This episode might be the best of the season, mainly because Raphtalia's miko outfit has made its triumphant return
Naofumi starts training in the Way of the Dragon Vein alongside Sadeena and Gaelion. Meanwhile, back in the village, Elhart pays a visit, delivering fresh gear for Raphtalia. Elhart has completed the requested weapon repairs. Raphtalia's shrine maiden/miko outfit returns unscathed, but in a state of panic, Sadeena attempts to forcefully remove it. Just as Raphtalia tries to explain, an explosion rocks the house where she was changing.
Damn, Raphtalia is not built for booze, lmao. Poor thing, she's already out. Even Gaelion isn't holding up well, lol. You know, watching Naofumi grow from episode 1, I can't help but feel proud of him. Oh, and totally slipped my mind – where the hell is Motoyasu? It's crazy, I didn't expect Raphtalia's miko outfit to lead to a village ambush. Wonder if she's had any contact with her family since we met her. People should cut her some slack; it's been forever. Go Naofumi, invade their country and show them what's up. That old dude, just like his daughter, still thinks Naofumi is a 'demon.'
Talking about Shield Hero always leaves me with mixed feelings. After Naofumi named Bitch and that other guy (forgot his name), the show seems to be going downhill. This season's way better than the last one, but nothing too crazy happened except the hype tournament arc. Feels like this season's setting up for something big. If they announce a season 4, I'm expecting major stuff from Shield Hero. But listening to the ED, it kinda gives off final vibes. So, who knows if we'll get a season 4.
Now that Naofumi's heading out to face Raphtalia's family in Q'ten Lo, it's got me all hyped up for a possible season 4.

| YOOO, SADINA, THAT BACKSTORY ABOUT RAPHTALIA IS ACTUALLY REALLY IMPORTANT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL TO KNOW IT BEFORE SHIT WENT DOWN, THANKS. I find it extremely funny how she was with Rapthalia's family all her life to protect them, but the only time they actually needed her she was just fishin' Btw if there were assassins looking at Rapthalia since the day she was born, why did they wait untill Sadena appeared and told her to get rid of her outfit? I mean, Rapthalia had been using it the entire day playing around with the kids lol Great way to end this, but fuck, I hope the next season comes soon, they left just started a new arc and leaved 😭 |

| Think this was a good finale to the season. After seeing the trailer of what this season would be, I will admit, I was a bit nervous. The three novels adapted, vol. 10-12, are three stand alone novels, lets of new characters introduced, and lots of new concepts introduced. In novel form, it's no issue, but it could easily be a jumbled med when trying to adapt it into anime form. But they handled it really well. Sure, some things were out of place compared to the novel, but I don't care about that, as long as the narrative stays true to both mediums. Who cares if this event happened before or after this other event in the novels, I personally don't. So in terms of pacing and how they story was pieced together, they did a really good job. When a story needed a bit more attention, they give it an extra episode, and I liked that. They only thing that could be a minor issue, was in the beginning of the season. Think it was the first episode, we see Trash for only a few seconds. He's not mentioned ny name or anything, assuming the viewer just knows and/or remembers who it is. There was a couple of other once like that as well. I've read the novels, so I didn't have any issues, but I could easily see some people not remembering a character, seeing a scene like that, and just thing "okay, that happened". But that was my only "complaint" of the season, and it's a minor thing, so again, think that's great! It was also great to finally see Atla on screen! I fell in love with the characters as I was reading the novels. She has such an attitude that is just so rare; a character that is so insanely strong and powerful, yet does nothing to show off her skills or anything. And sometimes, she just pulles off a bad ass move that makes your jaw drop to the floor from amazement. I often did this thought experiment when reading the novels, what character could kill Naofumi if they wanted to. It was just a fun little thing of thinking of the different characters powers, and if they had the desire to kill him, and there were no rules preventing it, could they do it. Characters like Raphtalia, at certain times, I felt 'yeah', now she can, later on, Naofumi learns something, and now I don't think she can anymore. Atla was the only character, where I felt she had the skill and power to kill him, she never lost that power. She's always been the most overpower character in the entire Shield Hero story, in my personal opinion. So, are we going to see a season 4? It's a great arc with some great things happening. If they do decide to adapt it, I do hope they decide to keep the Phoenix fight out of it. For the novel readers out there, you know what I mean. It's a great fight, no doubt. But it also changes the story a lot. Just like that last few episodes of season 1, where they go level up (novel 5), that was a transition arc. In the novels (novel 5), it gave us a chance to spend some time with out trio as an actual hero and his party, rather then a fugitive. The Spirit Tortoise arc that we saw in season 2 and everything we will see in the invasion arc of the potential season 4 is all a setup. It's all about learning to fight, arming ourselves, gathering allies, and uniting the heroes. Now we can start focusing on the main goal of the story, the reason why the heroes were summoned in the first place. To put things in perspective, seeing Naofumi on that boat, that takes place at the end of volume 13, the woman we see bowing is in vol. 14. We don't learn what the waves actually are till vol. 21. And all the information in-between is all relevant. Heck, I remember finishing that volume where we learn the truth behind it all, and suddenly events taking place back in vol. 1 made sense. Questions I had asked myself, never got and answer to, but suddenly remembered now. It's been rumored that the novels have been finished for years, but just haven't been released yet. I don't know it this is true or not. I personally feel that the story could be finished off in 4 or 5 novels. But again, this is nothing but speculation on my part. And whether the novel is finished or not, that's also just a rumor. It's no secret that fans didn't like that first ending of the webnovel. When the author rewrote the ending, that wasn't better received then the first one, but still not well received. Who knows, maybe the author still haven't come up with a satisfying ending to the story. My point with all this is... There has been a lot of talk in this season 3 of the Phoenix fight, it makes sense given the importance of it in the novels. But given how much it's mentioned now, and how much it would be mentioned in a potential season 4. I just think it would be a shame to have it in. That is, unless they would be willing to animate the rest of the story as well. Due to the nature of how the story changes, it would be a shame to leave people with such a massive set of blue balls. Of course, that would also mean that author would need to finish writing the novel. Or if the novel is already finished, that they would start realeasing it. Cause we've had to wait, consistently, for two years before getting the translated version of the novels. So even if vol. 23 came out today, we'd have to wait another two years. And it's been 4½ years since vol. 22 came out. Still, I'd say, keep the series coming out. I'd gladly see a season 4, if nothing else, . |

| Thank you Sadeena for never mentioning Raph's past to Naofumi ever despite how important he was to her, very cool. It's good that there is a redemption arc of sorts for the other 3 Cardinal Heroes, but I still don't care much for them despite being shown their backstories. | Can we just fight the damn Phoenix and move on? Because this whole "Raphtalia is a princess" revelation/upcoming new side-quest really feels like a poor attempt from the author to prolong his work as much a possible. Man... this show was about fighting Waves, not giant CGI animals and furry kingdoms. What happened? Anyways, another awful season for Shield Hero and I honestly think it was even worse than the already horrendous Season 2. Mainly because this one doesn't have anything that can redeem it aside from some very sporadic sequences of good animation. I mean, Season 2 at least had Kizuna's character and of course, it didn't have the nerve of repeating the same "stupid Hero being fooled by Malty" formula twice in what? less than 8 episodes? That aside, execution of the story was also terrible with things happening without proper buildup, unknown side characters getting stellar roles and a notorious lack of direction in terms of what the narrative wanted to do next. And not to mention the weird decision of the adaptation straight up cutting vital information regarding events, characters, skills, curses, etc., which inevitably ended up making everything feel even more confusing and random. Like seriously, sometimes you have to wonder whether the staff actually hate this project or not... 1/10 - Please, let this franchise die already. |

Otherwise, that was no conclusion at all...sounds like tease for "season 3 part 2" or whatever they decide to number it. I will greatly miss the OP if anything, one of the more recent that was both: pretty well animated & catchy OPs ...it tends to usually be only one or the other |

| What is this random Raphtalia royalty ass pull? No cohesion or any foreshadowing at all, what kind of deus ex machina was this? Also this season they keep repeating Bitch storyline to the others DUMBASS HERO, i fcking hate it. Nahh bro this might be the last season of Shield bro i watched. 5/10, it will be lower if it's not because of Kevin Penkin Music. |

| I actually liked what they started with this last episode, regarding Raphtalia's family past and her origins, especially how they think that she pretends to be the empress and how they directly attacked, now if they continue with another season that plot can be interesting |

| @ZER0PT (Boas) It is funny for you to say that, since on the staff side of things, this director and crew did a much better job than S1's did, the problem being, that the source material for S1 was just much better. There is only so much they could do with the more bland parts that they were adapting... this should have been the staff for S2, and that should have received 24-25 episodes, S2 source for me had more potential than this mini arc, the redemption of the heroes was never that great to start with since the other heroes are at best mid characters on this series. Sigmar-Unberogen said: Have the same impression. Shield Hero resembles GOT adaptation, in a way. More seasons we get, more rushed and less faithful it becomes to the source. Not true here, the different is that Tate's source material really gets worst with time, it can still be enjoyable but S3 was honestly working with very MID volumes at best, they are just bland (outside Atla), and nothing really exciting to talk about. If a S4 comes, it should animate the climax of the Phoenix which will probably be among the most emotional things in the series, and the sole reason I could see myself wishing for a S4. |

| The power levels are completely out of hand by now! Our protagonists never looked so powerless when facing the random villain of the week. It makes no sense when they managed to survive several waves, a zombie dragon and an powered up zombie dragon. But the random minion suddenly is stronger than everything they faced before, that makes no sense. The three hero rehabilitation was a necessary plotdevice but should have been adapted in a less cringeworthy way, everyone simply fell for the same Malty trick which honestly would be completely unrealistic to see happen in reality. I hate what they did to Raphtalia's character, she became Naofumi's friendly secretary without any combat value or decent dialog. an ok season but they should take time to explain things a little better |

| They hyped up whatever's coming next pretty well, did make me go from "I don't wanna watch a season 4 but will anyway because it's so popular" to "wouldn't mind watching a season 4 at all" I'll just say what has already been said many times already, that this season had a considerable leap in quality over the previous one. Better direction, screenplay, animation, sound, the works... having the staff of the first season return really did do wonders. That said, while on a technical scale it is quite commendable, what's with this story? It's Naofumi playing clash of clans and making his village stronger to prepare for incoming raids, and we end with "surprise, Raphtalia's a princess! New conflict has arisen, at least now we have something somewhatinteresting to do while we wait for the pheonix or whatever the fuck!" But it's not even so much WHAT is happening that is the issue, but HOW it's happening. It all still feels rushed, as season 2 did. It feels like it's skipping over countless small details that would've smooth things over considerably, leaping from plot point to plot point. Maybe it's actually not rushed, this is how the light novels are. Then again, when was the last time a light novel adaptation was not at least a little bit light on the details. Right now underneath this I'm looking at a "too many characters" thread, and I have to agree. Sometimes I'm wondering, "who are these guys and what are they doing here again??" Getting back to the light novels, maybe they just never got as fleshed out as they needed to in them. In that case, fine. They made due with what they got, and have done an alright job. If this season was truly rushed and that the story's better in the light novels, this season gets a 4. Still way better than the 2 that was season 2. But I'd rather much believe that the following is true instead: That if the light novels that this season covered were actually mediocre. This season would get at least a 5 then. Because it did look like love and care was being poured out into this season, there was just not much to work with. Idk, not worth it to keep speculating without just going in and actually reading the light novels, which I'm inclined to do whatsoever. Let's just leave this with a score I think it deserves right now, taking it at face value. Good animation, but a good, well-told story is more important. 4.8/10 |

I didn't quite understand why to continue with this episode when the arc had ended in the previous episode, but it has become clear that this episode is the beginning of the new arc, one that seems to bring surprises! In general was a mediocre season! 5/10 kekeke |

| Oh so Raphtalia is royalty from another country and that miko outfit is a declaration that she's going for the throne... how convenient lol. Seriously, there are even spies that have always been watching her without anyone noticing until now that they attacked her. Why?! I don't think it was necessary to pull this plot out of nowhere, Raphtalia was fine as she was. At least if there's one good thing about all this, it's seeing her in the miko outfit, she looks great! The season ended and we still have these little encounters between Trash and Atla huh. Wasn't there a key visual that implied that he would be important this season? What happened to that? What the hell is Motoyasu up to? Is he trying to become one with the chocobos filolials or something? xD I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of Filo and Melty's adventures, it looks fun. We had very little of Melty and the same could be said for Filo after the first arc but at least one of the highlights of this season will be her idol style song so there's that. Man, I don't know what to think about this season. While the previous season had the infamous tortoise arc, it also had the Kizuna arc who is easily one of the best girls in the series. This season on the other hand, started off pretty good and very promising, I really liked the first few episodes but once the other heroes showed up... maybe it's because I never gave a shit about them, but it was definitely annoying to see them, let alone go through the same thing 3 times. All expectations died, except for that big battle with the dragon, I really liked that part. I definitely like this show better when it's about Naofumi and his party. Sadeena and Atla were welcome additions and I really liked the OP. And that's it for this season of Shield Hero. It was really weird what they did at the end removing the 3 from the title, I thought they will announce a fourth season but nope, they just left it at that. I guess something else may be coming? P.S. Please someone kill Malty. |

| I don't know if my expectations were too high here, but this entire season felt like a string of filler episodes where Naofumi runs a daycare. On top of that, the pacing was so excruciating that I found myself skipping through some episodes out of frustration. It's so far removed from how good the original story was that it honestly left me exhausted and disappointed. This last episode was so random too... k... Now that I think back on it, the dragon episode was just as weird and out of left field too. I don't even know what's going on anymore... Malty is starting to turn into Team Rocket while Naofumi is on a tear collecting pokeslaves. |

| so finally the four cardinal heroes are banded together. things started to get better. I still don't understand, why most fighter in this anime has the audacity to attack heroes and tried to kill them though. what's the point of becoming hero if they get easily killed by fodder character |
