If you're male, do you use an anime girl avatar for your profile picture? If so, why?

| Well, my profile pic isn't from an anime, its from an old visual novel (and card game) on the PC-98 called Ace of Spades. Its a trashy hentai game, but has really nice art and a killer soundtrack. I'm a big fan of chiptune music and retro anime artwork, so it fits the tone of what I like pretty well (plus I'm into trashy stuff). Here's some tunes from the game: |

| Because they secretly identify themselves as cute little anime girls. Wussies. Jokes aside I guess the purpose and meaning of avatars has changed over time. Back in the day people used avatar meant photos that somewhat represent/resemble your own self. Dudes used to put relatively masculine avatars on their profile. Same thing goes with girls. Nowadays people use photos that they find pretty or funny. That's it. In this website guys like cute anime girls, so they just slap it in their profile. |

| Non-anime fans ask why men use cartoon profile pictures. Some people only ever use a picture of themselves for all accounts. Different strokes for different folks. Personally, I already know what I look like so I don’t need to see myself on every account. I use the picture that I want to look at for my accounts. That said, look what happened on MAL when I changed things up and used pics of myself instead. People got jealous. People complained. So there is no winning. Just use the picture that you like. |
