| I'm watching an interesting documentary about Tarkovsky that was also co-directed by him: Voyage in Time. You get to know Tarkovsky's views on art and it's really compelling. Tarkovsky didn't like Solaris, but he thought that he succeeded with Stalker because he got rid of all the signs of a genre work. Solaris on the other hand had world-building even though it was very slight, which he views as escapism :3 |

It's also beautifully shot and follows his journey throughout Italy while he was preparing to film Nostalghia, so you get more info on his thought processes in making that picture. He doesn't have a problem with popular art, only with commercial art, which excludes all genre fiction lmao I'm with you on that cinema and literature need genre fiction. Tarkovsky is too highbrow for us :u He comes across as a really chill dude, totally not what I was expecting. |

| I dunno I feel like SciFi is a good vehicle for examining the human condition particularly as humanity and machines are become more closely coupled than ever. Although I suppose that probably falls more under the umbrella of speculative fiction I guess. Additionally, would you consider Dick a genre fiction writer since much of his work is entrenched in SciFi? |
| TFW TARKOVSKY DIRECTED A HEMINGWAY ADAPTATION WHILE HE WAS A STUDENT It's obviously not going to be as good as the movies he made later down the line but I only have three student films and his final film (The Sacrifice) left before I've finished his entire body of work. |
| Just finished Yuyuyu, and yeah episode 11 was the best ep. I wish they could have more on that ending though. I liked it a lot. I'm actually relieved it isn't as dark as PMMM and followed its own path. IMO its the opposite of PMMM. Meduka had gr8 plot but lacking characters mostly, while Yuyuyu focused on the chars a lot but lacked in story imo Both have great visuals and OST tho. Definitely. |
