’s feelings towards volleyball. Looking forward to getting more character growth from Tsukki. Next episode should be good!

As far as this season is concerned, even if we’re not getting actual matches, it’s nice that we’re getting a lot of character development and evolution. I'm okay with this.

Great episode of Haikyuu!! I loved how this episode primarily focused on Tsukishima. Lately he has been put to the side so I'm really glad he's getting more spotlight. I'm curious to find out what happened with his brother. I hope he becomes open with the other Karasuno team members and become more positive than pessimistic; although that is part of his character trait. xD

I loved how the Karasuno members all tried out their new techniques/style that they practiced/trained during the course of the training arc. It was nice to see Hinata and Kageyama acknowledged each other that they have both changed. Awesome to see Asahi get his spotlight and made an awesome spike; Hinata was so careful as well. :P I really liked the scene where the girls came with watermelons too. Needs more girls in Haikyuu mmm~

We see that while most of Karasuno's team members have been working hard to improve themselves, they haven't had a chance to work together in order to sync up with each others' newer abilities.

Tsukishima is the only one who hasn't been doing any additional practice, and it comes across as if he doesn't care. But there's a hint dropped in this episode as to why Tsukishima acts the way he does. And from the preview for the next episode, it looks like we'll get to see at least one flashback of Tsukishima from when he was a kid. I'm looking forward to seeing that, and hopefully finally getting to understand Tsukishima's motivations. Both Tsukishima and his friend have primarily been background characters for a while, so it's good to see Tsukishima finally getting some focus and backstory.

It was also nice to see Karasuno having more interactions with members of the other teams they're playing against during these practice matches.

So it seems the reason why Tsukishima doesn't give it his all is because it didn't work out for his brother who gave his all or something along those lines. Maybe the Little Giant took over his position?

It really is scary to have everyone improving and possibly taking over the former's roles. Karasuno's Ace really knows what's up!

As expected from Nekoma's coach, great perception! With all those information, it's even more scarier to find out what kind of tricks/plans he has up his sleeve!

Tsukki's definitely slacking for a reason, and now we know why! Can't wait for next ep!

Preparatory to that episode that will have to come later, narrative is well made, the different steps are temporally well placed, I was bored to follow him. Change perspective and make room for Tsukki is a good choice, the atmosphere in the camp is addictive. The drawings and animations are great, the same can be said about the characters, always funny and original in their own way. I look forward to the next episode.

I'm really interested in Tsukki now he reminds me so much of myself, I also liked Asahi's mindset & I really hope it inspires Tsukki to feel more confident. Just because the spotlight is mostly on Hinata doesn't mean the rest are fodders. I love seeing everyone training, it's as nice as the actual matches. 5/5

Finally we're getting to the one touchy subject I was waiting for the show to adress: Tsukki's attitude towards the game and his teammates. Seems like he doesn't despise the sport so much as he despises what it has done to his brother (and by the looks of it the devastating effect it had on their relationship). In his mind getting too involved will only lead him to get hurt, so y even bother?
The thing is, everyone is trying their damnest right now, and if he doesn't make up his mind soon his ass is about to get left.

It's good to see everyone working hard during practice. Except for Tsukishima. I hope that whatever it is that is making him unable to give his all into volleyball is something that he can get over soon. It is a pity that he doesn't practice as hard has everyone else, he has good potential.

I also feel like he shouldn't worry too much about Hinata surpassing him. Hinata is a good player, no doubt. But I also feel like Hinata and Tsukishima have different qualities they can bring to the team. And even though they might have the same position now, who says they will have it in the future?

I just hope Tsukishima will give his all in the future practices. And take the chance to practice with other team's members if he gets the offer.
Even if the future is locked or erased I won't end this prayer because I want to convey my real feelings to you

I've been waiting for this sort of episode since Tsukki first got introduced *_*

Definitely loving how character driven season 2 is though- everyone's getting their time to shine and this time it's Tsukishima, who's pretty much the outlier to all the other Karasuno guys.

Obviously gonna be biased because he's one of my favorites next to Kageyama and Asahi. I thought it was pretty sad to see him isolate himself from everyone, and have all the other guys talking about how much of a waste his height is...he could be an insane player if he actually pulled his weight well enough.

Hopefully he pulls his finger out and tries some more!

Also loved Asahi's menacing aura basically telling Hinata "back off bitch, this one's mine" XD

I love how Karasuno really are just a bunch of kids who fall in love with every girl they meet. Shimizu, Tanaka's sister, Yachi, or even a cafeteria lady in the background.

Lev may be my favorite Haikyu antagonist. I've already gone into why to some degree but this episode showcased it all. He's such a clumsy dude but he tries really hard running off of pure instincts and talent.
He loves volleyball but he's reminiscent to Hinata when he started but with some biological advantages. He's always in high spirits and has a great sense of provocation, his challenges are antagonistic but in good spirit to drive competition.
And I love his relationship to Hinata. He was one of the pushes that sent him to absolute desperation by feeding him the idea to indulge in his greed, and they have a rivalry that's really tongue n cheek. Lev immediately goes to say hi to Hinata and you can see when Hinata forgets he's supposed to hate Lev and has a good time with him before promptly remembering he's supposed to not like him.
He's so great!

I didn't realize Tsukki wasn't in the montage last time but it was for good reason!
Tsukki has never been one to give it 100% and when faced with the same desperation as the rest of the team in a scramble to improve he represents dismantling and giving up in the face of a threat. Hinata is nearing him and because of some brother issues in his past he thinks fighting for this only to lose it will end in suffering. I assume maybe the little giant even stole his brothers position too if they want to get poetic about it! It's cool to see the story focus on a Tsukki character arc.
And on the flip side Asahi's representing challenging the threat out of desperation rather than falling apart. Both have the same fear and due to differnet personalities and pasts Asahi is deciding to grow from this desperate scramble and team rivalry.

Speaking of that teamly rivalry the Nekoma coach brought up, it's great how complex this issue that started with Hinata has gotten. Fear, desperation, and greed- never wanting to get off the court makes everyone fight for their positions among themselves and scramble to improve for prelims. Everyone is able to push forward and improve because of this but Tsukki. It's awesome to see the team not try to win but try and improve. Shimizu brought up how scary their motivation is right now but what they're doing is the way to do it. Play to learn, not to win, at least until the prelims! They're openly accepting losing games after games to master their new techniques and this is how you grow. They swallow their shame and push on just like crows. The wise coach is the one to see it.

Hinata being grounded from his lessons with Ukai, with seeing eye to eye and being connected once more with Kageyama, and while feeling less desperate and understanding his role on the team right now and what he should be focusing on, had that incredible scene where he respected Asahi and held back, fighting the ace monster inside him. It was probably my favorite moment in the episode. Him trying to fight to become ace was a bad move that came from greed, it was evolution for the worse. But, now that he knows what to practice on, now that he understands where he stands and has a grasp on how to improve he doesn't feel the need to fight to stay on the court anymore. He feels the need to fight for the skies and master those quicks while giving Asahi respect as the ace. Hinata's dilemma here was so complex, and real, and it's super impressive. From a place of feeling useless and weak Hinata wanted to force himself into the ace position so it wouldn't slip away but now he realizes that forcing it isn't good for him or the team. I'm glad hes getting grounded.

I hope we see Yamaguchi growing some backbone, he clearly cares about Tsukki but he doesn't have the confidence to speak up. I hope Hinata can influence him to start to be less docile and quiet like he did for Yachi who if you noticed asked to help herself this time! Last time it was Kageyama and Hinata who had to ask her. She's getting more comfortable and confident.

Lastly, I love the work Haikyu goes through to show us the blood, sweat and tears of Karasuno's work. It makes the tournament arcs excellently built up to and it makes the skill improvement that carries them through it satisfying and believable!

I think I know what happened to Tsukishima's older brother that also affected him so much. Basically he loves volleyball so much and sacrificed a lot to be better but still he lost and then he was overcome with sadness and frustration that he got traumatized by it and he was never the same again and this, obviously didn't leave a good impression to Tsukishima. That's why even though he likes volleyball he doesn't want to give it his best in order not to end up like his brother. And Yamaguchi is probably a childhood friend who knows all this.
