Yeah, well it's like saving up all your star-writer stickers you keep getting and putting them on your schoolbag. People are going to be impressed somewhat by the array of achievements but they're also going to think you're pretty smug with some need to stand out. You might as well wear a badge saying "I am better than you - suck on that". But this is common sense, OP, don't you think by making a big deal of it that you're giving people a chance to wind you up? People don't have to be making a serious statement by putting the grades up. Obviously Katsu's proud of those good grades, but it's also probably just trollbait for people dense enough to take it too seriously. |

MAL: thanks man you saved my life. -A kewl teenager puts his best memes on his profile that he spent months trying to come up with. MAL: LOL m8 8/8 And the list goes on. If someone puts them up, it merely tells you what kind of person they might be irl. MAL might be dedicated to anime but its a lot more than that. It doesn't involve anyone else its just look at how great I am or how much smarter i must be than most of mal. and beyond that as others have said, nobody actually cares. We can care about music, we don't care how smart someone is, it doesn't hold any ground when it comes to been likable or making friends. As I'm not familiar with foreign school systems, the grades and the classes don't translate to a lot for me. Maybe if somebody was from my own country then I would find it interesting to spot that we had chosen to study the same things. It is not bad to write about your grades just because it's not incredibly engaging for me though though... If I am on a person's 'about' page then I am there to learn about what is important to the person. Even if it takes up a lot of space just to say 'I am this good at school!': it teaches me that school is one of the things that matters to them. School mattering to someone isn't a terrible thing, and maybe it helps them to succeed if they feel like they need to uphold a standard for other people. So I don't mind too much. |

Depends. Different things hold different values. We don't ask questions considered impolite, such as what grades you got, the value of your car, or anything related to certain achievements such as wealth. Spouting these to strangers seems rather odd and pathetic, which is why some people revile it. We believe this things should remain private lest others feel a lack of confidence in their own SAT scores. |

In all honesty out of all the things on Mal profiles are not even worth talking about because everyone has one, everyone writes sh*t nobody reads and nobody cares about anything anyone else has to say anyway. |

The question this thread poses, in my opinion, is whether people are insecure for showing off their grades, or whether people are projecting their insecurities when they project non self evident values over them? At least for me, it shows who I would never associate with: when academics are pathetic in your value system, we're most likely going to be in 2 different worlds. IMO, you're the same people that would've called singing gay a decade ago. |

I thought the mods would delete this thread as it is clearly aimed at one user. While I rarely agree Katsucats, I don't see why it matters if he chooses to post his grades. Why would I care what a stranger puts in their profile? It is far more pathetic to start a thread designed to encourage a mass criticism or mean comments about a user you don't like. |
