Good ending. Overrated Watanabe is a master when it comes crating really good endings, too bad his Anime are episodic and rely mostly on aesthetics rather than plot.

I think just too see How both Jin and Mugen Survived their Fatal Injuries they have been taken throughout this arc, would be MUCH BETTER than just let it be... HOW IN THE HELL COULD THEY SURVIVED THAT?!
but let's say they are alive, and it continues as it is, the scene where they are splitting is actually make sense because they will come back together all the time no matter what, like, *HAVE YOU NOT WATCHED THE SHOW?*
They already know they will meet again, so they can just say goodbye and after day or two they will just meet up again.
9/10 beacuse they are alive and they should be dead, at least fuu should be alive

Good anime, fun to watch from beginning to end, as far as the end really prepared me for the death of one of the 3, luckily it was not like that ... It leaves me with the emptiness that they did not continue to travel together and the doubt if they could meet again later, I hope yes.

I feel the ending is kind of misinterpreted or it has some other way to look at it. Following the realistic and tragic approach of the whole series like the man who was not accepted because he looked like a monster gets killed and even the boy stealing for his mother’s medicine is not able to accomplish anything and dies. The ending I interpret is that both mugen and jin dies following their suicide attacks and accomplishing their goal of helping fuu in their seemingly purposeless lives. Whatever is shown forth is a mere dream that fuu unable to take the burden of sorrow makes up or dreams so as to keep moving forward. Or maybe mugen and jins dream cause they finally find a family and happiness which they so long sought out for. Another evidence supporting this ending is the servant who is killed by kagetori and yet appears in the end along with them.
Feel free to disagree and prove me wrong.

I said it before, but this series didn't play with the hip hop aesthetic nearly as much as I thought it would, or wanted it too. Wasn't expecting it to be as anachronistic as Afro Samurai or anything, but I did think it'd play with it a bit more.

And since it's kind of a mandatory comparison, yeah, not as good as Cowboy Bebop, but I wasn't really expecting it to be. I was hoping it'd give the same sense of attachment to the characters, but it didn't quite get there.

I still enjoyed it, even if it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting.

I dont know why but I kept getting teary eyed at different parts in this episode, when fuus dad said his final words, when jin came back, when jin and mugen were laid there and jin said that he had made friends for the first time and at the ending when they went separate ways. I didn't actually cry, but at each of these parts I felt my nose sting, a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I felt kind sad that its over. even if it makes sense that they had to go their separate ways it still is sad. this anime when above and beyond what I thought it was. not every episode was amazing. but fuck, this anime definitely knows how to get you to make a connection with the characters in such a special way.it feels like you went on the journey with them, as a fourth character in the group. I kinda just ranted but I hope yall understand how this has left me feeling and I hope you feel the same TwT

Is that it then? :(

.. as the credits ended I was hoping they'd meet again, maybe it wasn't shown to us, but they surely must've bumped into each other like they always did so far..

I enjoyed the series, expected more from the final episode but it's was good for what it was. So.. it has come to an end, the credits made me a little "ahh, so, is this it". Although there was always something underwhelming or superfluous, it is obviously one of a kind series with the fresh concept of fusing the modern idiosyncrasies with the history which made it interesting, and the general light-heartedness of the show. I like that there's no real tight plot. And, a lot of memorable scenes pop into my mind as I think about it.. enjoyed the soundtrack a lot, never skipped the ending song.

Hmm, so sayonara

Ending did manage to give me the warm fuzzies, series is consistent about the trio always ending up side-by-side, even in the final climactic battle of the whole show when it looks like they're being backed into a corner they end up instead bumping each other's shoulders :').
Some random end-of-show thoughts:
The juxtaposition of Fuu's naivety but ability to express her emotions with Jin & Mugen's world-weathered maturity but inability to communicate feelings has to be the strongest aspect of this show. The writing weaves around this theme so well so many different times. Second best thing... the soundtrack. Lots of really cool production choices. Some of the anachronisms, like Mugen's breakdancing style, were really cool. Others, like the baseball episode and the Andy Warhol reference, were just silly and not that interesting. Oh, and I guess Koza's scream at the end of episode 14 is just gonna ring into the aether forever, we got absolutely no resolution for that plotline. And while we're on the weaknesses of the show, too many one-dimensional, pure evil scumbag characters, got to the point where I didn't care who Mugen was beating up because (1) I knew they couldn't touch him, and (2) there would be nothing memorable about the antagonist at all.
Gotta resist writing a mini-review here THIS IS NOT THE PLACE heheh..
Good show was good, happy I watched it, glad it exists... still prefer Bebop

Superb ending. For the most part, I was pretty dead set (haha) on believing that Mugen and Jin would end up dead by the end. Though, in my defence, the odds of that happening were ∞:1.

One thing I don't see too many people talking about is how this series manages to implicitly depict a journey. I love the way the locales in this show transition from being rural to metropolitan, which makes the moment where Fuu, Mugen and Jin reach the verge of Japan that much more stunning and beautiful.

The reason I enjoyed the background elements of this show more than the main attraction is probably because of how underwhelming it is. If I was tasked with making artistic liberty: the show, I would run as far as I could with the concept. Samurai Champloo only has the historic inaccuracies as cute little cosmetic details, rather than as something significant enough to base the title around.

Probably the biggest takeaway for me is the music. Hip hop is a genre I hold a bit of animosity towards, so for me to actively search out some of the music used in this series must mean that the soundtrack is a 10/10 masterpiece.

So, let me recap, each time Fuu is separated she is almost if not ends up in a soon to be whore situation....yep...best ending possible... Sorry, I'm put off by anime (manga, novels) were they show how realistically and brutally woman was treated yet protagonist is safe (like with the Christian village...seriously...2 clear bandit type of man just walk away from unconscious Fuu instead of having their way with her...whatever)

I guess no squeal...despite surely the government would send troops after them until death (maybe this is the reason they separated? Since Fuu can't be discovered if she isn't with the 2 samurais)

I'm really amazed the show holds up after rewatching again. I still enjoyed a lot as much as I did when I watched it 3 years ago. It's just a shame the show sorta fell off after the episode 11. That zombie episode was really out of place and is probably the weakest episode in the whole show. But damn, the music and animation is pretty solid. Same with the english voice acting.

It might just be me but I really liked the ending. I love how Fuu got the last laugh and that we get to see the trio on their own reflecting on their journey. Then just off screen, they'll meet each other again and travel once more.

Overall i really liked this series but what the hell was that ending?! Why didn't they stay together!
Jin said he finally found what he was looking for all his life... and then went off on his own anyway, Mugen finally found people who loved him and Fuu CANNOT survive alone! It didn't make any sense for them to split up at the end!

Loved the show until the ending ruined everything. How the hell did Mugen and Jin survive? Why the hell would they part ways AND in such a whatever manner?

Like the only way this ending makes sense is that the only survivor is Fuu and it was all just her dream/imagination of the perfect ending.

I genuinely thought they were gonna kill off Jin and Mugen but thank god they didn't. That was a rather well wrapped up ending. It also made sense for them to separate as they might be hunted down by the government if they were together. They are wanted after all.

This show is an 8.5/10 for me. I LOVE the three characters. The soundtrack done by Nujabes and Fat jon really blended into the series. Who knew that hip-hop in a samurai anime would be such a good combo?

Eh, wasn't a fan of the ending.
In all honesty, episodes 11(gambling one where jin falls in love), 15 (yatsuha) and 1 were the best episodes. Episode 19 when they first met the blind lady was also pretty good. Everything else was meh.

Binge watched in 4 days, could have been even less but luckily i have a good day job. It deserved to receive its acclaim and i'm glad it was released with italian dub even if according to the net it still remained somehow into obscurity because not a single television channel ever aired it. Couldn't also stop thinking about Tatewaki Kuno and Rick Sanchez when Mugen was speaking because they all belong to the same great voice actor (someone i managed to briefly meet in person in 2017)

Honestly i was prepared for the worst and expected for everyone except Fuu to pass away. Still think it was improbable for both of them to survive all those swords and firearms wounds, but i'm not complaining. Fuu's journey ended as predictable, but it doesn't mean it was bad. And i'm fine with the three main characters parting ways.

Totally going to suggest this show to my few friends.

A point that really disappointed me in this ending was that I didn't like the way Fuu and her father's conversation was done, I think they could have had a lot more impact at that time. She didn't even want to wait to see if he said anything. At the moment when Fuu's father was going to be killed, he said some things, which could also have been said at a different time and in a different way, in order to give more impact to the speech and consequently to the viewers. It gave the impression that the main objective (which was for Fuu to talk to her father) was very simple and boring, and that it was a huge waste of time.
When Jin came back, I was so relieved. I was also very worried, I thought that Mugen and Jin were going to die in these last battles that took place, but luckily, they both got out alive. One epic moment there was was the battle between Mugen and Jin (in which I also thought they were both going to die) which ended with each of their katanas broken, and both of them smiling, meaning (in my view) that they really consider themselves friends. Towards the end of the episode, each of the three followed a different path, which I found interesting, however, I would like them to time skip and show what happened in the future, or summarize what their lives were like.
In short: The ending has good and bad parts, so I classify it as average/nice. One downside is not having a time skip to show what happened to each of the three. Another negative point is the conclusion of the main objective, which was very disappointing, had no impact for me and could have been done in many different ways so that this did not happen. But there were really cool, emotional and impacting moments, like Jin's return, which I was really surprised, I just thought he would appear a few seconds before he appeared, and he still came back different, both in appearance and in his way of be, as if it had gone through some change, which had an even greater impact. Another moment that was also very impacting was the fights that Mugen and Jin had, especially when there is an explosion near Mugen and Jin is stabbed, as it creates a doubt whether they are both okay or not. If someone has become attached to either of the two characters, they must have been quite nervous at the time.

Good anime. Solid ending. I liked almost all of it. Just a couple weaker episodes. Other than that, wow. We just don't get anime like this anymore.

I give it the "sit and stare dumbfounded at the end credits" badge. In other words, the seal of approval. It's an anime that makes you go "wow, it's over...." rather than "okay all done on to the next anime!" You kind of just sit there and appreciate it for a little longer.

It's been a long time since I felt this kind of bittersweet sadness. The kind of sadness you feel when you know you're never going to see these beloved characters again. Somewhere along the way, I developed a bond with these characters, like they did for each other.

Cowboy bebop is still slightly better overall. But my attachment to the characters from Samurai Champloo is stronger. Many of the side characters from each of the stories ended up dying. But I still remember them all.

7/10. An anime that will probably be on my mind for quite some time.

Finally finished it. I have to say futility is a commen theme in watanabe works. I didnt care one bit about last minute "oh they are gone die scare" and them surving.
Ofcourse last few episode were better but its just most episode were
just that low. Even for last 3 episode, villan were just some random guy popped out of nowwhere and bit inserted into both MCs backstory. In the end water effect are not enough to justify threat of some random episodic villan.

It total cringe where ever this show tries to do american mimicry. Best episodes are the some of the arc consisting of 2-3 episode. But in the end obvious flaws can be even in those episode structure and pattern. Overall it was boring and episode to episode inconsistent characterization can be seen (eg - jin was quite ackward type in one episode then in another he was lover boy and in another he was a playboy running into brothels)

Animation and sound effect were quite good. But thats not enough to prevent me from having a futile experience. Maybe it would have worked lot better if episode count was lower (at one point for eg ep 22, I felt they ran out of idea and making some shit up to meet up the episode quote). Alteast it ended with 3 of them going seperate ways. That leaves some accomplishment since they were desperately trying to do that for many episode unsuccessfully.

Also I noticed old man retainer was just as immortal as jin and mugan.

I guess if this is the past then indeed watanabe indeed improved his story telling with Terror in Resonance. But that makes me not want to watch cowboy bebop even more

Honestly, this ending was anticlimactic, even for the style of the series. Since we did all the way, let's compare it to Cowboy Bebop. If we change the latter show's ending a tiny bit (you know what I mean), it would still be fantastic.

What did we get here? Jin was floored for probably the 10th time in a row, and only won his fight by tanking a sword to his core. And Mugen wasn't better this time around, defeating the guy with the kusurigama with the unlikeliest gambit ever, only to get shot AND survive that with barely any medical help during the Bakumatsu period, just wow.

And then everyone goes into a random direction without the slightest hint of what they're planning to do next? E.g. Jin's got to wait probably more than four years until Yatsuha can leave the island, what is he going to do until then? Open a dojo? Open a grilled squid stall? He can't and doesn't want to work for the Shogunate. He could become a bodyguard I guess, but we would never know. A few frames worth of animation would be enough to resolve this in a show where ambiguity isn't helping in any way.

7/10 for the samurai theme and the soundtrack, but it can't go beyond that. The show was too random for its own good - again, compare to Cowboy Bebop where almost every episode was building nature of the cast or the story itself in some way. Compare it to stories with no actual plot like Mushishi and it again falls short, as each of Mushishi's episodes was a moral lesson about the nature of the humans or their world. This show was having fun, which is fine, but even just as a project aiming to mostly push the envelope I don't find it amazing. Just a nice watch.

Impermanence is part of life, am I right? But wow, what an ending. The show saved the most intense fights for last, and it paid off.

I found it funny how show kept continually tricking me into thinking Mugen and Jin would both die, so I laughed out loud when I found out they somehow both survived their seemingly impossible situations. I didn't laugh out of incredulity though, but rather genuine appreciation for the show. Samurai Champloo has been constantly shoving destiny and fatalism down our throats through its portrayal of Mugen and Jin, and the fact that they both survived makes everything come together gratifyingly. Was it luck? Nah. T'was destiny.

Honestly, they're such a lovable trio, and I felt so attached to them. Seeing them part ways was bittersweet, but I found it acceptable since I suppose they each felt a sense of closure upon completing their journey. Seriously though, I can't help but wish they traveled together forever. But life is life, and in the end, they can't. It's this exact feeling of resigned yet sweet melancholy that best encapsulates the tone of the show as a whole. I just wish there were more scenes of them together in the aftermath of all that chaos conveying how deep their bond was or hammering in how their journey was, in fact, complete. The ending was simply a little too abrupt for me, and left me unsatisfied. I just wanted more closure, you know? Mugen, Jin, and Fuu felt closure - now give me some too! Now I have to fill into my mind what happened between them. Still, it's overall a fitting ending. Could've benefitted from more exposition regarding Fuu's father, but the show gave a passable amount. I still can't believe the show let them Mugen and Jin live, but it made me happy.

And lastly, seeing Jin and Mugen acknowledge each other as friends was great. In the end, they're more human then they thought. In the absurd, violent Edo era, it's a miracle that two ostracized swordsmen could find a cause to throw away their lives for... and yet, they found something. I'll say this again - what a lovable trio.

Phenomenal OST, such slick fight scenes, and so stylish. Its quality varies per episode, but ultimately Samurai Champloo is a great show. At the time I'm writing this, I would give it a rating of ~8.6/10. What an experience!

I think this is the first time I actually feel sad that a anime ended... And honestly even tho they separate at the end Im pretty sure they will actually met again because its their destiny to be together. The entire series everytime they split up they always end up together somehow.

This is probably my favorite anime ever. The music, the action scenes, their friendship, the things they go through and the messages... 10/10

This anime is my childhood, I used to watched at cartoon network, there used to be I program called Toonami and it was only anime series, Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Samurai x, Cowboy Bebop and of course Samurai Champloo and some others too...

This anime marks a very happy moment in my life and to watched again just makes me realize how good it really is, thanks Watanabe, thanks manglobe, thanks Nujabes, Fat Jon, Tsutchie, Force of Nature and to everyone that participated in this anime.

Overall, its a great anime. Binged it in 3 days just because of how much I was enjoying it. Expected a death in the end to make it more bittersweet, but I still like how light-hearted the anime is rather than being serious (e.g. mugen being a goof and careless). Mugen is my favorite character, yet I still like Fuu and Jin too. I definitely preferred this to Cowboy Bebop.
