It's free, it's close, and it exposes you to some of the older good stuff. Seriously, the public library is the best place to go for anime this side of the internet. Of course, it helps that I have more library cards than credit cards in my wallet, and that I regularly visit five seperate ones, but still....

The only good thing my library has is Tokyo Godfathers, Patlabor 2, and a volume of Cowboy Bebop. :|

I usually just buy DVD's at Best Buy.

Is this a promotion?
Why would an individual go to a library if an individual has a working internet and a computer?

Why would I bother asking my parents for a ride to my ghetto library to possibly find something halfway decent, when I can just watch whatever one I want right now?

It's legal, free and dvd quality. My library's anime section at school is really weak, but the manga section is coming along nicely.

not me, because you have to pay to borrow DVDs from my local library.
And they have a very limited sellection. And a very limited amount of anime I want to watch has been licenced for the UK anyway.
My school libary doesn't have any anime/manga. Or any comic books for that matter.
Though they have picture books designed for babies. You know the ones with the different textures and shiny parts? And my school library is just for senior school....

I believe there is not any library in this country with anime inside.

We prefer to use the space to keep data from 500 years ago.

Then our countries have at least one thing in common. Oh, I don't know, there might be some Pokemon DVDs in the children's section, but I wouldn't know that. It's not as if I'd be finding HnK or Hellsing or such.

Our library's anime collection is thanks to the local anime club on campus, they went out and asked the school to import some, and some of the members donate to the library(At least they did something good, hate my schools anime club).

My library, last time I checked, had only manga. Their selection of manga has grown over the years.. but they still don't have many complete series and they are all in terrible condition.
They rent out DVDs but it costs, and they don't stock any anime except Ghibli, so there is no point in renting it out. Especially when those common dvds can be bought online for the cost of renting it out for a week.
I save my library visits for books only. :D

A library that has anime and manga is news to me. The only thing our piteous library has are old books, and most new books are donated by forced individuals. I get my anime from the internetz.

well, I want to the library for a few days a few month ago (My interent went down and I had to do my homework)
I was surpised to fiind quite a lot of manga. They had bleach/hikaru no go/dragon ball/etc/etc
I actually wanted to check out a few volumes of Hikaru no Go but I didn't own a library card so it would have been to much trouble.

As far as anime, I think the only ones I seen were pokemon/yu-gi-oh/digimon and other things that aired on 4kids

I can only get Studio Ghibli Stuff from the library closest to my university. Not that I mind too much. ;-)

However, I can get a pretty good selection of manga from the library back home. I've checked out all of the volumes of NANA I've read from there.

For all of you who say your library has a crappy selection -- you have checked the options for inter-library loans online, right? Right??

My library has mostly anime movies (series-wise it has volume 2 of Last Exile and a bunch of Yu Yu Hakusho), and I find it to be a great way to sit back and legally watch one without having to buy it. Better yet, I get to watch it on a big screen.

I saw Akira, Metropolis, Millennium Actress, Memories, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Steamboy, Perfect Blue, and Ghost in the Shell for the first time on library loans, and I checked out a couple Kurosawa movies while I was at it. Unfortunately, I've basically exhausted their collection, though - I've seen everything else they have already through other means.

I just started using it for manga as well as regular old books. I'm sort of getting sick of reading manga on the computer. I still DO with stuff that isn't getting brought over here but I REALLY want them in book form. They're really adding a lot manga at my library now though.

I never thought of using it for anime. I might do that at some point.

I just checked out a new manga today, actually :)

My school library doesn't have many series, but they're extensive in the ones they do have.

As for my city library, I used to get volumes out all the time but I found the wait period made me ansy, since they'd usually have to order it from another library in the district and that would take about a week.

I don't think my county library has anime, but it might be available through an Interlibrary Loan (my county borrows a book from another county in the same state). I know that my library has a good selection of manga, which is increased by using the aforementioned I.L.L.

This, and too bad D: I'd so want a library like that, finding Ghost in The Shell subbed would've probably been easier.

You can help fix the anime shortage at your library. I just got rid of half my collection by donating it to the library, and I wasn't just getting rid of the junk. It was time to slim down to just the series that I'm definitely going to re-watch over and over.

I found a few anime in my library, but it is usually mixed in with the children section even though they really don't belong there half the time. I have borrowed a few DVD's, but not many.
