Haha, I read this on Kotaku a few days ago. It's pathetic that anyone would go and do something like this. Would you not want to marry a living, breathing, loving human being opposed to a silly fictional game? I say this man need help with his life.

My curiosity lies here as well.Anyone who can shed some light on this, feel free. However, my thing has always been do whatever makes you happy while harming as few people as possible. So if this guy gets his rocks off with his digital waifu, then I say more power to him.

Oh man... the thread title was enough for a laugh...

Then decided to read more... and the follow-up describing this game. And yea... this Dating Sim thing... that's taking it a step too far.

D:!

By the way, I bet you his **** is small enough for the DS's audio jack. XD

Personally, I think a socially inept person of this magnitude with a gigantic dick would be much more ironic. I mean, a small one would just be cliche. But no one expects a guy like that to be packing big time, y'know?

I wonder what would've happened had he married an "underage" character like Sunny from Metal Gear Solid 4 instead. Is it still pedophilia if its just bits on a computer? just food for thought.

Which doesn't really matter. It shouldn't be illegal since it isn't child porn.

Why do people view it as pathetic to marry/love a fictional character? I never understood this.

It's not as if I will ever meet a real person who is anywhere near similar to Urumi anyway, leave me and mai waifu alone :c

I'll only say this once:

If you find a good girl, then you'd do anything for her. Granted, there are some pains associated with that kind of relationship, as all relationships with real women are difficult. But, the reward in the end outweighs that.

Since it is I who's answering, I can assure you that it is not just limited to the Christian perspective. All you have to do is any man, who's been in love before.

That's the number one reason why many of us (especially me) are infatuated with anime girls. In b4 the "which anime character would you marry" thread.

What. That has nothing to do with why being in love with something fictional is pathetic. That is why... I don't know, it is just a blind statement that love is coequivalent with absolute obsession.

Besides, your view of a woman as a passive object, who cannot do things and leave it to a man to do things, is in itself pathetic, Not to mention your heteronormitivity.

It's one thing to love a fictional character, but to actually MARRY it is another thing. Sure, love exists in all shapes and sizes, and I suppose if loving this fictional character made this guy happy that's fine for him. However, I do not believe he should have MARRIED the video game character. Marriage should take place only when two people love each other. The video game character is incapable of truly loving him because deep down it's pretty much just data and numbers, therefore this is pretty much a one-sided affair as someone before pointed out and therefore I believe it was not right for the parties to be bounded by marriage.

Maybe in the future, when technology has reached levels where artificial beings are capable of love, things like this would be acceptable. This article just reminded me about the anime Serial Experiments Lain, with the whole idea about technology advancing and blurring the line between reality. In this case, dating sims games becoming more real so that people actually believe and feel they are a real person.

To be fair, brinan, I think we should sympathise with the view that, so long as you don't harm anyone else, you can do whatever you damn well please without being condemned.

If someone, for whatever bizarre reason, wishes to marry a rock, a pillow, or any other inanimate object we care to name, then we are perfectly entitled to privately think that they are completely bonkers. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean they have lost their right to be tolerated and respected as an individual causing no harm to anyone. Hence, we shouldn't publicly brand them as "pathetic".

No, I don't.

Of course, I see no reason anyone should ever get married, but if they want to, I do not see it as pathetic. That word should be reserved for things which are, well, pathetic, not applied to things which happen to be rare and bizarre.

And this rhetorical question of yours really does not explain why on Earth it is pathetic to fancy something which just happens to not exist.
