| "What are your top 10 favourite genres on Anime Plus?" Is statistic more important than what you actually like? For example I love space opera but there aren't enough of those to make a dent on my statistics. Also if anime.plus is to be believed my second most liked is psychological, which is not true. It just happens that most of the detective shows also have a psychological tag (sometimes even not deserved). |

Adventure, Sci-fi, Mystery are legit among my favorites but so are Psychological, Fantasy, Sports, Military and Space. But the way the weighted scores on MALGraph work and how big a role the total number of shows from the genre counts, they can't compete with the huge, vague genres above even though their statistical average score would put them in the top 10. Also in some cases a genre is among my favorites and I love it, but I'm more critical towards it because of how much I like it and how much I've seen from it, making it more hit or miss than other genres. In the end favorites are more complicated than just raw statistics. I think the most accurate representation of how I feel about genres is taking the mean score, not the weighted score, but only count genres where I've seen 100 titles or more. That list would look like this: 1. Seinen 2. Drama 3. Shounen 4. Mystery 5. Sports 6. Military 7. Space 8. Historical 9. Psychological 10. Adventure That feels somewhat accurate. |
