Episode 4 is a great episode. Typical KyoAni animation, never ceases to impress me. Went to bed after EP 4.

Characters are hilarious. I want to go to the gym again so girls can gasam over my amazing biceps and triceps.

I have yet to see your love of Run thus far.

I really don't think much of the uniforms - at least in this art. The brown is pretty awful.

Nextworld has been a lot better than I thought it would be. It has an old-school style of cartoonish drawings that makes it pretty enjoyable.

Is it your first (early) Tezuka manga?
It's pretty whacky how it jumps all over the place - probably due to how it was originally released. There's a sort of 'political incorrectness' to how Tezuka genuinely throws around the SF-ish issues. It's quite charming and pulpy.

It's the third one I'll be reading by him. Though this is the oldest one so far, seeing as how it's from 1951 and all. Yeah the story has very little fluidity from what I've read so far. It just doesn't transition well from one event to another, that at times it seems likes there is too much going on, when there really isn't.

*Rin (fuck you auto correct). Dafuq is going on with his teeth as well o.O?

Also, Rei is hilarious. He has to be the funniest character thus far. Then protagonist-kun (black hair, blue eyes dude), reminds me of Yu Narukami from Persona 4 the animation. Rest of the male cast is meh.

I've been going through his stuff sort of chronologically, so I do think that compared to some of the earlier works (Lost World, New Treasure Island, Metropolis) - I do think it's laid out a lot better panel-wise. I remember Angel Gunfighter also having better transitions between panels - which was from the same year as Nextworld if I remember right.
In his previous works there was a lot more of the weird panel use - like a literal animation storyboard kind of - or a couple of key frames. Then in Metropolis you can see Tezuka really cramming a lot of 'action' into each panel - all those voice boxes and tonnes of characters doing random things.

But yeah, it does feel like his style is changing, gradually, and his storytelling is improving too. I'd take a guess that he had a much more 'normal' manga style by the time of his gekiga-influenced stuff.

This was probably one of the earlier attempts at telling a non-linear story, but it just didn't come out right. Between the fluctuation of the war and other events, it just became a total cluster of things. And yes, you can definitely see the improvement in his storytelling in his works like Pluto. I just think he's trying to do too much with so little space and it just doesn't transition well. The story is pretty good though, and the jabs he takes at multiple things such as the politicians is done really well.

I think I saw Adventure back in 2011 or 12, Maybe earlier, so it's still sort of in recallable-memory for me.

Yeah I don't think it works most of the time when he crams things in like that. It makes for some lively and interesting scenes, but usually he puts too much dialogue if anything. Panels on their own are nice, but often when reading through there seems to be a bit of a 'jump' between them.

I agree with liking the story. It's nice how it's so unburdened - and even when it's naive, there's that underlying cynicism and sometimes overtly addressed things like all the petty war, hate, fear, greed, and so on.

Tezuka didn't have a direct hand in Pluto though. Urasawa took Astro Boy - one or two of the arcs specifically - and then did something of his own with it. (But I haven't read it yet, so I'm not sure how much he took from Tezuka.)

Agreed. The story has a nice charm to it, that even when the transitions are botched, it makes up for it with the loony style it has going on.

I wouldn't know myself either, as I have not read astro boy. Do you have any place that has most of Tezuka's works? I've noticed that a lot of the bigger manga sites don't carry that many of them, or they have incomplete entries.

I still haven't read the second volume of Nextworld yet, so I might fall behind you pretty quick.
It seems one interesting thing with Tezuka is his 'star constellation' - how he re-uses his characters - it adds an interesting layer to the whole thing, but it's still in its early stages at this point.

All the Tezuka I intend to read for now I've found on Bakabt. If you have an account you can search it up pretty easily, otherwise there's quite a lot of Tezuka there - something like 20+
There are probably quite a few english releases that haven't been scanned either, but I'm not sure.

That's because they tried to adapt too many volumes in too few episodes.

I've noticed that in the character entries. Rocko appears in like more than half of his stories. I think that's pretty good, since it lets him intertwine settings, events, and other things without having to make a whole new cast or world. Which of his other works are you planning to read, or currently reading? I'm just trying to get the first volume done, and then I'll be jumping on that ashita no joe manga. I've only read the first chapter, but damn it seems good.

And can't Parasyte try any harder? Sure, sure, I'll give you that before it didn't matter if they reused the CG models but this is actually kinda important, I can't help but laugh at this sight, it was even worst when they had that other guy look through a monitor and he looked at these people and he was like "dude, I don't fucking know, can't tell who is who", can't blame him really.

I like going through manga by mangaka and in written order if I can, so I've been doing that so far. My first goal for now has been to get Astro Boy so I can enjoy Pluto for all is worth, but I do want to read his other interesting works like Buddha, Dororo, Phoenix, Black Jack, Apollo's Song, Princess Knight, and pretty much anything really.

It's great when interesting mangaka have so many works that are actually translated.
