I didn't. I never really thought that it would be an issue, but now that I think of it I had only seen upwards of 30 anime and it took almost a year to really remember them all. I would definitely not remember them all now.

I used Sticky Notes as well, well at least since say Fall 2011 when I was first introduced to seasonal anime.

Before that time though, I would never log anime at all. Well, I think anytime before college I was much more of a "causal" anime fan

Usually put them in notes on my iPod.

If I was still watching an anime, I'd put a certain emoji.

I had a notepad I'd just add things I wanted to watch and had watched.
Unfortunately I had watched a fair few anime by the time I decided to keep a list like that (I was only 12 and still rather dim), so I've forgotten the names of the few I watched back then. :(

I had only watched 40 - 50 series before joining MAL so I went solely off memory. I'm pretty sure I remembered all the series I had finished. I used to mainly watch stuff on Crunchyroll when I first got into anime so all I had to do was scroll through their selection and mark down the series I had watched.

Used to write them down on a notepad file. Randomly came across this site one day and thought it was pretty damn cool so I signed up. Definitely worth it for keeping track of the stuff I've watched and plan to watch and to chat to some genuinely interesting people. The idiots on the site don't really ruin the experience at all.

I didn't keep track at all. I only watched one thing at the time and no airing shows, so I didn't have to keep track of which episode I was at for what show.

Which is one of the reasons I still find stuff I watched between August and November last year (which is when I started watching anime, but before joining MAL) these days.

Yoshii Kiria took over as leader of Fairytale and rebuilt it and became one of Tsukunes formidable enemies but let's save that story for another time

Hehe, let me introduce him to you again, kid. This is Shuzen Issa (who is MIA during the final battle), who will become your 'trainer' starting today. You still have much to go if you want to become the headmaster.

Now that's a good question. Unfortunately I never kept track of the shows except through memory. In hindsight I should've made a note of them so that my list could be updated properly.

I remembered about half of the anime I watched as a kid. The rest I found through searching the anime rankings lists. I knew the anime I watched were probably highly rated since I only watched mainstream when I was a kid.
Life is basically like a soap bubble.
It rides on the wind, flying here and there,
…And before you realize it, pop! It’s gone.
When it’s about to disappear, you think
that you could’ve flown a bit higher.
But by the time, it’s already too late.

I didn't, I just watched anime very casually and there wasn't enough going on so my memory was more than enough to handle it.
I stored every anime I watched though so I'm sure my list is 100% complete.
I probably regret this post by now.

I didn't. I didn't really discuss anime much so i didn't really need a sheet to find things to recommend back then.

And my memory isn't so bad that i would watch something again because i forgot that i had already seen it.

I only had one series at a time when I was younger- I didn't know there were currently airing anime until 2012....

I had them all on a blogpost on this shitty social media page I had when I was 10-- and I only watched like 15 anime until 2012 anyway... (the number one being Naruto... ugh)

I didn't I just had to remember. The best way was to make backup's of what you have seen.
The other was to make a list.
In the end I had to go through all the anime listed on MAL to make my list, since I couldn't remember all the names, and was pretty confident I have seen enough to make going through all of them page by page worth it during my eventless nightshifts at a hotel.

Notepad on my desktop. Made a list of the ones I wanted to see, then once I finished it, i'd put "Complete" after it so I know I finished it. On going anime i've got an anime folder under my favorites that lists them all so I know what episode I left off at.

You don't need an IQ of 150 to remember the shows you watched.

OT: People who usually bloat about IQ are the ones below average. :)

lol This. I first added the one I remembered from the top of my head and then ground through the list... not in MAL, though, but in Mcanime.

I didn't watch much anime before I made an account on here, so there wasn't much to keep track of.
I'd just watch one series at a time and bookmark the last episode I had watched.

AniDB list is my main since 2006. Prior to 2006 I used excel to keep a track of my completed anime, ratings and storage info.
My MAL list is secondary, unfortunately it does not have so many features as anidb, thus is inferior.
