Remember, more than anything, Midoriya wants to be a great hero. It's a hero's job to help others and prioritize others over him. But the main reason why Midoriya help Todoroki is because Todoroki was pissing him off. When your competitor is not trying his best when fighting, it makes you look bad. If Midoriya won without Todoroki using is right, it still wouldn't prove that Midoriya is stronger than Todoroki.

BONES! damn you've done it again! stunning animation! beautiful episode!

-"Quirks are just physical abilities"
Quite interesting that both Kachann & Deku have that same mindset. Love how we getting a glimpse of bakugou analysing.
- More proof that Endeavor's a shitty father. Todo's backstory is so sad, i just want to hug that little todo to bits.
-All might keeps on inspiring little kids! I just love this dude!
-DEKU!!! f*king MIDORIYA!!! He is truly the definition of a hero, going that far saving his opponent...
-okay, that ripped Todo tho...
Glad that he finally utilize his fire side, and has reflected that his quirk is his own power, that it is a natural part of our body regardless where it comes from.

"message of this fight" in a fight the only message is how can i defeat and kill the enemy as fast as possible, not talking to him about feeling good with yourself, accepting your powers as your own etc.. i'm not a stupid child who wants the power of friendship and everyone to be nice, i want to see them fight and kill each other like a real fight is suppose to be, guess wrong anime for me then

He was helping him because he didn't want to win against Todoroki only using half his strength. He wanted to deserve the win and not win a fight he didn't deserve to win. Plus he already used more than 100% of his power, otherwise he couldn't have continued fighting with those serious injuries. Plus if he used a 100% punch directly on Todoroki, he probably would've died or gotten seriously injured. That's why he held back while punching him and only used 100% against his ice attacks. At least I think that's the reason.

Plus, Deku was definitely still trying to win. But he wanted to win against Todoroki using everything he's got.

yeah i know Midoriya stays consistent with his altruistic nature and how he thinks of others before himself etc.. it just pisses me off, when someone is in a fight or even a sport match you just want to win no matter what, if the other guy is not at 100% even better the important is to be the champions

Todoroki is OP! This episode was way more epic than I expected! A cool character with a flaming spirit. Great Job BASED BONES!
Rewatched it again and I could say this was one of the best episodes of the year yet. Those fight mechanics and deku being a madman just elevated and exploded into an epic conclusion! This is how episodes should be adapted. Stunning. Flawless. Well executed.

FINALLY! Wonderful adaptation of Deku vs Shoto! Always loved the message fight gave about not letting pre-existing factors like your bloodline becoming a detriment to who you want to be and how you're valued as a person. Unfortunetely, something Endevour still doesn't get... Dude straight is top 10 worst fathers ever. Anyways, episode flowed well with it's use of flashbacks and exchanges in diologue/action! PLUS ULTRA!/10

Your comment implies Izuku could've won if he hadn't encouraged Todoroki. That's False. The only reason Izuku even lasted as long as he did was because he wanted Todoroki to stop being a half-ass while becoming a hero(no pun intended). I don't even know why you're complaining when we still got a well executed fight with a flashy conclusion...

I really think Midoriya should have won this match. It just so annoying to see him lose after how much effort he put into this match, while Todoroki just was lucky to be born with his abilities. Still the match hyped me so much, the backstory of Todoroki wasn't interesting to me at all :c

Bones is doing such a great job with this adaptation. The animation and art quality is amazing and the music placement is top-notch as usual. Content-wise, this is the best this arc gets so I'm glad Bones delivered with this. The last attack's sakuga animations were glorious. And with 'You Say Run' as the music, the scene couldn't have been any better. Anyways, Midoriya was a mad man to hurt arms like that and still go, and Todoroki was a beast with this fire powers.

I think it's fine that he lost. If this was any other Shounen, the MC would've probably won. However this also shows that Deku still has a long way to go and that he has to gain more control over One for All to keep up with Todoroki. Deku obviously is weaker than Todoroki in his current state because he is injuring himself after each punch.

Tbh, I like it more if the MC doesn't win each fight and sometimes loses as well. Plus it would be boring if Deku would've lost to Bakugou in the end. Idk but him losing against Bakugou would've been even more predictable since Bakugou is his rival.

Pretty good episode although I must say Deku's All for one is pretty boring sometimes I don't really see how he's supposed to grow combat-wise other than being able to control it and not damage himself. Todoroki's backstory confuses me I mean his mother poured boiling water on his face, I get his father is an ass and assaults her but after what she said and did they're both bad parents. Was cool to see Todorokis left side in use, I wonder if he will forfeit his place because of that probably not since Deku's body is all messed up anyway.

The episode was good but I can't help but feel like something was missing, and I'm a little surprised Deku didn't come up with some sort of plan like he did for all the other fights and events he seemed to just wing it and focused more on yelling at his opponent.

I get what you mean and your not wrong. But people have different ways of thinking. Some just care about winning and others care about winning while proving they're the best. You will see the consequence of what happens when someone wins a fight where the opponent is not at their 100% sometime later in the series.

More than anything, Midoriya wants to be a great hero and his priorities are set out better than anyone else. Most of the UA students care simply about going up the rankings, but they totally forget of what it means to be a true hero. Instead of thinking about helping others, they care about having a better image. Even goody two shoes characters like Uraraka and Iida wasnt to become the best is so that they can help or make their family look better. Note that the first episode was called "Izuku Midoriya: Origin" and this episode is called "Shoto Todoroki: Origin". Just like Midoriya prioritized saving others more than anything in the first episode, Todoroki felt the same way in this episode. And the whole theme of "what a hero needs to prioritize the most" is something that will be covered later.

There's a scene in the episode which shows her trying to protect a five-year-old Todoroki who was seemingly hit in the stomach by his father in some cruel training. And bear in mind Endeavor was the No. 2 Hero, much stronger and more muscular than even most pro Heroes who are already stronger than civilians. She stepped in to protect her son only for Endeavor to hit her. Given the polite Japanese speech she uses when speaking to him, the fact that he hits her even in front of her own children, and the fact that the marriage was arranged, it's heavily suggested she never loved him and was constantly abused to the point of being terrified of him. She had no help and her pleas to her parents fell on deaf ears, old Japanese traditions come before the interests of their children... All she had were her children and given they started to look like Endeavor as the grew up and fell under his influence that drove her mentally and emotionally unstable... well, even more so than before. It's really not that confusing. She began seeing her own children as monsters and snapped when she saw Todoroki's left side peering from the door. She's currently in a physiatric hospital.

Holy crap, was this episode an absolute blast to watch, no pun intended! =P

Midoriya's resolve to helping Todoroki to stop his half-assed way of fighting him so that he would use his fire abilities was epic and admirable of him to do. At least that way, we got an excellent final blow to an already excellent fight.

Endeavour really is a dick of a father though. His "training" on a 5 year old Todoroki is nothing more than child abuse and he also hospitalised his wife after she completely snapped and poured boiling water on him. Worst parent of the year award should go to him already. ¬_¬

Either way, Midoriya might've lost the fight, but he was able to help Todoroki to find his resolve. That's what it means to be a hero, and that's why Midoriya is such an enjoyable character to watch as he continues to grow and get stronger, along with the people around him.

Looking forward to the next batch of matches now. It won't match the intensity of this one, but it'll be great regardless. =D

Holy shit. Yeah that's fight of the year at the moment.

The raw emotions, the amazingly animated usages of half and half and One for All, the fucking final clash that airshook the entire stadium. If Izuku could control One for All maybe the match would've been different. Hell he was even getting to that point. But it makes sense he loses at this stage. He can't keep hurting himself and expect everything to be good.

Midoriya still has plenty of room to grow

Nakamura once again saved anime. You could see the pain Izuku was when he cracked each ine of his finger bones. You could feel Todoroki's blazing left hand sifting through the cold air. This scene was magnificent. 👏
