| Well, after watching the "other version" quite a while ago and now watching this, I think that this made a bit more sense. But to be honest with this show, I only thought it was "not boring". I like the plane designs, but the setup of the story presented is nothing great anymore today. BGs and action animation were very good, but the animation of the characters was very cheap. I also didn't like any of the characters very much. They lacked s.t. basic. I won't drop it, but I am yet to be convinced that this is s.t. great. |

Yes, in some scenes it was outstanding, but often (in the opening too - especially obvious with the green-haired girl) when you saw the characters and behind them the very detailed background pictures, it was really hard not to be disturbed by the plain character art, having not much colors, little detail, big borderlines and often a lack of lighting. In your average anime they have better character art quality. I don't know how to explain it well, but I got the feeling, they often didn't put much effort in making the character art. |

I get what you're saying now thought I don't agree, backgrounds are always going to be more detailed than character art in a high budget show like this. If anything there is too many colors for the characters, especially hair. |

It's just that the score for the art in the reviews is always called animation, too, despite being a family name for everything. So, I used this wrong term here. Well, in other high-quality shows I never observed a similar case. Well, never mind. Anyway, I just watched the first episode of Macross Zero and it was so much better than the first episode of Macross F (as a whole). Ok, it's an OVA, but then again it's a bit of an older show. I am eager to see how this show will develop. But first I will watch the older parts. ^^ EDIT: By the way, what's the deal with that Sheryl having the same name (Nome) as the girl in Macross Zero? Are they related? |

| Character art is typical 00's style and awful, doesnt compare to the original Macross. The story and every character featured were boring. Again, doesnt compare to the original. Pop songs so far were shit. Doesnt compare. Yoko Kanno music was decent. I'm expecting good stuff from her as usual. Overall a meh start. |

The good for me is that during this 3 years i saw the original Macross and the two OVA's(prequel and sequel) so i guess the world of it won't be completely strange to me. Also i get to watch it in nice Blu-Ray quality. Anyway the technical department seems strong but the character artwork many times seem to lose it's coherence and i kind of hate that. Is that cheap trick where animators sacrifice solid characters artwork for the feeling of fluent movement and i don't like it. They are taking a shortcut by sacrificing the artwork of the character. The other bad thing is how obvious is the fact that you are seeing CG when you see the ships in space and planes. I don't know how to feel about random inexperience school hero guy becoming pilot at the end. I thought that was a Gundam speciality, is Macross trying to establish the same pattern? Not gonna comment on characters since it's too early but the green hair girl i guess was cute(already saw YouTube videos of that nyan nyan thing before watching this) and kind of laughed with the singer acting all bitchy although i don't expect her to be like that all the way because i know she's a popular character. I guess that's why i found it finny that she was a little bitchy because i thought she was gonna by a Lacus kind of character all nice and sweet. |
| In all honestly I don't think I'm gonna feel anything for these characters, they already feel bland and uninteresting. In any case, I loved the whole vibe this space opera setting gives you, and I'm gonna stick with it. This is one of those bigger-than-life struggles! Oh and the concert artistic work was really something else... |

| Honestly not sure what to expect. The designs were really bland. The action scenes were really fun. The music was meh. The choreography of the music was kriffing amazing. It had nothing like the first Macross's falling through the clouds scene. Hope for improvement. |

| Now that's more like it. This got me back into that SDF groove after Plus and Zero failed to capture the original's charm. Hope it keeps up. Thought Alto was going to be some douche, but I'm really liking him so far. The ponytail is a pretty fresh design choice and the fact that he's teased for being feminine makes him rather relatable. Ranka is cute. Not much to say about her yet, but that'll do. Also, is that seriously the eyecatch? Because it's my favorite thing ever as of right now. |
