Now that you've mentioned it, I wonder, why he has even beeing drafted. Maybe it's ok if he trains shoolkids, but he shouldn't serve anymore. He is obviously unfit for it in his current condition.

That is... a damn good point yes.... I could stretch my brain a bit and say the kids are okay to be drafted but... a veteran with PTSD? I hope we get a scene with them talking to him and telling him he isn't allowed.

The odd thing about his PTSD is that it wasn't there in episode two when he went up against Trilram

Maybe that triggered the worsening? He, probably, could pilot a kat before, since he was an istructor.

And the main problem isn't even that he is not able to do anything, but that his actions can be dangerous.

It's called "bad writing" because Gen left the show and they need to show the teenagers 'awesome'. He also was fine to go against Trillram and organize a rescue mission on a ship and he never trembled or froze to face a Martian even outside his Kat.

Yeah...I don't even know haha It's reminding me of this season of SAO where Kirito suddenly remembers that he killed some people and that he should feel really bad about it...just the season of randomly remembering tiger horses I suppose.

Lol. The more we discuss this show, the more impressive plotholes we discover.

By the way, congrats - this thread is the longest in the Aldnoah section. "We did it!", I guess...

Well the PTSD angle I put it down as the fault of the new writer. Since it started after Urobutchi left

That's a huge fail then. PTSD is the most important Marito's feature, and the adult cast is not that numerous to forget basic things.
But maybe they reinvented his character, after the first episodes were already completed, for additional drama? If he could fight, they'd need to show the difference between experienced and inexperienced pilots and take some battletime away from Inaho.

So basically is this a good example of why you shouldn't switch writers in the midst of things? I mean I've never seen another anime where they did this ((and why did Gen get switched out anyways?)) so I have nothing to compare it to...but with the amount of things that changed, although it feels like a cop out, it's seeming like the switch is a good go-to for explaining a lot of the unexplained inconsistencies.

Can't explain how much more I'd enjoy this if I could just ignore the plot holes ((and if they weren't trying too hard to make it epic...waiting for them to start blasting "I SAY FIIIIIRREEEE" every couple of seconds)).

Urobuchi is a big man on campus these days, he was moved up in position so he doesn't actually have much time to write things anymore. Not that I necessarily think he is a fantastic writer or anything(That's just me I guess though), but switching writers 3 episodes in regardless does damage a show because the new writer most of the time will not have the same vision as the original. So it basically becomes a mess.

Edit: It's not even really the new writers fault per say. 3 episode isn't enough to give a new writer a good idea of where the story is going. Urobuchi didn't really set up anything, he just blew up a city, introduced evil Martians, introduced characters with no characterization really and showed that they defeat the enemy with science... and that... is all he had to go on.

This is a fair point but I'd find it kind of hard to believe that Urobuchi would write his three episodes ((along with being credited as the creator of the show)) and then not have at least some say in how it goes from there. Considering the general consensus is more positive than not I doubt this will be anywhere near a flop that could hurt his career ((after PPMM, Psycho-Pass, and Fate/Zero it'd take something huge to do that...)) but it's still a risk and a detriment to the show itself if he just completely left every part of the process to someone else.

Agreed. It's so painful to see too. He was my favorite character before this kicked.

This series has made incredible progress given the unfortunate limitation of 12 episodes. Sasuga all these well-known individuals on the staff, the name wasn't just a hype magnet. The overall presentation and substance are a different level from other tekitou seasonal anime.

Are you SURE about that? Because most of the mech-fans here are saying this is standard mecha.

Though I have been enjoying this with much more ease than say, Valvrave

Well that's the thing. I'm not a mech fan. In fact, I'm an anti-mech person, as the formula usually goes:
Enjoyment = Characters + Story + Music - Mech , each argument given proper (+,-) signs as appropriate.

The mechs are really just a means to an end, with the latter focusing on the turmoil and ordeals facing the main cast. To that regard, I'm in favor with how Inaho can overcome blatantly disadvantages through critical thinking and precise response. If I had to say I'm a fan of anything, I'm guess a fan of good characters. I don't know really. I call it as I see it, without comparing to other works.

Plus, who doesn't enjoy a catchy ED sung in three different languages.

Flying rocket fists is a reference to 70s giant robot shows where all the robots had to have those (for the toy sales) no matter how useless they were on the show!

Nice to see some effort to make the rocket fists look dangerous.

Also, the design of the Martian Kat's face and head was a reference to the "female" robot from Mazinger Z, Aphrodite:

Slaine always trying to defend his princess and the love of his life for whatever reason. Inaho trying to defend/save the human race by not letting anyone interfere. Not even Slaine who's only trying to protect the only innocent person of this whole affair. I respect and root for them both as they are both fighting for something worth protecting. I love this anime so much. I hope it doesn't dissappoint me.

I like how they conveniently found a secret base with a battleship and possibly a new mech.
I loved the way the battle ended though, ramming the battleship into the mech :)

Inaho and Slaine working together is just beyond awesome! Orange and Bat! (^_^)
Awesome OST too!

But Femieanne almost won that fight.
Good thing Princess Asseylum powered up a Vers Battleship.
Aw yeah, Rayet got the killing blow after the battleship rammed Femieanne's Kataphrakt.

Oh damn, Inaho shot down Slaine after working together.
Well Slaine did start demanding things and Inaho has all the right to be suspicious.

An unexpected reaction from Inaho,
which was actually the right thing to do,
but most of the MCs don't do so. Hence,
that was pretty impressive. Thumbs up!

Episode interesting, the mysteries of the much talked about are revealed in part, in light of what the plot becomes intriguing.
Unfortunately, the narrative is disappointing if we talk about the mecha Martians, the clash but is usable, even the infamy of Nao is remarkable, proving a little naive with respect to Slaine! XD
OST ending and pleasant to listen to and suited to the circumstances.

It seems some kind of energy source tech with special properties. Like we have nuclear energy etc. At least that is how it seems to me.

Well thet teamwork was pretty cool, along with the names "Bat" and "Orange" lol. The OST was enjoyable, fitting to the fighting scene. Inaho's sudden declaration of Slain being his enemy made me think this guy is the real deal, and not like the majority of Mecha's MCs I've watched.

The end of this ep was so idiotic. Slaine is more loyal towards the princess than anyone else and that should've been obvious even to Inaho. There was no need to rebel. Now they propably become rivals and near the end of the show they become allies again. I hope I'm wrong.

I get why Inaho wouldn't trust Slaine. He had no way of knowing Slaine was a Terran, let alone his association with the princess. What bugs me is WHY DID SLAINE NOT REVEAL HIS INTENTIONS? SERIOUSLY, you were THIS close to being teammates and there's no one amongst the Martians that Slaine can trust!

Contrived excuse to have them enemies is contrived.
