I know I already posted here but I re-read the thread again.

Are there really that many who do this? I think aside from the aforementioned katsucats, I can't recall another one doing it.

That being said, I really don't know so enlighten me?

Not like every country has the same education system anyway, let alone grading

Either way why would anyone care about that?

Yeah, well it's like saving up all your star-writer stickers you keep getting and putting them on your schoolbag. People are going to be impressed somewhat by the array of achievements but they're also going to think you're pretty smug with some need to stand out. You might as well wear a badge saying "I am better than you - suck on that".

But this is common sense, OP, don't you think by making a big deal of it that you're giving people a chance to wind you up? People don't have to be making a serious statement by putting the grades up. Obviously Katsu's proud of those good grades, but it's also probably just trollbait for people dense enough to take it too seriously.

It was quite frankly embarrassing because he thought people would take his opinion more seriously. This is equivalent of that. Let me not get started on the numerous fake transcript sites that are available and so none of this should be taken seriously.

To tell the truth, its just people's attitude towards 'grades' that makes people think its something bad. Ok, here's the thing:

-A musician works hard on a track and puts his work in his about me.
MAL: wow cool you're awesome!
-A no-life weaboo spends years trying to collect the most sexually stimulating pictures and put it in his about me.
MAL: thanks man you saved my life.
-A kewl teenager puts his best memes on his profile that he spent months trying to come up with.
MAL: LOL m8 8/8

And the list goes on. But when someone puts his grades up, that guy suddenly becomes an egotistical faggot. Grades are just another 'achievement'. If someone puts them up, it merely tells you what kind of person they might be irl. MAL might be dedicated to anime but its a lot more than that. In conclusion: putting up your grades in your about me is just as much a choice as putting up porn is. If people judge you for that, its their problem but don't say that its 'irrelevant' or whatnot.

Difference is those other things you listed others can enjoy, you listen to the song and if you like it you say good job sounds good. Putting your high grades up is for one reason alone, to brag. It doesn't involve anyone else its just look at how great I am or how much smarter i must be than most of mal.

and beyond that as others have said, nobody actually cares. We can care about music, we don't care how smart someone is, it doesn't hold any ground when it comes to been likable or making friends. This is Mal you don't need to be an egghead to get respect or be liked, its not a brain measuring contest its a mix of people from all walks of life. Last thing we care about is your grades.

Maybe it has something to do with perceived intention. Most people don't like being reminded of their grades, so when someone posts their it seems rather egotistical because of the competitiveness in it. Few things are as universal as grades, whereas music has such a limited scope we feel that it doesn't apply to us. Its a common rule not to ask about other peoples SAT scores nor tell others what scores you got, and that it applies to online as well.

I'll speak for myself: I don't enjoy most of the stuff people put on their profiles.

Anyways, intellect is the most preferred traits when it comes to making friends - for me. Though, I'll make friends with everyone but really, this should sum it up:

In conclusion: putting up your grades in your about me is just as much a choice as putting up porn is. If people judge you for that, its their problem but don't say that its 'irrelevant' or whatnot.

Nope, I've seen other people do it too (to a lesser degree, Archangels).

Okay, well...
I'll address the OP better.

As I'm not familiar with foreign school systems, the grades and the classes don't translate to a lot for me. Maybe if somebody was from my own country then I would find it interesting to spot that we had chosen to study the same things. It is not bad to write about your grades just because it's not incredibly engaging for me though though... If I am on a person's 'about' page then I am there to learn about what is important to the person. Even if it takes up a lot of space just to say 'I am this good at school!': it teaches me that school is one of the things that matters to them. School mattering to someone isn't a terrible thing, and maybe it helps them to succeed if they feel like they need to uphold a standard for other people.

So I don't mind too much.

Depends. Different things hold different values. We don't ask questions considered impolite, such as what grades you got, the value of your car, or anything related to certain achievements such as wealth. Spouting these to strangers seems rather odd and pathetic, which is why some people revile it. We believe this things should remain private lest others feel a lack of confidence in their own SAT scores.

Well personally I don't actually like any profiles its just space filler and a lot of people use ugly pink text (im looking at you fake girls) but speaking for myself whenever I see grades as the focal point I can't help but feel this person is calling attention to their ego but maybe thats personal I don't like the idea of grades defining a person.

In all honesty out of all the things on Mal profiles are not even worth talking about because everyone has one, everyone writes sh*t nobody reads and nobody cares about anything anyone else has to say anyway.

The question this thread poses, in my opinion, is whether people are insecure for showing off their grades, or whether people are projecting their insecurities when they project non self evident values over them? At least for me, it shows who I would never associate with: when academics are pathetic in your value system, we're most likely going to be in 2 different worlds. IMO, you're the same people that would've called singing gay a decade ago.

I thought the mods would delete this thread as it is clearly aimed at one user. While I rarely agree Katsucats, I don't see why it matters if he chooses to post his grades. Why would I care what a stranger puts in their profile? It is far more pathetic to start a thread designed to encourage a mass criticism or mean comments about a user you don't like.

I am yet to see you displaying your grades publicly on an animelist website. Does this mean your grades aren't good enough as well? Your logic is absolutely flawed and just in turn makes you a hypocrite.

It's obvious that the motivation someone would have to put their grade evaluations up on an animelist site would be to demonstrate to the group of the myanimelist community that they are not stupid. In any case, why might they need to demonstrate that? Obviously..because they are deemed to be stupid by the Myanimelist community.

Grades are a reflection of pursuance of academics. Learning can occur without judgment (i.e. grades), but insisting one without the other is like a pothead shunning school because his ideas are too deep.
