I'm not an expert at judging music but I think the performance in this episode with the piano and violin was great. I always wanted to see this animated (so we can you know...hear the music) so I'm not disappointed here.

Obviously, there's some problems with the MC involving his past so we'll know more about that later. So far so good though for this pacing. Why are you sleeping Ryouta?! . Kaori looks very pretty on stage imo.

That performance was great. The amount of budget they put into it is pretty impressive. I guess that makes up for all the other still frame shots and lack of faces. 5/5 looking foward to more.

Pretty much he's in the supporting role to make his friend look good.

Tried to look up Kreutzer on Youtube to compare Kao's rendition of the piece to how it's normally played, and found that her performance in the anime matched that of this one:

Pretty well done in terms of animating the hand movements and choosing the right rendition to represent Kao-chan as a musician and character. Great episode.

Wow this show has been very impressive so far. It may be a romance with high schoolers but it feels pretty mature and its centered around classical music and the gorgeous color pallete and art style definitely fit. If it can keep it up for the next 20 episodes this will definitely be a solid show.

Yes! I finally hear that "Kreutzer" piece! Kaori-chan is really amazing! That pianist though, she will really quit because of that. (The pianist was been ignored)

So it's looks like Watari was not really interested to Kaori and he's been having 2 other girls too. So Kaori would just part of of it.

At the end it's definitely Kaori was actually waiting for Kousei, she's just making an excuse/cover. And It's really like Kousei was been setup by his friends.

The animation/design was seriously dropped though (Damn it! Please end Naruto already!) Anyway I can't wait for the next episode next week!

Kaori's performance showed constent signs of her energetic personality. The crowd was definitely charmed by her. It was pretty funny to watch one of the judges overreact as well.

I already like the musical element of this anime, but I'm still unsure about the drama and romance. We need a few more episodes which focus primarily on those aspects, in order to judge them.

Characterization seems fine, albeit a little too fluffy for my liking.

Displaying some of Kousei's glimpses of his mother's past scoldings, at the appropriate time, was a nice touch.

Her musical performance was beautiful. Normally I dislike classical music but that... just wow!

Hmmm, I think Kousei was about to have a panic attack since he's back to a place that brought up bad memories.

Ryouta was so enthralled by the music that he just had to fall asleep and dream about it.

Albeit being very annoying I can at least admit that Kaori looked really cute in that dress.

I must say that Kaori's performance was great and it funny how the lady playing the piano was struggling to keep up XD.

Too bad, Watari was about to redeem himself...

So Kousei is going to be Ryouta's substitute eh...

What an amazing performance! Different from everyone else's. Just listening really brought me into their world. Looks like she truly enjoys just playing in front of others than winning an award.

And so beautiful! Brings me to tears c;

That was a great episode. I don't know much about or have much of an interest in classical music, but Kaori's performance still caught me by surprise and had me captivated all the way through. Kousei saying that she made it her own was an excellent description.

Friend A got upgraded to Substitute.

The scene with Kousei lying down on the music sheets would make a nice background/wallpaper, if only quality was a bit more sharp and clean.

Hearing the opening again makes me so happy. ^.^

On the content of the episode, it seems pretty clear that Tsubaki bringing Kousei as "Friend A" is how she intended him to appear to Kaori. Since she'd think that Watari and Kaori would be together, she and Kousei would be the "spare pair". But now it doesn't look like that will happen because of the way Kousei doesn't even pay nearly as much attention to her as he does Kaori.

Heartbreak is probably incoming, but it's just another stop on the feel train.

Kaori performance was amazing.

Another great episode. Like how we left off right at the part of the first episode. Felt like I had left a bookmark, if that makes sense. Kousei not feeling being back in the world of music. Surprise people still knew him after he grew up. Kaori owned her performance. Even more amazing cause it was her own piece. Can't blame Kousei for catching feeling. She's like a perfect match for him,or a substitute. The best part of the episode was what they say. For some reason the dialogue is great in its own. Can't wait to see more.

5/5.

I'ts weird, I'm liking the direction with the musical side of the show, but I'm not sold on the direction everywhere else. It creates a really nice atmosphere at times, but as a whole I don't think it flows that well. Like the "it was like a movie" scene, they created this really uneasy atmosphere but nothing really justified it. I don't know what's going on with her arm shaking(Parkinson's?), but even if that was something serious and not just a show of how nervous she was after performing, I don't think the atmosphere there needed to be quite so uneasy.

I did like some of the dialogue though, like Watari's talk about how someone in love shines to you. That's probably the biggest indication that he likes Tsubaki.

Agreed. They do such a good job establishing a serious mood, but the transitioning is just off. The comedy bits aren't really funny either. The worst one was when she walked out to the stage, they literally threw in the two second comedy bit and transitioned right back to the captivating atmosphere. It's just out of place and unnecessary.

Crappy hollywood-tier episode. Kaori's take was pretty interesting, you could say it sounded a lot like Schubert (thats what I made out of it), but the animation didn't paid off in the end (the staff's gestures, crowd reaction and the performer's gestures... way too off from reality, but I guess thats what makes anime shine)

This anime is one of the most promosing ones I've seen in a while. Kaori still amazes me every minute. She's just the perfect character! Mysterious, energentic, lives her lifes to the fullest... The music is awesome and I think the main character is such an interesting guy. The way he describes everything just makes me shiver. XD
I just love how this anime succeeds without having 100 jokes and romance-moments.

Oh God, why is Arima such a bro? He should've just told her the truth, but I guess that goes against guy code, and the show has to drag the romance out as long as possible.

Another charming episode, I'm liking the mood and style. I particularly like Arima and listening to his inner thoughts

That's because she performed the same piece everybody did. If you're wondering what went wrong, its how she played it (her dynamic was different and played in a different tempo, but then you realize that nobody else played it 100% correct, you can notice that the others lose their tempo). Now that I relistened I noticed that what she played wasn't anything special, but when you get exposed to something performed soulessly and then someone comes and play it lively, you're inclined to think that she is on a complete different level.

Yeah m7. They played some fragments from the Violin Sonata no. 9 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__e7MRzk8Yg). This director sure likes Beethoven (in the first episode, Arima is playing Moonlight Sonata right after the opening)
