shina_luna said: Wanting to watch some good mystery anime. Preferrably one, which makes you guess and wonder about if or not supernatural things are occuring. The Manga of "A Lollypop and a Bullet" did this really good. Aside that Shiki and Another (Manga more) did such a guess play, too. In Shiki like when natsuno gets the creeps with his illusions of a scary Megumi hunting him down or in Another as in guessing whether or not Misaki is a ghost or not. I am more after the atmophere, that comes out of hints everywhere indicating both sides, and the insecurity characters have out of that. Not so much interested in solving somewhat episodic supernatural cases in a detective style, through. (As like in Ghost Hunt.) ... through probably that is getting too special. Any other good mystery title with a bit of a creepy feeling (but not so much of a splatter-gore-screamish-the ring-like Horror) would do too, I guess. Sounds to me like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni fits your description perfectly. I don't want to even describe how if it fits just so I don't give anything away. |

Might also try Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Haven't watched it, but read half of the manga(got to find some time to read the rest), so it might be nice mystery to watch. |

err, that was already propoesed in a prior search query, but I seriously have some issues with Higurashi. @___@" (And Umineko probably, too, since it's just as bloody...) shina_luna said: ziggyopolous said: @shina_luna: regarding the time request: you can give Higurashi no Naku Koro ni a shot. It deals with a recurring time lapse. It is a horror/psychological/thriller with lots of gore (though a censored version is available). Though to be clear, the time lapse plays a much bigger role in the sequel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. It is a really great show if you can get past the character designs. I know about that and the general idea does sound like what I want to find, but the character designs aren't even that much the problem but the splatter parts. I unfortunately ran into some trauma-inducing amv compilation of the probably most gruesome and craziest moments of the show, and I am certain, I don't ever want to see them again... |

Hmm, well I know there is a censored version as well, but I don't know what that actually cuts out. Does anyone else know? And if it's any consolation, it is 26 episodes long, or like 10 hours worth, but a compilation packs all the 5 or 10 minutes of gruesome stuff together. But in reality, it really focuses on the mystery and the creepiness of characters who are so cute and friendly and funny, but then regularly show glimpses of insanity, like passive-aggressive stuff and scary looks, and then they act like nothing happened and you wonder if you were just imagining things. The gore comes in mostly at the arc climaxes. But I guess it comes down to your own sensitivity to that stuff. |

Hey, I'm looking for an anime with a chivalrous guy. A gentleman if you will...but not in a shoujo. Sven from Black Cat is a pretty good example. Goku is another good one. Now before you get all exited, let me define what chivalry is and is not. A chivalrous man is a pacifist by nature. He is not one who fights due to wrongs done unto him. However, he will not stand for wrongs done to others and will break his pacifistic tendencies for the purpose of protecting another or their property. He excels in fighting for this purpose, but his skills are not limited to simply fighting, as that is not his preferred method of diplomacy. A chivalrous man will fight evil, but only if there is no other way. A chivalrous man is NOT someone who kills a woman's husband, then turns around and wallows in self-gratification as he says something stupid like "I don't fight women"...chivalry is extended to males and females alike, be they men, beasts, or plants. Anything less is nothing more than a boy's desperate attempt to prove he is a man. so...any takers? Take your time as I probably won't be watching it any time soon. Also, if you have any manga, recommend that as well, but please keep it around 10 volumes or less (a little over is ok). And don't shy away from my ptw either, I've no clue what lives in there anymore... |

I'd say your man is Captain Tylor from Irresponisble Captain Tylor, a peaceful guy who forgives even his enemies, and who routinely manages to be diplomatic through sheer force of his charm and unshakeable (naive) faith in others. Possibly also Nanashi from Sword of the Stranger, a man who has sworn to never unsheath his sword. The problem is that once this genie is forced to come out of the bottle, the question is no longer posed to him throughout the movie, so it's just action without opportunity for pacifist options. |

I'm thinking about Haku from Utawarerumono, even though their is war and fighting involved he leads a army with friends to peace while trying to find his lost memories in the process. Baron from Neko no Ongaeshi althought the theme is kinda shoujo it's just a great movie all and all. Must like cats to watch.... Arita from Accel World is someone I wanna marry... (I digress) It's a great story with Arita helping the one he loves to achieve her dream. That's all I can think of at the moment that I can remember without having to rewatch xD |

Around the world with willy fog would fit 100%. Same for Anime/Wao wao sanjushi. Whether it is an recommendable anime beyond pre-juvenile age can be marked with a question mark, through... Perhaps Angel Heart? Through a bit ambiguous. Katekyo Hitman Reborn pehaps somewhat, too. (There are at least two guys who can only do stuff, if for others, even while being beaten up themselves, especially the protagonist is somewhat extreme on that...), Break Blade probably, too. Les Miserables may fit, too. But speaking of chilvary, there is Chevalier d'eon, with chivalry practically in its title aready. One of my favorite titels btw and thus very recommended. ^^ |

@Valkeakoski From what you've mentioned, I've put together of a list of some anime that are similar, I will mark which anime reminded me of it. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou(Nichijou) Golgo 13(Black Jack) One Outs(Black Jack) Natsume Yujinchou(Mushishi) Cross Game Mokke(Mushishi) Kamichu(Mushishi) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood(One Piece) Hajime no Ippo(One Piece) Initial D(One Piece) Gintama(Nichijou) And it looks like you're almost to the middle of One Piece. It's going to get good, it's my favorite series. |

@Tim: I'll definitely be checking those two out. I haven't watched an older show in quite some time, hopefully I can manage it. @Azixe: Utawarerumono seems right on the money. I won't be watching Accel World for personal reasons. Neko no Ongaeshi seems almost as nuts as Bobobo-Bo bo-Bobo from that description...I'll consider it. @shina: Angel Heart is turning me off...I think I'd be slamming my head against the screen the whole time I watch it wonder how the hell she managed to find a a donor for a heart...how she hasn't died of a flu yet...and how the dude who gave her her heart is still alive! Katekyo Hitman Reborn is a bit too long for my taste, sorry, I should have mentioned that. Oh, I've been meaning to watch Break Blade, I never realized it had a chivalrous guy though. Les Miserables looks perfect, just the kind of man I was looking for. No way...there's an anime about Chevalier d'eon?! Wait...he's not going to gender-bend is he? @Konik: Fate/stay night seems good, I'm supposed to watch the prequel second I take it? Once again, the character profiles suck here. It's the younger brother who is chivalrous in Shikabane HimeI take it? Alright, I've seen too many people obsessing over Slayers to say no. And Gourry seems like quite the man. @Cratex: Cool... To all, thank you. I really appreciate your help |

@ziggyopolous Well the girl in Angel Heart didn't find it, it was found and well yeah. Consider it some plot magic, at least there is some alibi explanation, why she doesn't have aftereffects, unlike something like the area no Kishi anime... But that parts is practically entirely irrelevant most of the time. Else, you could try out the prequel city hunter, through I ready only 10 volumes of the manga and the protagonist ist mindbloggingly perverted imo. As to Chevalier and gender-bend... yes, no... yes? anyway, it's history twisted with fantasy, the ghost of his sister is tuck in him after all, so yeah, there is some crossdressing, but not too much. You might also want to check out Serei no Moribito, but that is mainly a woman. (Through she had a master, who may fit in well.) Oh and Kenshin does fit a lot, too. Through the TV series is pretty average and the last 30 eps can be scrapped due to being total fillers. I highly recommend Tsuiokuhen, through. Reborn would have fit quite well. But I can understand that, especially since the first 19eps/7 volumes are somewhat really stupid and boring. But that's one of these titles which all of sudden got to have a big turn for the better. You might check out some more of these battle shonen types. These "you kindness will kill you one day" protagonists often have quite a handful of these traits. Shaman King for instance is kind of like that, too. edit: oh, there is also Heroic Age. Both male and female rpotagonist should fit well |

@Ziggyopulos: Both main heroes of Fate/Stay Night and Shikabane Hime act in similar way. They tend to protect the main heroenes that are the ones supposed to fight. For the results, You've got to watch it. As for watching or not watching the preqel. Fate/Zero was made recently, and is a bit better, but if You watch Fate/Zero first you'll get tons of spoilers for Fate/Stay Night(especialy about characters from that show up in both series and are only introduced in F/Z but are the main heroes of F/SN), whereas watching F/SN first doesn't spoil F/Z that much(the only spoiler from F/SN about F/Z is the outcome of F/Z, yet it doesn't really matter, since the way to achive it in F/Z is great to watch). You can also try watching One Piece for Sanji. XD He is the type that would rather die, then hurt a woman, but I don't think You'd like his character. :P And if You're bored You can try Zetman. :P |

i started nodame cantabile and my expectations were really high cause it's in top 50 in MAL anime list. Unfortunally i don't like it as much... especially the main girl who acts kind of stupidly. But of course it's hard to express what i really look for. Now i can add to the previous, that comedy is ok as long as it's not overtaking the plot. The guy should probably be a badass and the girl shouldn't be a baka. I wonder if there even exists such a story :) But thanks for the recommendations. I'll watch the rest of them too. |

Nodame develops. She will keep some of her stupid acts, as the comedy stays, but not as mindblowing as in the beginning. The romance in that series is imo one of her own kind. (Oh and Chiaki is imo pretty badass. *cough*) Aside that main couple, there are also some side character forming couples, perhaps you like them more. But they get more spotlight after the first half season. If you don't like Nodame, you might try out honey and clover. kind of similiar in points of development. |

@kiizuke: You might enjoy Amagami SS. It consists of 6 separate stories in separate dimensions. Each has 1 female per male (no harems of polygons). 4 episodes each, so they skip most of the indecisive stuff and hit the romance. If you want to see romances develop beyond first kisses, you'll like this. |

I also like beautiful characters. i do like sweet stuff. No offense to Cratex, but I'd have to recommend against Ai Yori Aoshi. I'm only going but what I read in the manga, but the guy is your typical pathetic pushover, the girl is a shy, submissive, super-purehearted goody-two-shoes, and it's silly comedy and harem. I see you're watching Clannad. I think that first season is like a high school comedy more than anything else (even though it contains romance). But the 2nd season is totally different, and a bit closer to what you're looking for (though it's a good anime even if you're not looking for anything specific). It takes place after graduation and focuses almost exclusively on the romantic couple and family. It's a tearjerker though, and a more serious story than most romances. I'd recommend you watch Toradora which is one of the top romances around. I think you'll like the characters a lot. No stupid characters. When you say you prefer the guy be a badass and the girl be not stupid, you'll be getting that here, as each of the 5 main characters are pretty badass in their own ways, very strong personalities. Also, the story develops differently than most romances, since it's not just spending the whole time in a stagnant relationship or spending the whole time winning the love interest over. It is comedy as well, but it doesn't overshadow the romance at all. I'd say it's part of the romantic development and makes the characters more endearing/cuter, if anything. I'd also recommend ef - a tale of memories. It's 2 different romance stories being told at once. One is a love triangle, though. But they have great development and the way it is presented is amazing. It's a cinematic masterpiece, emotional, and believable. |

Timofmars said: (chuckle) I DID say "might work" - even I'm not convinced. However, the anime versions of the two main characters are a little different from the manga I think. In particular, even though several girls develop crushes on the guy (Kaoru Hanabishi), he never lets them get in the way or distract him - he knows who he likes and never changes that. (and, also, in Kaoru's case it's reasonable for the girls to be attracted to him because of his good traits - at least in the anime, unlike many harem shows where you wonder what happened to the girls' common sense). On the other hand, while I also really like Toradora and ef - a tale of memories, for exactly the reasons you state, they didn't sound like what he was looking for because of the somewhat tangled relationships and commitments that are pushed off until near the end. |

@Konik Oh well, you have a bit of a point there... Another query from me~ Anybody who has read/seen the TYL-Arc from Katekyo Hitman Reborn? You know, these fights from the adult versions of the protagonists and then the younger versions themselves fighting in a manly bishie eyecandy manner in black suits? So well, in short, I look for eyecandy action in black suits. *cough* Best of all would be like TYL-Hibari from Reborn (that one is just so very eyecandy, despite me disliking his younger version somewhat). Presently there is Psycho Pass (Shinya seriously looks like he could be TYL-Hibari's big brother) and I think there was also this arcana famiglia, judging from some AMV scenes. (Through I head only bad things about that.) Any other ideas on that? Manga would be fine too, as long as they are somewhat eyecandy. Oh and, if anybody knows some other character as badass-serious-strong-adult-like-eyecandy like TYL-Hibari (note: not the younger version), while still having sweet sides, even without a suit will do. You may enjoy Triniti Blood for Abel Nightroad. He comes across as a sometimes clumsy, but goodnatured fellow. But that's before you see him fight... the following do not wear black suites often (or at all) I believe Kaze no Stigma is in you PTW. Kazuma Yagami would be the subject here. Chrome Shelled Regios is in a post-apocalyptic world where it's kill, be killed, or hide behind the dude that does. Layfon Wolfstein Alseif kills, though he'd prefer not to. Trigun is in a mix of a futuristic and wild, wild west world. Vash the Stampede would like nothing else than to have the wold be full of love and peace (as he says on multiple occasions), but there will always be struggle, and while he never stops being a good guy, he knows a wild boar won't stop with words alone. |

^^" I have read Kamisama Hajimemashite until vol. 3. He is pretty far from how TYL-Hibari ist like. =X (I mean, Tomoe can be really childish, TYL-Hibari is not at all.) The only thing he has may, he has a certain (somewhat strange?) strong attachment to a certain place (a middle school, lol) It's kind of amibigous which side he is on, but at his core good natured. He helps out, when needed, aside that he stays disattached to the rest of the cast. Kind of likes fighting and shines there with his badass-ness, but avoids totally uncessary sights, either, despite picking in on some fights sometimes. And, well, he is just badass and cool, whether he is fighting or not. ^^" (But I really don't like the young version, who aooears much more arrogant imo. Too bad, the adult version was just a temprary appearance. ;_; ) EDIT: @ziggy I had watche one or so episodes of trinity blood, and no, that Abel Nightroad is nothing like what I am searching. ^^; No idea about the Kaze no Stigma guy, judgin from the character bio rather not, but will check that out I guess. That Trigun guy ist definitely not either (judging by the manga volume I read long ago.) That Chrome Shelled Regios guy doesn't look much like that either... =X But may as well check it out too, perhaps. |

I don't really think, he will be, he looks like the one who is always or at least the majority of time gumpy and easily aggravated with probably some personality issues grounded on some inferiority complex. TYL-Hibari is like always composed, since he he is self-conscious and knows well about himself, thrugh it's not like he is bound to his own limits, but he doesn't take unnessasary risks, just because of his ego. Something like that. Well, adult-componsed-like. Or so. |

It's hard to find any other anime in the same style, since Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Psycho-Pass are the only anime in which the creator of Katekyo Hitman Reborn was involved, and her style is quite uniqe for Shounen type manga/anime. You've mentioned Arcana Famiglia, and it is eyecandy, maybe You'll like it, since it's action shoujo. |

I don't read shoujo manga, so I don't know whether there are any with similiar style, or not, yet from the ones I've read/looked into, it would be hard to find action shounen with similar style. Hers is quite unique, especialy since she's one of few female shounen authors. Her bishounen art style suits shoujo more than shounen, and Psycho-Pass, in which she's the character creator, is the only anime I've seen with the same style as Hitman Reborn. The only other female manga author who creates shounen manga/anime that I know about is the author of Code;Breaker, so You might look into that, since the art style is also a bit more femine, than the usual shounen style. About Arcana Famiglia, the bad things are probably because people who tried watching it, were thinkig it will be an action sounen, but it's shoujo romance with a bit of action, thus the bad coments. Or maybe it was really bad. I've dropped it after second episode, so can't really tell. Because You've watched so many things that it's hard do find anything for You, or You look for things that usualy don't exist. :P |

Or maybe it was really bad. I've dropped it after second episode, so can't really tell. I found it was "okay" - nothing to get excited about. More than anything else, the last couple of episodes didn't work for me. |

You will hardly find any shoujo manga with action. (Unless perhaps Magical Girl like Sailor Moon and Magi Knight Rayearth and finding some somewhat mature in that subset is really rare or sports shoujo, which are pretty seldom, too.) If there are, please tell me one I still don't know about? Would be quite interested in that too. There are actually quite a handful of female Shounen authors...? From the jump titles, there is the Hoshino (Dgrayman), Katou (Ao no Exorcist), Xia Da (Chouka Kou/Chang ge xing, Sare mo shiranai, through she is Chinese and publishes in Japan under seinen), Clamp (just about any type), Mochizuki (Pandora Hearts), Toboso (Kuro Shitsuji), Kamatani (Nabari no Ou (shounen), Shounen Note (seinen)), Hotta (Kimi to Boku), .... Through, yes, they are a minority opposed to the rest of the masses. In some cases the gender is even not really known. and it's not like males are unable to create some badass-Bishies. Shin Angyo Onshi has quite some coolish protagonist (through he lacked some eyecandy). And Defense Devil from the same authors is full of clichéd bishies for both gender audiences. (Through the content is so cheap and random, it borders to pain.) I heard about arcana it was the typical trying to stuff too much into too less space syndrom, and a bad one at that. =X Hm. I have seen profiles with far more entries than mine.... Should I try some wildcard? Tell me any good titles I don't know yet, then? ^^" |

All of those You've mentioned I didn't read or try to read. :P I know that there are some male authors who also make bishonen characters. I'm reading Witch Hunter(it is a manhwa, but who cares). I've also seen those with more entries. Two friends of mine have over 1000 watched so the 760 watched is not that much. :P As for good titles might try: Black Lagoon Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade Slayers The Legend of Black Heaven Trigun for something else than usual: Dead Leaves Trava Mind Game |

Hahaha, apologies miss. But you are far my senior in anime. Anyways, a really good show you haven't watched and hasn't been recommended to you so far (to my knowledge) would be... Samurai 7, based on a groundbreaking post WWII Japanese novel (tragedy) meant to try and lift Japan back up after it's crushing defeat. The show does a tremendous job on adapting the message. |

It's like trying to buy a present for somebody who already has everything you can think they might want. shina_luna said: Should I try some wildcard? Aria the Animation Azumanga Daioh Kamisama Hajimemashita (currently airing) Nichijou Princess Resurrection Sketchbook: Full Color's Slayers Working!! (good, but I thought the second season even better) Campione!: Matsurowanu Kamigami to Kamigoroshi no Maou (silly, but if you pinch your nose it's fun to watch) ziggyopolous said: The original Kurosawa film (made in 1954) is my favorite movie. all titles that are kind of turning me away spontaniously. wow. XD Azumanga is definitlely nothing for me, as I already dislike Yotsuba. Nichijou I didn't even stand 20 seconds, despite the classix music-ish soundtrack, from Slayers I read the Manga and I like neither setting nor characters, princess ressurection I barely stand the free excerpts of the manga release, Working dropped after half an episode, Jin Ro seems to be pretty bloody judging by some amv scenes, (...) @Konik You might want to try it out? They are all good titles. (Save Nabari, it has a pretty weak ending, and abyssal anime-only ending and the pandora heatrs anime production values are bad, too.) The Black Butler Anime season 2 ist one of the biggest nonsensical trolls I have ever seen. lol btw. started Kaze no Stigma. And no, he is not like TYL-Hibari at all. The expected inferiority complex is even stronger than I initially expected. He probably has some more bad-childhood induced personality issues. =X At least he is cynical. Sarcasm is always good~ |
