| First of all, thank you for taking the time to explain Hokuto no Ken in such detail. Now I know that the series has more to it. I'm sure it wouldn't have been as popular as it was back then if it was just GAR. To be frank, maybe I'll read it but I'm not too compelled to start soon. Even so, now I have a clearer picture of what's behind surface than before. |

You seem to have rather varied taste, but I mostly threw in a lot of action oriented stuff that might be up your alley. |

I'd recommend more of my personal favs if you want. |

Based on your higher rated stuff, it seems you are kind of planted between the polarizing extremes of super lax slice of life and very intense stuff (maybe I'm just singling out Baccano and AoT here). Regardless, these might be up your alley: -Casshern Sins (rather unorthodox art aesthetics, not as indulgent as Madoka, but a similar dark vibe) -Fuujin Monogatari -Gankutsuou (motioned fabrics serve as patterns for characters' clothing and everything looks really dazzling) -Haibane Renmei -Hajime no Ippo -Hunter x Hunter -Kaiba (more sci-fi stuff, very affecting and surreal, my favourite Yuasa work) -Beast Player Erin -Kino's Journey -Kure-nai -Letter to Momo (kind of a grounded Ghibli-esque film) -Princess Mononoke (current fav of Miyazaki, granted I haven't seen all his stuff) -Mujin Wakusei Survive -Nodame Cantabile -Noein (since you seem fond of Steins;Gate and Madoka, this has a lot of quantum physics and alternate dimension stuff) -R.O.D the TV -RahXephon -Rainbow (Madhouse prison drama, super gritty) -Redline -Rose of Versailles -Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (why aren't you watching it this very second?) -Samurai Champloo -Serial Experiments Lain -Angel's Egg (an animated painting) -Touch -Bunny Drop -Tatami Galaxy (really zany style) EDIT: For comedy stuff, I'd say -DD Hokuto no Ken 2013 (I think you can get by having not seen the main series to watch this, but Hokuto no Ken 1 is still highly recommended from me in general. DD is hilarious though). -mutha effin Inferno Cop -1st 3 episodes of Mad Bull 34 -The Legend of Koizumi -Sexy Commando -Teekyu if you can tolerate rapid fire 2 minute comedy -Yondemasu Azazel-san TV (cleverly written potty humour) |

If you haven't then you're in for a treat. However you've read WAY more than I have (manga atleast) so recommending is difficult but I guess I should tell you to read Buddha since it's the best manga I've read and it's relatively short. Annarasumanara is pretty ok also. |

One of the best read. and we also need more voter for the manga enlight thread. =p - Ghost sweeper Mikami: Since you like love hina, I think this might interest you. An oldschool shounen/comedy with one of the most hilarious male MC I have ever read. - Uchuu Kyoudai: It's in our enlightenment for a reason. I see you seems to enjoy SoL series, so I present you one of the best in its genre. - Maison Ikkoku: well, you like love hina and ichigo 100%. and If you are interested, try fruit basket as well. - One Outs: Pretty interesting intake on Baseball. Some aspects may feels repetitive and bland, but the overall fun factor is pretty good. If you like it, then big chance you will enjoy Liar Game (imho the latter is the author's best work) - Kingdom: Oh boy, I LOVE promoting this series. one of the most epic historical seinen, full of wonderful casts, great battle coreography, and the best depiction of war I have ever seen in manga. From your PTR: - Gin no Saji - bartender - hachimitsu no clover - Beck - Psyren and don't bother with: - Eden no Ori: promosing at first, suck at the middle.... speechless at the end.... - Prince of Tennis: IDK why it's so popular back then. One of the stupidest thing I have ever read. |

lufforee said: Any recommendations based on my anime list? I'm willing to try anything that'll be recommended to me. http://myanimelist.net/animelist/lufforee Big thanks in advance! Based on your taste, I'd recommend the Ghost in the Shell franchise. To be specific: Oshii's Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: SAC, and 2nd Gig. Maybe try Seirei no Moribito too. Based on my personal bias, I'd recommend Katanagatari. Because I love it, and want people to watch. Whether they think it's good or not is irrelevant to me, I just want it to be watched some more. And based on the need to recommend classics/modern classics to people, go watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, Mushishi, Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta, Aria, the Mobile Police Patlabor movies (just 1 and 2,) Paraboia Agent, Millennium Actress, Angels Egg, Perfect Blue, and My Neighbor Totoro. There are other things I could recommend, but you'd have to be more specific about what you're looking for. Enjoy! |

I usually prefer series that are interesting and has something to keep you sitting. Mild action series or Slice of Life , Don't really mind. With dark (or serene) atmosphere would be great as well. What I'm usually strict on is when show very slowly progresses with storyline , If pace is too slow or too rushed then I can't enjoy the show but I can tolerate it if it gets better with time. (Doesn't applies to plotless slice of life series.) I hope this was more detailed as to what I'm looking for. |

| Alright, the Ghost in the Shell was the right call. It's atmospheric, beautifully paced, and uses action effectively. Plus both Stand Alone Complex and the movie are incredibly intelligent. Aria is also a good fit. It's one of the few SoL series that's managed to keep me hooked for an extended period of time (given you might have to force yourself past season 1.) Then go for all the major works of Satoshi Kon. And then Mononoke and Mushishi. |

I like your profile picture, whatever it is! :) Welp, I just read a ton of short manga recently and these are the one that stuck out. -"At Least, Like That Snow..." is an impactful manga and it's my favorite though it's not listed on MAL. It's a one shot that covers ephemeral romance. -I see you have L∞p on your list. It was pretty interesting and entertaining with a twist. It's short and sweet. Good stuff. -Hotel is 5 chapter manga. The chapter focusing on Tuna is really funny. Other chapters, such as the first and second ones, hit on your emotions and are more serious. I really like the art style in this manga as it's detailed. -Sekai no Owari to Yoake Mae has a bunch of one shots (and 3 chapters with a connected story) that's made by Inio Asano. This is the same mangaka who made Solanin, which you enjoyed (and I enjoyed). It feels very similar to that. It's serious at points and somewhat ridiculous at others. There's some pretty messed up stuff in here but there's always a little bit of hope in the end. -Human Chair is a one shot. It's short, sweet, and creepy. This mangaka is know for a peculiar kind of horror. If you like this you might want to read his other relatively short manga, Uzumaki. -On Your Mark is a music video by Ghibli. I'm cheating with this one but I think it's worth a watch. It's about a post apocalyptic world, an oppressive society, and freedom. If you want some more, just let me know. I hope you enjoy yourself with these. :) |

| I haven't been able to get myself indulged in ANY anime for the past few years aside from Hyouka, Naruto Shippuuden and to a certain degree, Magi. I think it's partly due to the fact that I've been watching a lot of these "non-anime" TV shows like Breaking Bad, Homeland, Hannibal, Masters Of Sex etc which have completely ruined my anime flow! ..but mainly because anime these days are complete shite! uninteresting. As of now, I seem to prefer watching tense, fast-paced, psychological shows so if there is any hidden gem or masterpiece that I may have missed out on, please tell me! |

| Could I get a few manga suggestions? Manga has always interested me, but just recently am I finding myself getting pretty into it, and I've been reading more manga than watching anime this month. Basically I like sci-fi, mecha, and stuff that just in general that has a traditional old school vibe (so I have been enjoying Go Nagai works, and should probably read some Tezuka for sure). I don't really like long running shounen manga despite JJBA being a favorite, so I probably won't be reading any of that outside of maybe Kyou Kara Ore Wa and the Hokuto no Ken manga. Not a fan of comedy, school, romance, or stuff in that vein either. Blame and Battle Angel Alita seem really cool. But outside of obvious big name stuff, I'm not really sure what I should check out. |

| I find that there are somewhat limited options to mecha manga. There just really aren't many that haven't got good coverage with anime already or are just generally incomplete. There is Five Star Stories, a personal favorite of mine, but it is an acquired taste and has a ton of problems, like that half of it's story is actually just trivia information and will be impossible top follow without paying attention to that and that it'll never be complete. On the other hand it does have a bunch of cool robot designs, cool characters, detailed art and generally it is just showing off the creators ideas more than being a solid storyline. Then there is Gundam manga, but most stuff is supplementary stories and the only new "era" you can find is the Crossbone Gundam, which I find somewhat overstated as the Gundam that should be animated. In case you want to read that be sure to have watched F91 before it (F90 suit also makes an appearance later but it's not important), as it'll have returning characters. Just know that it feels VERY shounen like, has oversimplistic art, fanservice and generally it's not too loyal to UC spirit. I don't actually have any strong recommendations on Gundam manga, but it's not like it'll take a whole lot of time in case you feel like expanding your Gundam knowledge. For general action, it's not really my genre. Shigurui has extremely brutal sword porn, really to the point that it is sexual. Not sure if that's your thing, but generally the art is fantastic and I somehow found it easy to follow due to its narrative structure maybe. If you like Hokuto no Ken style overly manly and violent killing, but presented in a so-bad-its-good way, then you might want to give a shot to Riki Oh. Seriously, this guy is even tougher than Kenshiro. The manga will constantly pull off amazingly stupid stunts and plot twists that will leave your jaw open. It's hilarious, but might be just a bit too much. Then there is Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa, another favorite of mine, but this is more of a psychological parody of a middle aged loser. It has Fukumoto's trademark style in both art and narrative (i.e. overblown psychology), so if your familiar with that it might be worth a shot. Blame is quite confusing, but the art alone is a good reason to check it out. Hmm... it seems I'm just recommending my favorites, but the rest of the stuff doesn't seem like something we share common ground on. |

What about trying to read When they cry sound novels? VN realm is great for people who enjoy both anime and books. (extra points 17+ stuff only) Higurashi no naku koro no is more light on the mistery part but it is still a mystery on the core. (Forget whatever you have heard about the anime the feeling is different) There is also umineko no naku koro ni more heavy on the mystery part but still enjoiable for the rest. (Also the second half won't be animated) and one of the most famous mystery Visual novels oput there. I suggest reading higurashi before because the author likes to trow references but it ok to read umineko first if you like it more. |
