No matter how many times I watch this episode no match how much I appreciate direction and choreography of this episode fabulous camera angles and ost still I disliked this episode . Maybe protagonist had good intention but misunderstood by other this type of episode I had watch many in regional shows, international shows and also in anime. And this is the only kaguya Sama anime episode I dislike.Though I am not much sad I can still appreciate A1 studio .By giving a fabulous season without pacing issue , production issue within very short period of time.I still little sad though this is the only 90+ rating episode I dislike
The most dangerous irony is, people are angry with others because of their own incompetence

This might be one of the best episodes of the series so far. There was such a great story to it, and I guess Ishigami actually could be one of those people that say they've been through a lot and really mean it. I hope he becomes friends with the people on the Cheerleading Team and more.

Also, Shirogane is not to be forgotten here as he's the one who picked up Ishigami from the dirt, and Kaguya and Chika also deserve respect for investigating the whole story and not just believing the rumours like everyone else.

One more thing: That Ogino guy is a piece of crap that deserves no rights, but Otomo is pretty toxic too. I mean, the fact that she still holds a grudge against Ishigami and wants him to be miserable forever instead of talking things like grown-ups is such a cowardly and childish act of 'revenge'.

Oh, by the way, this episode also reflects how a lot of schools don't really care about their students' mental health. I don't know if the author wrote it with the intention of publicly criticising that, but, if he did, he succeeded.

I feel like I'm one of the few who didn't like this episode, it was really jarring to go all season with an upbeat comedy to this melodramatic episode, it felt really out of place.

Not a bad episode by itself, but in the context of the whole show pretty disappointing overall.
Wow can't beleive there are people that actually make sense. Thank God I am not alone.

These Japanese schools literally go through everything heh? Here we are stuck in online classes for years and majority don't even want any events to happen, except maybe offline classes.

Man I wish if this was a pure comedy. But romcom starting to kick in. The next season's will have less comedy and more drama.

***Me wiping all my tears***

Back before I said episode 3 was the best this season, I had my own reasons for that but it's like they say "you never know what'll happen next". This episode, I really and I mean really frikin loved it!!! Even using words or phrases like "this episode was awesome" or "what an excellent episode this is", still doesn't feel enough to express how much I actually enjoyed watching this episode. I'm the kinda guy for whom even the most trivial things have an impact on me, so you bet this episode had a huge impact on me.

Ever since the beginning of the anime, I'd really taken a liking to Ishigami's character, he was funny, depressing and what not? I immediately put him into my list of favorite characters, with each episode I understood him better but this episode changed my whole perspective towards Ishigami, this episode showed us who the real Ishigami was.....he had a terrible time at junior high because of that one incident where he tried to stand up for something right and of course he could've acted in a better way but still he was treated like trash with no one even trying to believe his side of the story ;-; (It really hurts)
As few months pass by that particular incident becomes like a scar on him, like chains and shackles that are holding him back, It was around this time that Miyuki and the student council(Kaguya and Chika) come into the picture and change Ishigami's life, If Ishigami had any friend who was actually a friend it would definitely be Miyuki, I seriously love this part :
Ishigami eventually got friends, people whom he could trust, everything was going well until a certain someone decided to appear at the sports festival. Yes I'm talking about Kyoko Otomo, seeing her Ishigami once again recalls his past and goes into a slump but hey once again Miyuki cheers him up(Fr I love these two!!) . After that I was kinda furious when Kyoko started hurling insults at Ishigami and yeah we all get that satisfying comeback
When I think about it, it's really kinda complicated, yes I do hate both Kyoko and her boyfriend whatever the dude's name is, but still I can't blame Kyoko for hating Ishigami since she still doesn't know the truth about what actually happened. And I really want her to know the truth but it's like Kaguya said "She's blissfully ignorant" "That smile of hers is what Ishigami protected". It's sad that she doesn't know the truth but hey if that's how the story is than I totally accept it......One thing's for certain tho Ishigami broke free of those chains and shackles that held him back and can now move forward and live his live to the fullest!!!!

A 10/10 episode

Incredible episode , really lifted Ishigami's character and made him get amazing development during single episode and that ''Go to hell dumbass'' scene was just cherry on top.

I think this is peak of the show so far and one of the most memorable anime episodes that I've seen in recent memory, sports arc was so short yet such a great expierence in general

This episode elevated my overall rating for this series and turned the show dark quickly by showing us the backstory of Ishigami. I am surprised how different Ishigami looked in his middle school days but depression and guilt hit him really badly. Easily the best episode of Love is War for me.
A 10/10 Episode, also Shirogane was the real GOAT of this ep.

An amazing episode, just like the manga's.
Been so long since I read this part of the manga, and been more than 18 months since I halted my progress on S2, since GJM was taking so long to release, but was clearly one of the finest moments of the series thus far.

It always warms my heart when I see that scene where Ishigami finally starts to really look into the people around him, they faces no longer blank, such a powerful moment!

It's usually the last episode of the season that has the most replies in the discussion thread, by a landslide- not the case here. Episode 11 literally has nearly TWICE as many replies as episode 12, and of course an explanation is not needed.

Been reading some of the posts here, and a recurring point is that while this episode certainly did it justice, the manga still must be read for some rather impactful scenes that unfortunately had to be omitted. Perhaps we will revisit what is a rather pivotal event in S3, with those missing scenes included. Fingers crossed!

I'm going to read this part in the manga, but in a bit, not right now. Still kind of shook.

Isn’t it a BIT unrealistic for some 13 year old dude to be making a sex tape recording with his girlfriend and then banging other chicks behind her back by ordering a hotel room? Like… how does he have that much money, and doesn’t this kind of drama start a bit.. later? When I was 13 and 14 hardly anyone in my school was even dating lol. Japan be wild. Or it’s just overly dramatic anime logic

It was an OK episode for me. I dunno, maybe they introduced his past way to fast.

I can't help to draw a parallel with Sket Dance Switch character and his "Swicth-off" arc. It was way better.

I've watched this episode before but I have never made a post on it, and I think that it's a shame since this episode is AMAZING!!!

I'm rewatching all of Kaguya-sama right now for season 3's finale and I have gotta say for this episode I think it's one of the best in this whole series. You can really feel what Ishigami is feeling through his backstory and you end up feeling bad for the guy. When he was congratulated by his fellow teammates later in the episode I just cried genuine tears since you can see his happiness. You can feel happiness when Shirogane steps into his room and helps him, and honestly, I think their friendship is one of my favorite relationships in this entire show. I just want Ishigami to be happy that is all.

Overall 100000/10 This episode is probably one of my favorite anime episodes of all time.

This is the best episode of the entire anime! The execution was perfect. The director did a brilliant move by skipping some panels like the Student Council investigation. Some people don't like that those panels were skipped, but this was needed in order to maintain the emotioal momentum of the viewer. Just imagine putting those panels after Shirogane entered Ishigami's room. That would certainly shift the focus of the viewers into the other characters (Iino, Kaguya, Chika, the director). Thus the emotions for the scene will decrease. They did well by removing those manga panels so that the viewers will keep focusing on Ishigami's feelings until it reaches the climax, which is Ishigami's race.

Sometimes anime adaptations do not need to adapt every single detail of the manga. By adding or removing scenes, an anime may become a better presentation for the watcher's experience. This is one good example, and the scene of Ishigami meeting Miyuki was flawless, full of emotions.

Ishigami's character growth is definitely on my top 10 character developments.

Definitely a masterpiece!

One of the standout episodes in anime I have ever seen. I was kind of shocked watching it I was not expecting such a rollercoaster of emotions and was expecting this for the final episode of the season. Especially for Ishigami it was special and a standout from any other episode till now.

What a load of work! That gal Ishigami went through so much in order to to protect is just a piece of trash. If you ask me, she totally deserved her revenge corn being leaked by her equally trashy ex. Too bad she could smile through it in the end like a stuck-up snob after everything she did to Ishigami.

Although the ending of Ishigami's past arc wasn't very satisfactory to me, I'm still glad that he grew up to become stronger out of all of this. So, it was worth it in the end - Kaguya was wrong. He didn't do it for nothing - he gained much strength for himself in person.

Exactly my thoughts. Someone should've told her the truth, not for ishigami's sake, but for her sake. She has to realise her mistakes to grow up and make better decisions. Hiding it robs her from the opportunity.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

Though to be fair, since writing that I have finished season 3 and am reading at about chapter 220 of the manga, way past what's currently out in the anime, and I don't feel like it's cheap anymore. I am not one to be into many stories of romance, so this one took me by surprise. There has been essentially nothing that has really made my eyes roll, at worst, I slightly disliked small aspects here and there of the stories and characters, which is not something I can say even of some of my favorite anime. Looking back, Ishigami's arcs, including this one were my favorite. I get where you are coming from, if this was happening to people I know IRL, I would prefer them to tell her, but I can accept it for the sake of the story just fine.

I didn't like this episode at all. He didn't protect her but just kept her in the dark. It would have been better to tell her the truth. I don't know what point they are trying to make with this episode. Its better knowing the truth and learning from it than remaining ignorant.

Lot of people talking about Ishigami's past. It's sad and all but no one is talking about why Ishigami lost the race. True that the white team got the lead but Ishigami really should've if it wasn't for those TG club. If you read the spinoff (which most people ignored) on chapter 77. Makki of the TG club was on red team and on the same race as Ishigami but she stood around drinking Miso soup (I have no idea what she's trying to do) delaying their team for a few second and Ishigami only need like 2 seconds to win that race
