That was painful to watch. The animation was choppy and there were way too many stills. The backgrounds weren't very detailed either, save for the stars scene.

The story was a mess. I know it's only the first episode, but we don't even really know the main characters yet and we already have love confessions and deaths? I as a viewer don't have any reason to care. Establish the characters' personalities and depth before throwing plot-significant events at us. I feel like the childhood friend would have been better off killed at the beginning of the episode (as part of the premise) if they weren't going to develop her character first.

Eh. I won't totally discredit it yet, but as lucidbrandon says, this already has one foot in the garbage pile.

This first episode was...meh ok sorta good sorta bad.

I don't know. I agree with a lot of people that the animation was TERRIBLE. However, the characters seem likable and the plot is at least interesting. The one thing that confused me was that bus scene only to seem to go to something completely different in the next scene. This does have a "Steins;Gate/Madoka Magica" time reset element...although the one thing I'll say is the transition between scenes didn't seem very fluid. I understand that this show might be trying to create a sense of mystery and intrigue, but the way it was cut just seems like bad directing since it has me more confused for the sake of being confused rather than intrigued by what happened and want to know more.

I'll keep watching for a few more to see where this goes.

Uchihama Gakuen has seen an increase in enrollment in recent years and as a result, a new school building will be constructed. The story takes place during the final school festival in the old school. All the club leaders decide to give it their all to make this the best school festival. Sou is a member of the notorious astronomy club, which basically solves the various issues in the student council's place.
On one day, he stays in the school late at evening because he got slightly injured by the judo club and is healing his wounds in the infirmary. Suddenly, the building shakes. Shocked, he runs up the stairs to where the shaking seems to have centered, and there he encounters a mysterious naked girl, whom at first appears to know him. On the next day this girl, Yui, seeks out the astronomy club, expressing her desire to join.

That's the Visual Novel's description. Looks like Kaori's death was an asspull or taken from a latter part of the VN. I haven't read the VN but as for the anime, it could be one of the best this year or one of the worst.

not sure if i've been spoiled by all the BD anime i've been watching... but the artwork/animation is really un-2014 quality.

not a big fan of the VA for our male lead Sou either.

Airi kick scene and outro insert song best parts.

interest piqued but not dying for next episode.

oh hell no, why they gotta pull that kind of sht in the very first episode?

While I agree the animation seems off, kind of old school, I can't really hold that against the series as a whole. Even old school animation can still tell a good story, and that's where we'll get into the shaving of points.

The story in this *FIRST* episode was confusing, at first it was all slice of life-ish with the every day activities and the confession from the childhood friend and then BOOM! she's dead only to be perfect fine in the next scene. It lost me there, but I will keep watching for at least another two or three episodes to see what happens before I pass any judgement on dropping it or not. So, to sum this episode up in one word...

Mediocre.
Odds are I'm not going to find my way back to a thread after my first post, it happens on occasion but not often. So, if I say something that offends you and you feel the need to force your opinion on me because obviously everyone should have your opinion or none at all, feel free to post it in the thread that I'll probably never see again. However, if you are interested in intelligent discourse, feel free to message me.

Was this adapted from a VN? The dates flashed and I was like "oh I'm sure something tragic is going to happen and some kind of time travel/time slip will be involved."
"May those who accept their fate be granted happiness."

"May those who defy their fate be granted glory."

It took me 5 minutes to give up on this. Reason one being the terrible animation. Considering it's a primary part of an anime, you'd think they'd quality check it. I spent most of the 5 minutes trying to figure out if I was watching a full cgi or not. The quality is at that level, but it's lightly brushed over so it's not completely obvious.
The second is just VN adaptions are a dime a dozen. If it doesn't hook me quick, there are 11 more I can try that I might actually want to finish, or may be even connect with.

Well IDK what to say in here, but the ending caught me off guard for it. But then she appears at the ending scene, WTF.

The animation, and character designs felt bad and peculiar, so I hope they improve it in later episodes.

Though I'm pretty interested in the story like a time loop theme in here. Also the Silver or White Hair girl looked interesting at the end there.

I liked it but was rather disappointed since I was kind of hoping for this to be a hidden gem of sorts and although it's still early to say, the premise didn't give me that impression. I guess I'm mainly faulting the sub-par animation & the fact that Sou seems a bit too dense for the MC of a show that I'll want to take seriously. However, the later may be a temporary thing though so it's just a 1st glance complaint more than anything.

Oh well, even if it's not a hidden gem,I still want to expect a few good things from it.

I wonder what reputation does the VN have...

Gotta echo what some other people said. Kaori dying after getting hit by the truck then coming back in the next scene was a bit odd but I interpreted it as the cube having the ability to reverse time thus she's alive again. I just can't see them killing such an important character off so early though I'm sure other anime have done that before lol.

Other than this, the anime was pretty fun to watch imo. The characters had unique personalities, the kicks lol and a good atmosphere all around. I do wonder if Kaori will end up dying later on though I have a feeling that it was purposely done to show the cube and to let us know that both Kaori and Sou like each other.

Most of the episode I was just thinking "Ugh, another one of these animes", with cliche's out the wazoo, but obviously the end through that for a bit of a loop. I think the countless cliches are there just to lull you into a false sense of security so its a bigger deal when something surprising happens and it worked pretty well, and Kaori coming back in the preview is giving me some Higurashi vibes that have me interested.

Yeah, the ending pretty much saved this for me. I tought it would be a sure drop (terrible animation, meh drama) right until the last 5 min.
All in all I think they did a great job. I mean, they got me from a "sure drop after 3 episodes" to "excited for the next episode" in less than 3 minutes time... That is impressive, no matter how you look at it. It's only a shame that the animation is so bad.

ok so far we got a half-assed mc harem lead ( common) and a confession on the 1st episode followed by death. then something time-related happens with a cube glowing and the everybody is back to normal with a naked girl appearing out of thin air.

Come on now... admit it.... you know you want more of this at the moment...
Everybody has the right to have his own opinion on something. And you do have the right to disagree with them. But that doesnt give you the right to impose your opinion on others, even though you do have the right to think you are fucking awesome.

Also, the character design is so fucking awkward, I don't know it feels like heavy rotoscoping but hand drawn.

For those who are having difficulty with what happened: If you look at the French subtitle of the show you'll see it's "In search of a lost future" or something to that effect (Not totally fluent in French, but I can usually make it out). Combine that with the very brief scene at the start with the lab and what looked like human bodies in those fluid filled tubes, and you should get the idea that this is not just a school romance, there is probably something deeper underneath that will need to be uncovered as part of the action.

Second thing is that this is based on an adult visual novel with multiple routes. Those two factors lead to a couple of possible reasons why we saw Kaori die in the first episode and then had a reset:

1. They animated one of the bad ends and then went back to the beginning
2. A big part of the plot is trying to avoid the death of Kaori, and someone is manipulating time

Note that these are not mutually exclusive solutions. That having been cleared up, I'll have to agree that the animation wasn't all that good in this first episode. In some of the VN reviews I've seen they single out the quality of the artwork, so that is actually a big disappointment. Hopefully it will get better, or the rumoured uncensored version becomes available (haven't checked ATX schedule yet to confirm if it exists).

Thanks for the explanation. I was kinda confused after watching it.

I knew about the VN and saw some images of it a while ago and somehow it watching the anime gave me a strangely familiar feeling.
The characters seems interesting except for Kaori she came over like the typical Yamato Nadishiko to me which made her seem a bit boring.
I expected something would happen to her ones she confessed but i didn't expect it would happen this episode.

And that cliffhanger turned out even stranger that expected which makes me look forward to next episode.
I have a feeling i know what's going on but wether the next episode will confirm that is still a question.

Well that quickly took a dark turn

I blindly went in, knowing nothing about the synopsis and genre. It felt fun, by having Airi, Kenny and Hanamiya around the club and and they seem to love the role of being the disciplinary officers. Then the cliffhanger happened. Heaps of explaining to do, beginning with how or why Kaori is still alive, as I'm left feeling bewildered and confused

Seeing as this went from being a comedy/romance to mysterious/supernatural, I'm now psyched for the next episode.

wtf? Did she die? Why was she seen in what I guess was the preview for the next episode?

This is so confusing. Why do anime based on VN's always do weird stuff? I mean I kinda like the supernatural genre but it has to be done properly and VN's rarely manage to pull that off for some reason.

I hope they have some explanation for what is happening relatively soon because that end was just confusing.
