Why are people hailing this movie as the GOAT? Yeah, it was really good, but 9.39 average score? I thought it was high quality, not transcendent.

Its probably due to time restrictions. The LN will probably look more into their relationship but I still understood why they fell in love with one another.

Came here with medium high expectations based on Makoto Shinkai's previous works which impressed mostly visually. But this is really something different, and completely blew me away. Best movie I watched so far, really deserves it's #1 rank.

Maybe the phone didn't display the year (like my phone) and the day of the year happened to be the same?
Or they just didn't bother to look at the date; why would someone check the date every time they use their phone??? I only check the date only when I forgot the date and I really need to know.

Oh, also, was Mitsuha bisexual? Why did she flirt and want to go on a date with Ms. Okudera? I thought she was just trying to help Taki at first because she thought he liked her, but Mitsuha said she was really hoping to go on that date.

she's not, I think she's just playing around and curious what taki's reaction would be.

Even if they didn't look at the phone, they could have seen at the blackboard or somewhere else that they weren't of the same year. Whatever, it doesn't really bother me.

It actually had a good ending.
The story wasn't that special, they were both funny when they were changing bodies, but apart from the moment she dies the movie didn't have nothing dramatic.
Byousoku 5 Centimeter had more feeling than this one.

Incredible and gorgeous artwork. I could not stop thinking that through out the entire movie. It was hard to pin point any moment where the animation was lacking at all. The transition between every scene didn't make you lose focus to the story at all and the background art is very well drawn. I adore the soundtrack though I think I would take one song out (I believe a song played 4-5 times) but regardless, during the transition scene and montage where the song plays are very well done so it's not a huge complaint.

At first glance and 30 minutes into the movie, the story seemed simple. However that all changes as the movie goes on. Though the story has gotten more complex, it was very well written so it became easy to understand. I loved how well the script was written where you are unsure where or how this movie will end. It swings back and forth from hope to despair in matter of minutes constantly towards the finale.

After getting a roller coaster ride of emotion and suspense, the final few minutes was done very well. It provided closure and not wanting a viewer such as myself, wanting more or leave me with unanswered questions. The soundtrack was carefully picked out and done very well. A lot of the scenes became more intriguing with the soundtrack. Like I said before, this could have been done with 1 or 2 less songs in the movie, but it didn't take anything away from my viewing. My only other complaint about this is how generic looking the main characters, Mitsuha and Taki are. Mitsuha wasn't too bad and I can picture her in my head. Taki on the other hand looked like so many other anime characters that it's hard to not picture him as someone else in my head. (But at least I know their names hehe)

I enjoyed this a lot and in my opinion, this was truly a masterpiece. Perfect yet simple story telling. Great soundtrack and one of, if not, THE most beautiful animation I have ever laid my eyes on. I was in awe with how gorgeous it looked. I also enjoyed the roller coaster of emotions I felt. From entertaining to stressed, hope to despair and happy to sad then happy again. This is simply incredible in my opinion and I will enjoy my 2nd viewing.

10/10.

Wasn't that Yukino from Garden of Words? The teacher on Mitsuha's side...looked just like her. Maybe that's where she went after the events of the other movie.

This is definitely Makoto Shinkai's best film out of all he's done imo...which just goes to show sad/bittersweet endings aren't necessarily good and happy endings aren't necessarily bad.

The storytelling was unique, the pacing was great, and the sci-fi elements didn't feel shoehorned in and felt really natural (the woven strings analogy representing the flow of time was a nice touch). I knew things wouldn't go perfectly and they'd forget each other...but that reunion was amazing. And now it's all remembering lost memories from here.

10/10 from me...possibly a favorite. I hope this film becomes a big success, even internationally. It was inspiring to watch this movie. Strings of fate can intertwine just by bumping into someone on the train or by stopping to say hello. Kimi no Na wa is a masterpiece.

Shinkai fucking outdid himself on this one. Didn't thought it could get better than 5cm. Hot damn even though I went into this one with high expectations, he actually went above it.

Really looking forward to whatever his next work is. Hopefully he's not going to animate more useless commercials....

I'm glad that I watch this movie though its on 480p only. Visuals were damn good, reminds me of 5cm/s, my very first shinkai film. It was entertaining trough its humor and sad scenes, despite the flaws, this film move me. I'm glad they met at the ending although they have no memories of each other, but I guess there fate is still tied thats why they feel like they know each other, well can't help it , its supernatural film, so yeah.

They were going to school. Date is pretty important there and it usually mentioned/written somewhere multiple times through day. Unless Japanese schools work on completely different level and don't have shit like deadlines or tests.

Has anyone heard Aimer's Choucho Musubi?

When I was watching the entire film I cant help but feel that her song was so apt for the movie ! Especially on the strings of fate and how things unfolded in Kimi no Na Wa.

Really wished her song could have been in some part of the movie. Anyone else noticed the same or am I alone on this?

to all the people arguing why they didn't notice the difference in years haven't you guys ever been students? I remember being in school we had to date everything from tests to HW so doing that for an entire year and then suddenly the year is now 2017 but even i sometimes put 2016 just out of habit since i did it for an entire year. So I don't think its too out the realm of possibility that the characters were just being absent minded like normal people are.

It would be perfect if not that open ending. I guess it's still 10/10 because of how great rest of the movie was, but damn, is it so bad for "artistic value" to give closure instead of cutting scene in half?

This was the movie I waited for almost 10 years and I finally got it.

Kimi no na Wa certainly started slow but it build up pretty strong emotions steadily and by the time we we were shown those poetic and touching contrasts when Mitsuha saw busy Tokyo for the first time and when Taki experienced calmness of rural mountains, at that time I was officially hooked. And what's more, during whole movie nothing really felt forced, everything seemed natural and all was paced just well.

Voice acting was great (well, almost everyone were real actors out of anime industry), visuals simply breathtaking (one have to simply love those fast-forward city timelapses) and the music was also superb.

And by the time the twist main kicked I went almost speechless. I didn't expected it at all (well, I kinda realized their body sharing will stop when the comet leaves the Earth but I certainly didn't expect that it actually

You know the saying that everyone in the world has kindred spirit somewhere? Well, this movie was about it and even more. I like the way they gained their focal points of their and lives and how they were completely influenced by one such strong event. They way they always passed each other and were fruitlessly searching for something meaningful in their lives only to miss it again in blink of the eyes was just so true... as there are literally tons of similiar relatable situations in our daily lives. And this movie was literally the ultimate sum of it.

After strangeness of Hoshi o Ou Kodomo when he tried to imitate Ghibli's style and after slightly better but way too short Kotonoha ni Wa, Shinkai finally returned to the basics and in some moments he even managed to surpass himself to deliver a movie on par with 5 centimeters yet with even more mature way of storytelling.

I'm in awe.

10/10 Piece of gold. Actually, this is only my seventh full score. guess I need to say nothing more.
