Was Ashaf saving Guideau from Ms. Policeman, or Ms. Policeman fom Guideau? Hmm. Obviously it was not any kind of romantic gesture.

Was fighting to stay awake. So one-dimensional and amateurishly written, it leaves a bad taste. Wasted good premise on "look at me, I can write a dark world. I'm 17 btw and read, like, 3 books."

@jbbakk it's episode 2 bro - Majo to Yajuu doesn't treat readers /watchers like idiots who need everything spelled out for them right from the start at all, there is a lot more nuance and moral greyness to it all but saying anything beyond that would spoiler things, like just have a bit of patience and you might be suprised by how much the story will subvert any initial assumptions you have made thus far

Solid position. At the moment I have nothing to complain about. The story is carried out at an appropriate pace - without strange jumps or forced scenes. We get clear archetypes of characters with whom we can sympathize or not. There is an explanation of the motives, which the author also silently leaves to the moral judgment of the reader/viewer. The animation is at a surprisingly high level, although it is not the perfectionism of SHAFT, the impeccable artistry of MAPPA's scene dynamics, or even the madness of TRIGGER's frivolously surreal animation. Here, the very young (only nine years old) Yokohama Animation Lab shows that they also have a talented team within their walls, of which they do not have to be ashamed. The atmosphere and lines of the manga have been preserved, which makes me very happy. At this point, I can, with a clear conscience, recommend this anime to everyone whose fantasy is pleasantly tickled by dark Old English atmosphere sprinkled with mystery, blood and magic.

Once again, both Ashaf and Guideau are on the hunt for witches, though what their client calls them for, is for magical beast extermination, which the latter is not happy at for the former to carry out the pet-sitting job. But before that, all of their jobs were minion jobs, something which Guideau is clearly frustrated since she joined the Order to exterminate witches. Until then, it's all magical beasts, until witch cases are given as a priority, which they get one...or an old lady's request to use magic to open the case. All the jobs after the witch were month-free witch hunts, until one black envelope warrants their need, which is indicative of a witch case.

A witch and a grimoire committing grotesque murders in Hayden, normal police investigators like Haines are powerless to do anything about it. The Witch's Pastime case, which is a great deal for the Order. The Paladin Corps, which handle witches, the Hayden mayor refusing their help in order to claim the work as their own, Haines knows it best since it's the ward that she regulates, but that Guideau wants to hurriedly undo the curse from the respective witch.

The worldbuilding may be slow, but the journey is worth the run.

@curvedtree Same. Unless she mellows out, Guideau makes the show really hard to watch for me.

if Guideau would keep her mouth shut, insted of us have to hear her bile every 2 second, i think the show could be really good, the idear overall is good, but she needs to mellow or else this show just ruined by her.

Fantastic as always. 10/10. I’m interested to find out more about this magical resonance organization. I wonder who this witch that cursed Guideau is? And who is the murderer?

whhyyyyyyyyyyyyy do they keep changing stuff that completely alters the feel of a scene????????? Guideau never grabs Ashaf during that dispute, he knows not to because Ashaf is important to his goals, that's the whole reason he only verbally threatens Ashaf FFS. Not to mention Guideau DOES NOT TRUST ANYONE so wtf is with the line about putting his trust in him?? Oh yeah, that's an anime only line, wtf.

they've also made Ashaf overly condescending towards Guideau?? That whole thing about teaching him a lesson is anime only AGAIN, there isn't a line in that scene even remotely similar in the manga. He doesn't mess with Guideau to "teach him a lesson", that's just who he is, he finds pushing Guideau's buttons amusing so he does it.

worse still, dialogue pacing is completely off. Whoever directed this clearly has no experience with atmospheric, tense, slowburn series which is what MtY is; there's supposed to be a pause before Guideau says he'll kill Ashaf first and a pause where Ashaf stares at Guideau before answering, you know, to let the moment hang and build tension between them?? Instead it's treated like Guideau demanded ice cream and Ashaf said "not now".

finally, the artstyle they've chosen sucks. MtY is a dark fantasy mystery/thriller aimed at adults, it's supposed to be grungy and moody, not brightly light and vibrantly coloured. Here's a little subtle thing from the manga that's been totally ignored, throughout the whole series the author plays with eye shine (the little white marks on the iris); Ashaf in particular is RARELY shown with eye shine, Guideau has eye shine more often than Ashaf but loses it when feeling heightened emotions or fighting, side characters tend to have eye shine quite frequently but lose it during serious moments or fights, similar to Guideau. It's a marker showing Ashaf, of all the characters, is the one with the shadiest intentions or bleakest outlook on life, the light is literally gone from his eyes.
but no, the studio decided to take a interestingly stylized manga and butcher it into generic mid anime artstyle, it's f-cking insulting to the author.

right, for witch number 2, we have an old hag on a murder rampage driven by insecurity and inferiority rooted from unfulfilled desire. moreover, collateral damage expands and civil unrest aggravates as a result of the police's insistence to solve a case beyond their control or that of human capability, in fact. swallow your prides and let the Paladin Corps handle it, so female victims don't have to explode out of their eye sockets or chests. this does serve good external conflict, however, but remains to be shallow of an excuse unless fleshed out.

Guideau is a serious version of Power from Chainsaw Man. This anime needs to be watched at night, just like Call of the Night for a better experience.
