| I used to be subscribed to him, but he just kept getting more smug and pretentious with each new video. He always seems to put himself on a pedestal no matter what he's talking about. It's like he believes his opinions are facts and that ruins his credibility as a critic. And his constant shilling got real annoying real fast. If you want actual good videos about anime, I suggest Gigguk, Super Eyepatch Wolf, and Aleczandxr. They feel a lot more genuine and passionate about what they watch and the videos they make. |

| His tone sucks. He's really negative. He couldn't argue his way out of a paper bag. Punchable face, no redeeming qualities. Uninteresting content, hops on trends. I recall one time everyone was talking about Konosuba, so he started making videos about that. He does those anime op videos, which is like, I already watch op vids there's nothing you can say to make me watch an unenjoyable thug talk about ops. I've watched enough of his vids to know he has bad content, and then somehow he gets 400k views. It's suspicious. There's nothing clickbaity in his video titles or pictures that would say 'you like anime, watch this', yet he gets tons more views than better anitubers? I could watch an animeman video and he would ramble on but he has a positive vibe and happy demeanor. His take down of the CR awards was epic. I couldn't get enough of all 24 mins of that video. Gigguk's hot streak ended recently for me, with his analysis of 'girls going to antarctica' and jumping on the nostalgia train too fast, but usually he has the best content. Digi had that mediocrity video with the excellent editing, like I couldn't even believe it, omgosh. His argument was bad and wrong, but I was just happy seeing images of my fave anime. And yet Mother's Basement will routinely get as much or more views? How tf does that happen? Maybe it's because he's an edgelord. |

| His analysis/recommendation videos are fantastic, but the way he expresses his opinions is really annoying. Also, his stances on some topics (like recently with the whole legal streaming situation) are very dumb and they come across very "oh I'm right and whoever doesn't think the same is stupid"-y, which is very obnoxious and makes you want to disagree with him that much more. On top of that, the way he constantly resorts to beating dead horses (SAO, A-1, etc.) really reminds me of Digibro, which is never a good thing in my book. |

Egh, there's a lot more to why his channel is garbage than just "He thinks there's no excuse for piracy" (which he does not think that's the case and he's demonstrated that himself, mind you - he's perfectly okay with pirating anime from places like Netflix and his anti-piracy stance has been explicitly shown to trace exclusively back to CR and CR alone, making it, in a nutshell, more accurate to say "MB sees no excuse for pirating anime his sponsors have licensed" which is where one of the main issues lies with his stances on piracy) and a few of them have been expressed by more than just me in this thread. Hell, a lot of it isn't even necessarily related to piracy and would be applied regardless of his stance on that. He has a ton of issues communicating his ideas and justifying them in a meaningful or even rational way when it comes to his analysis videos and I take much greater issue with that than him basically being a human billboard. He could be just as bent on being a shill and still provide good content and it'd be forgivable - it's just, y'know, he doesn't. I wrote a miniature novel about some of those alone earlier in this thread, if you want to take a look. By being so reductive about it, you're pretty much strawmanning why people have issues with his channel - not even just the piracy videos, but the whole plethora of issues that people have expressed with it. And personally, I don't give an iota of a fuck if he's anti-piracy by itself, the issue lies much more with the "why" and "how" he has that opinion - not "what" the opinion itself is. Pretty much sums up my feelings on it. I'm not very fond of Digibro either, but I'd rather watch one of his videos than Mothers Basement. |
