Wow thank fuc this crap Is over; what a drag this was to get through. The killer demon thing lives to slay another day and the pointless blind geezer who only episodes ago tried to decapitate demon hikaru proceeds to take a train to watch them both play fight on the beach. Like wtf even if this show, Rei and Asako know he isn't human anymore, but twelve episodes later, they still let him roam free? The thing has urges to kill does this town not give af anymore? Yoshiki is by far the most annoying character having 50/50 emotions on and off. 🎵should he live or should he die🎵 Still wants to stay with demon hikaru after nearly dying over and over again. The demon now feels sorry for what it did... It couldn't have felt that sorry if it only took a little persuading to not go back to the woods after all. I cant believe people have hyped this up so much thats its getting a season 2. What a downer series I wish I never had the misfortune of watching.

The season finale.

Reflecting on all the events that happened, Hikaru kinda embraced his identity. His personality and actions in this episode felt more human than in the first episodes. We also got him and Yoshiki at the beach. Seems they managed to get out of some emotions in this, a mixture of anxiety and happy moments. Props to the VA for playing their characters so well and bringing them to life.

Season 2 got announced

How tf is this even a homosexual show like all he did was put his hand into the void and there's weirdos like you that are clapping everytime they have mere contact. The furthest thing from a gay anime ive ever seen. If thats all you watched this trash for i feel sorry for you.

Well, it's the anime that got me to start up a myanimelist and consider posting, so that's something. It's a coming of age, and the horror is from the coming of age aspect more than the actual physical and metaphysical mystery sections. At least, for Season 1.

What a masterful finale man, that entire sequence at the beach was just chef’s kiss, the directing, the colors, the voice acting, I was completely sucked in, what an amazing way to end the show for now, yeah we may not have gotten any big plot answers but this was so satisfying. And not just the beach scene, but the moment between Hikaru and Asako in the classroom too, you don’t really think about it at the start of the show but yeah no one ever got to grieve the death of the true Hikaru, I like how Asako crying made the current Hikaru realize that, and I also like how we saw some development on Hikaru’s part here when he went to wipe Asako’s tears away, he definitely understands a bit more what it’s like being human now.

I also want to point out how cool the mix up of real life footage and animation was during the trip to the beach, it didn’t look out of place at all weirdly enough, and we saw a bit of the ED visuals here too with Hikaru making that face to make Yoshiki laugh, I’m glad we got the context of that scene now. And yeah I can see why Yoshiki reacted that way to Hikaru deciding on his own to go back up the mountain, he’s like no son I’ve sunk too much effort into you lol, but it also comes down to this Hikaru being his own person now, and Yoshiki isn’t about to say goodbye to him like that, a very powerful scene to end the show on, and yeah you could definitely feel the gay here more than ever lol, honestly if there ever was a place for it to be in the forefront, it was here.

Really gonna miss this one man, absolutely one of the best horror anime we’ve had in a while, would’ve been nice to have this one in spooky month too but I’m just glad we got a Season 2 confirmed already, it makes this awesome finale feel even better. I’m also really gonna miss that OP and ED, when the show first started I didn’t think they were very fitting for a horror anime but now I don’t think they could be more fitting, I’m especially gonna miss air drumming to the OP lol.

As a pretty casual viewer for this series I can't say that this series really paid off big for me. It was pretty good but it didn't really take off in either the horror or romance angles and sort of balanced them decently without getting into great territory in either. I'm interested in another season to see where it goes though.

they put actual footage in animation. Wow like pa works and kyoto animation.
They didn't even used cgi on water. Nice man.
Took whole ass season to come into a single conclusion which didn't even matter.
Maybe story on season 2 I guess.

I was honestly expecting more from this show, it wasn't really scary, and some characters show up on multiple episodes for like 3 mins, and do literally nothing.

I haven't loved this show as much as everyone else, but even I have to admit that last episode was pretty much perfect.
What a great job from everyone involved. Had a lot of story content that wrapped up certain themes while still leaving them open to be expanded upon in the second season.

I wonder if when Hikaru asked Yoshiki for a wish he was hoping Yoshiki would say something like "I want to be with you forever". Because after Yoshiki asked for him to stay he said "it took you long enough" as if he was waiting for this moment/wish.

Anyways it was difficult to understand their fight, they said so many things that I feel lost. But I suppose the gist is that Yoshiki feels like he's a monster as well (for being egotistical and wanting Hikaru even tho Hikaru could kill the whole village and in a way for being gay/different from everyone). Hikaru shows that he's different from og Hikaru and that he loves Yoshiki (and this gets me thinking about if og Hikaru was indeed straight since apparently he used to like girls).

More than the beach scene what got me was Yoshiki realizing that he felt he didn't have a home just like Hikaru. As an autistic person I can understand them, it's really weird how everyone has friends but I can't be able to do it or feel understood by other people. That's just like floating around and not having anyone to make you stay somewhere.

Illegal cliffhanger of a finale, but since a second season is confirmed, I guess it’s fine. That said, I can’t wait to see what the detective is going to do. Did he get emotional after witnessing their fight and just confront them? Or is he actually going to decapitate Hikaru once again? I can't wait to find out.

Noooo ending the season like that should be illegal. A perfect last episode, easily my favorite from this entire show. Hikaru wiping away Asako's tears...ah my heart. The buildup to the ocean fight was great, it's pretty much the reverse of what happened when Yoshiki was planning to kill Hikaru. But I'm glad Hikaru actually told Yoshiki that he was planning on returning to the mountain, instead of disappearing on him without a word. That would've been brutal, but Hikaru is too pure to do that. And the ocean fight itself...boy oh boy, seeing Yoshiki finally pour out his true feelings like that was so satisfying. From the first episode, I never thought I would like Hikaru so much; but when he said he was going to return to the mountain, even I was getting worked up about it. Glad he's staying. Tanaka just chilling and watching the drama unfold was...interesting lol.

I gotta say, I am a bit disappointed with the horror elements. It was a lot less scary than I thought it would be (only some of the monsters looked gross)...though I guess that's a bit unfair since that applies to 90% of "horror" anime. Also, some of the episodes felt a bit slow and repetitive, although looking back I appreciate it since it makes Hikaru and Yoshiki's relationship feel much more authentic and complex. Anyways, I gotta give big praise to this show for the directing. Wow, some of the visuals were great, and I love how the show captures the tense atmosphere and conveys the dual feelings of the characters so well. Overall, a solid 7-7.5/10 show and I'm super stoked S2 is already confirmed.

GUYS. I really think it was a really good anime: facinating story, complicated relationships, PERFECT charachters. It’s all balanced.

SEASON2 GOT RELASED!

The last episode was so gorgeous, I dont even have world to descrive it. When “Hikaru” told Yoshiki that he wanted to return to the montain and he said ALL THOSE THINGS i was in a floods of tears.

Onestly i think that Yoshiki is kinda crazy, but i also understand him. How can he live without hikaru? His favourite person after all? but on the other side.. hes not hikaru, hes just “something” inside his body. THEY are pretty different, as “HIKARU” said when they were on the beach: his fav food is ice cream, hikaru’s favourite was watermelon and so on..
I ALSO THINK YOSHIKI ACCEPTED HIKARUS DEATH, BUT HE STILL DOESNT WANT TO LET “HIKARU” GO. he have to accept the fact that he’s not human and not so safe, based on what we know

the bigger problem is that “HIKARU” is falling for Yoshiki, and I’m scared that Yoshiki is feeling that too, but it’s a very VERY risky thing..
Maybe this is the main reason why he doesn’t want to let him go, he doesnt want to lose someone this important again
I’m really worried for season 2.

IN MY OPINION, as much as it can hurt, the best thing is let “hikaru” go. It’ll be easier for Yoshiki: even if he accepted that hikaru is no longer with us, he STILL sees him EVERYDAY, EVERYWHERE.. and I’m SURE this is freaking Yoshiki out.. he will heel, even if it’s not so easy.

I bought the manga too, but I don’t really know if I want to know. So I think I’ll just wait for season 2.. I have to recover for the first one.

TO CONCLUDE IN BEAUTY, those two became my favorite “in another universe”.

(Ps. I’m crying btw)

Beautiful 1st cour finale regarding how complex both of Hikaru and Yoshiki feelings are right now especially when fake Hikaru understood more about himself and his place as a Hikaru's replacement for the other ones when they don't know that the real Hikaru died... Anyway that was an incredible anime and easily my favorite one from this season, CAN'T WAIT to see the 2nd half of the manga adapted!!!

Soo there's gonna be a second season. I didn't expect that, I thought this episode was going to be the last and catch up with the manga, since the manga isn't long.

Let me just say this anime looks and sounds beautiful. I love the effects like half of Hikaru being filled in red, the live action train and nature, and the lighting, which feels weird to say about an anime but the sunlight in those school scenes was damn beautiful. And it really visually translates the summer feeling. I love Yoshiki and his sister. Yoshiki finally.. confessed his feelings? I wish he did it more directly, "Hikaru" said i love you but i guess Yoshiki's too repressed. Good scene though and fake Shizuo just watching the drama unfold. I have mixed feelings about the ending since it's not the ending ending and doesn't feel like one and the tension kinda deflates. I guess we'll see. Right now it's a 9/10 overall. I think us horror fans sometimes take what we can get.

@PaninaManina LOL

@Eliapple I think "It took you long enough" just meant that Hikaru was aware of Yoshiki's feelings for the original Hikaru, but Yoshiki himself was still in denial about them

decent finale, Nonuki really changed episode by epside, he acts more humans than most at this point which is quite ironic, Yoshiki wanting him to stay is still some sort of coping and extremely egoistic since it's gonna hurt the village in the short and long term

Overall i liked this anime, felt like a weird mix between Higurashi,Dark Gathering and Saya no Uta but i gotta say the opening visual is quite misleading, teasing some slasher vibe and it was more slice of life with a mix of horror of the week type, i hope story picks up a little in season 2

I know this show picked quite a bit of drama which almost made me not watch it, well strangely the show's vibe is far from what people were saying but this was an enjoyable season except for the hands penetration scenes which were unsettling but also quite cringy imo

So yeah solid 6.5/10 definitely has the potential to reach higher, hope for new impurities introduced and new mysteries to solve and see how Nonuki evolve with his pseudo human form.

An absolute amazing last episode. From the start to the end this show did not disappoint. amazing story telling, pacing, creepiness, horror aspects, characters. just WOW.
Hikaru and Yoshiki at the beach had me emotionallll. I was so tensed up wondering if yellow head was gonna do something and we'd be left on a cliff hanger but thankfully that didnt happen. Had me laughing at the fact he probs went into the water and saved the salamander XD.
Really cannot wait for S2.

Ah, I suspected it wouldn't end in one season. I kind of feel sorry for Yoshiki, being gay in a small town surrounded by small minds is no fun. It's no wonder he thinks he is a freak, a monster.
I wonder what Tanaka wants from them though? It's obvious he wants something, but at the same time he doesn't seem inimical to Hiraku.

For me, this was the best episode of the series. Absolutely everything about it played out, down to the smallest details. And that ending, oh boy. It's good that a second season has been announced, because I would've gone mad over that cliffhanger lol.

As someone who was familiar with the manga up to about this moment in the plot, I have to say that this adaptation did not meet my expectations. It absolutely surpassed them.

Chussy was too strong. Amazing emotional build in this last episode. Yoshiki & Hikaru scene was good, but the Asako and Hikaru scene was much more impactful for me.

Got a massive reality check when Asako realised Hikaru was long gone and started crying. Hikaru reaction about letting them move on; was such a massive character realisation and really hit hard. I'm impressed with how well some of the characters interactions were, I don't think we'll get a S2 anytime soon but look forward to it.

Although it wasn't too dark, I still enjoyed the show overall. The conclusion was an emotional climax for Yoshiki and Hikaru's relationship.

I challenge this series to boldly embrace how problematic queer can be, rather than turning it into a circlejerk or mere rebellion.

This is how every BL anime should be. Subtle to avoid being labelled as fujo bait, but still gay nonetheless with significant queer undertones.

Even putting the gay representation aside, this is a well made horror mystery anime. I was wondering what the heck is the deal with Hikaru and that mountain, although the pacing was too slow at times but it didn't hurt the quality of the show thankfully.
