| I don't have much interest in the LN section this week but the top 10 sales for the manga figures pleases me. Now we need an anime adaptation of Shokugeki no Souma (shame a previous tease turned out to be a ruse) and I am a Hero. Oh and I hope Last Game climbs that chart a bit soon too. |

I keep a text archive of them here if you want to page through stuff to find a particular series quickly. Don't know if anybody's done the averages for all of them, if that's what you're after. |

Firstly, it takes quite a lot of time. Particularly with the number of other things I do with the set of figures, there's a chance that I would just give up if I were to try to do everything. This is made doubly true wiith all the past data that would have to be incorporated. Secondly, there is data missing. Stuff like MAL for whatever reason choosing to not report a certain series. This is more the case in the past than it is over the last couple of years. The bigger names (and thus bigger sellers) are more likely to have been reported, and thus the higher you set the limit the less likely the list is to become affected by this issue. Third, there is the sheer length that such a list would be. It would become a long scroll to get to the lower parts of the list. Fourth, there's the fact that beyond a certain point it depends increasingly on the day of the week the release comes out and the requirements to rank during that week, as much as actual sales - there's a big difference between something selling around 11k from 11 days to something selling the same amount from 3 days - this can be partially averted by reporting the number of days on the rankings, but this isn't always clear, would likely be ignored by most people despite its importance and can be outright misleading when series ship in some places a significant amount of time before the official release date. This issue is particularly problematic on older data from before the rankings were extended. I'd say that the fourth of these is the most significant, and starts to affect sales when you get below about the 40k mark, although it's not too significant until you get down below 25k. This fourth option is thus the main reason why the yearly rankings are set at 50k. As I collect into my yearly sales list all sales data above 20k in 2013, and all sales data above 10k this year, I could actually lower the requirements for the yearly rankings to 25k with virtually no additional work on my part (less than typing up this post anyway). In fact I might do something like that now - for this year at any rate. However, with the all time rankings, the main factors in play are the first issue and (in the longer term) the third one. I might lower the requirement to 75k or even 50k at some point, but that would take a lot of time, and I don't see it going lower than that. Anyway, time to update the stuff for this week. EDIT: done, and lowered the requirement to ≽30k for the 2014 yearly list. |

It could've had stock issues, as the KyoAni shop says the next delivery is July 11th (today): http://kyotoanimation.shop-pro.jp/?pid=75916246. But i'm quite sure the KyoAni shop doesn't report its sales to Oricon (correct me if I remembered wrongly). Possibly other retailers may have had stock issues as well. Threshold for bunko was 4,882, and books (non-bunko) was 5,684. So I guess it didn't sell enough to rank in Top 50 for both categories (i'm not sure which one it ranks in), for June 30~July 6. However, Oricon counts up to Top 500 bunko and books every week so if it meets the threshold for next week's list then you should be able to see how much it sold for June 30~July 6. |
