Oh, crap, you're right. That was a pretty important conversation they had by the seaside dock that comes into play later for sure. Eeck.

Volume 8 chapter 1 at around page 44 (25 in online scans). Ash tells Eiji how he views his own life and how he pictures his death will be by
It is a pretty important conversation that shows that Ash is mentally in a really dark place and how his character develops later to get out of that mental state. So the argument that he and Eiji had did not just get resolved as easy as the anime makes it seem.

You think we can await new opening and ending now? Don´t get me wrong, I absolutely love these, but they usually change halfway the series.

Same! I'm looking forward to a new opening song and I hope it's a good fitting opening. For the ending song though...it's simply perfection and changing it will make me sad

Two people quoted my comment but for some reason I can’t see them? maybe they deleted it, but if you’re looking for the cut conversation it’s in volume 8. ash and eiji are looking at manhattan and making up from their argument and ash talks about his feelings towards his own death. I hate that they cut this out because it’s an important part of his characterization and puts their argument into perspective as well and is also important for their relationship. That’s why I’m so frustrated that it was cut out.

ohh ok I guess my phone was just glitching. but yeah I know they have to cut things out because it’s only 24 episodes but this is so frustrating to me and honestly I’m considering dropping the anime for a little while. first time watchers might enjoy it more though, but I reccomend to everyone to read the manga.

that conversation after the argument left both ash and eiji with more complex thoughts and feelings than shown in the anime as you said and UGH it’s so frustrating.

I don't think you two should stress over this change. The next episode's title is called "The Snows of Kilimanjaro." Plus, from looking at the five screencaps provided for episode 13, the scene on the pier is also there so it looks like they're going to have that conversation in flashback format.

I hope so. When I originally watched the episode, I didn't realize it was cut because I thought the conversation happened a bit later but I had remembered wrong. Then Hiatus reminded me it was missing and I realized it was a big part of Ash's character arc and hoped that maybe it would be done in flashback form but wasn't sure that's even possible. I hadn't seen the preview for next episode yet so it's good to know it will likely be included since later on it is referenced again. That's still a strange narretive format to include it though.

oh really? I’m glad. I was hoping they’d show it at some point but couldn’t see how it’d make sense at any other point really, so thanks

Sing Soo-Lin is so cute. Since Skip is gone, he will be my new son in this series. They killed off most of my faves: Skip, Griffin and Shorter. I hope they don't kill off Sing since he'll be my new fave.

Also, I liked that little encounter between Golzine and Ash at the airport. Golzine and his men couldn't do anything while Ash taunted them.

They finally showed the group of black men from the opening. I was wondering last episode if they were going to show them since they had their own scene in the OP just like Sing Soo-Lin and his gang did. Cain looks like he would never let Golzine or Arthur control him, he looks like the type who would rather die and even give up his own life for his men but I could be severely wrong. However, I don't want any manga readers telling me either. I'm trying to read the manga but I'm way behind and don't want any spoilers. I had to block a lot of people commenting in reaction videos because they were fucking annoying.

Damn, Ash is cold-blooded killing those who refused to join him but he's changed. I'm sure he has killed more people in the past and I'm not talking about the monster who raped him as a child. He has probably killed many enemies who opposed him in the past.

That little Halloween scene was nice. Those two guys in Ash's team, I don't know their names but the big black guy and the skinny white guy with pink hair, they seem like the doofuses of his group and I hope they never die. Again, please don't spoil me if it's going to happen. I've accepted the fact that lots of good characters are going to die but I want to see it as it happens in the Anime for myself.

I hope they reveal that girl who was killed when Ash was 14 years old.

hahaha now that Eiji knows Ash's scary past about pumpkins, he tries to provoke him by showing the pumpkin in front of his face and humiliate him in front of everyone XD Eiji must have guts but he's very lucky to have Ash as his friend or else things might get ugly!

Nice episode! ^^ Can't wait for the next one. Let the war between the gangsters begin...

Well, as expected, that conspiracy between Golzine and the government is huge.

It took me a bit by surprise that Cain agreed with Ash that easily I mean, without getting anything in return. Even more when they clarified he hated white people and stuff... I don't know, the whole situation was solved way easier than I thought it would be.

That aside, I liked this episode. Ash is starting to doubt about who he is now since he needs to use more violence to suppress violence itself. But at least, he has Eiji who works as a support for him.

So, Ash vs. Arthur is coming next episode. I'm really looking forward to seeing that.

Ash spends his time getting rid of any potential enemies, not giving a single one mercy. I can’t say I feel sorry for these people as they’ve all done terrible things, but as Eiji says, it’s not really like Ash to be killing like this.

Lol the Halloween party was cute. Pumpkins everywhere! It’s nice to see how much Ash and Eiji’s relationship has progressed since the beginning of the series.

Looks like Ash wants to deal with Arthur once and for all. I imagine the next episode is gonna be all about their fight. Looking forward to it!

This episode had a strong argument about America's political approach to Middle East. I have to admit I'm disappointed to see that nobody initiated a discussion about it.

You're not the first to mention how the political aspects of Banana Fish that are based on real life events (although it was Central America in the manga and Project MKUltra) are not discussed on here. It was brought up briefly in the BF is underrated thread. I tried to discuss it in another forum and noticed just the lack of interest of topics related to the real world. It's weird.

There it goes again, another bittersweet episode with the Halloween wholesomeness and then the sudden sad shift towards the end.
I'm really with the idea of Eiji leaving to Japan, at least for the time being, a great gang war is about to start, and if he's going to stay with Ash, he's only going to cause trouble again, just like Max was saying, innocence is probably the greatest weakness of Ashlan, who would have known, for a fearless lynx like himself. I'm afraid Max was only foreshadowing the inevitable, I hope not.

Dino's face when Ash appeared was so priceless and satisfying.

I also agree with Ash -- Natto is just one of those flavors that gross me the fuck out. I eat just about anything too, but man that stuff is so grosssss.

Ash's explanation of their operations in the middle east and their hands in drugs and money is all too real. They do a great job showing the government and the underground society's power struggle (and partnership) with strong world leaders.

As the ED starts to play again, we see Ash leaving his place with his friends still asleep, walking alone before while it's still dark out, onto continue on with the life that has taken ahold of him and not let go. You then start to think how it was only at a very young age where Ash had some semblance of a normal life, and that Eiji was the one to make him taste a little of what that was like once again.

Looking through this thread, it seems like a rather impactful scene from the manga was cut. I hope that's not the case, and that it has simply been relocated elsewhere in an upcoming episode.
