Jc's currently doing their job like A1, ultra rush

well i know Souma'll win no matter what, but not the conclusion that makes anime/film fun, it's the Journey/Process, and they skipped it.

It's top 8 (quarter final) but they compressed it like it's just a qualifier match, why not keep the formula from 1st season, to makes it atleast 1 1/2 episode or full 2 episodes.

They should do this like IG did Haikyuu!, we knew no matter what Karasuno'll win the championship, but they made their journey towards that goal almost flawless, full of energy, hype, etc

Read the manga again, those 5 chapters are mostly bloated with Wall of Text and wide shots. The only omitted chapters (rendered as flashbacks) is chapter 63 and the first pages of chapter 64 showing how dominating Alice is in Totsuki which doesn't affect the match at all except cementing her Personality, which was shown in the Breakfast Buffet last season.

Besides that, nothing from the match itself was omitted. Tension? the Manga chapters had barely none for Souma vs Alice.

Remember that JC staff only has 13 episodes (There are multiple variables that affects this, so it's useless to debate on it) Using the old formula for the quarter finals means they're going to waste 8 episodes just to get through that. Meaning 5 left to fit in the semis, the final and the stagiare arc

All we can do is hope that JC Staff adapts it as faithful as possible, and the 1st episode of the 2nd season, was actually a good adaptation despite compromising on some scenes.

Anyway it's more of the same. An average but pleasant shonen. It's good that they are speeding it up.

Nah fren that's not rly true for Shokugeki.

Damn S2 pace is literally triple the end of S1 hahahah. I hope they do the YUUUU GI OHHHHHHH references later hahah.

Just like Jeremy (CinemaSins) said : we dont care about the source. We only care about sh*t that they're presenting right now.

in my mind like this : they gave us a sh*t ton of tensions during not so important matches, so i'd think like this ' oh Souma currenly gonna fight the strongest (arguably) contestant in the entire tournament, so they gonna give their best to makes that episode(s) feels cinematic as usual (or more)'.

Sometimes stay too faithfull to source doesn't give you advantage, if the source doesn't deliver, you're gonna f*cked up too.

13 EPISODES WHY??
This episode seems rushed a bit. I can see why. I expected VS Alice will take at least 2 episodes.
Welp, as long as quality doesn't drop, I'm okay. Don't disappoint me now, J.C.!

At first I decided to let this finish airing and then just marathon it after. But fuck it, I watched this episode and it was so awesome. Been too damn long for this second season to start airing. Guess I'm waiting weekly now.

When I saw the 5 male judges I was like damn I don't wanna see these guys cum. Good thing they decided to show some female orgasmic reactions. But seriously I lold when the other 4 judges danced around like a ballerina

In general while I can agree its noticably rushed, i can't agree with no tension. Or no drama. I felt plenty here, and having her grandpa break down why it wasn't working for her was amazing, and as usual the food provides an emotional climax.

Even if it kind of sped through stuff it had the same feeling as like... Every other shokugeki, I think the adaption is fine so far. :X

Most people seem to believe we will reach the Stagiaire arc but with only 13 episodes I can't really see how they could do that

They teased some of the Stagiaire arc in the PV, so most people assume they'll adapt it aswell.

My hope is they'll just do the first part of the arc and end at the beginning of the second. For now I have faith in JC staff that they will do it as good as they can with the 13 ep's they have. Lets hope!

It's finally here again!!!
I missed this anime so much, and I am glad that it's getting second season so quickly.
Episode was standardly good for this show, and I had a big smile over my face during the whole episode watching again Soma and the rest of the crew animated.
So, I liked this episode, but I just hope that they won't skip too much content later in the season like they skipped part with children in this episode. Of course, they did that because they wanted an interesting and intense first episode, not a little bit too SoL episode. At least, they mentioned that. :D

For not seeing this series for a while now, I loved being thrown right back into the action. Watching Souma completely (pun intended) serve his culinary foes is always awesome, so the fast pace pulled me right in again. I can't wait to see what'll happen next week.

I haven't read the manga, but I hope the fast pace doesn't take itself too far. It'd be a shame if they washed over any more parts of it, like they apparently did with the children's scene. That woulda been a cute thing to see ;-; Oh well.

Oh wow, that's not how I thought this episode would turn out. Considering the pacing, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they managed to complete the whole Autumn Elections in this season.
Great adaptation. Looking forward to seeing more of the foodgams. Also, the Erina x Soma ship should already sail ;)

This was an anime episode? it feelt more like an OVA. I hate the pacing. We started directly in action like it was ep 25 from season 1... is been a fricking year since it ended for God sake...
What i hate the most is that the fact that Souma defeated Alice was a pretty big deal, but this episode didn't make it like that. Alice is one of the most promising and talented first year student, but in this episode it was like she was some unimportant side character. All her tehnics of micro-gastronomy where cut out of the content too, so her dish seemed like totally unimportant. She was a difficult adversary, and Souma had a lot to think and come with a plan, that why the travel to the school that for some reason he mentioned (like WTF?! Why do you even mention content that was cut off from the original story?), was important because it helped him to come up with the plan agaist her.
Do to the rushed pace I feelt no hype, no epicness, no suspense, nothing like in the first season... just peoples cooking and older peoples screaming and making weird noises as reaction.
I am biased obviously, because I am talking about my favorite ongoing manga, but even if I didn't loved the manga so much, I still would fell bad with this adaptation. This is the most important battle, it had Souma, aka the MC in the center, so if they wanted they could had cutt of from Aldini, Hisako, Megumi and others match (trough, they obviously did it there too), and let enought space for this one. Why do studios try rush or butcher anime when they don't have enought money? It would had been so bad to simply adapt just this arc, and let what is next for a potential 3rd season or end it there? it was the best arc to the point anyway... Damn it, other than Shaft and KyoAni no other studio seem to be be trustworthy.
Score for this episode: 3/10

I think Alice's breasts are even bigger this season. I like Alice. She's arrogant, but nowhere near as stuck-up and arrogant as Erina.

Can't wait to see more of Nikumi and Megumi. All the girls are so good-looking in this series.

Now, I understand that everyone is all sorts of hyped for the second seasons, but I have some major concerns.

First, the second season episode begins immediately after the first seasons finale. There are a ton of reasons as to why this is a bad thing, but the number one reason is because it cuts off any way of getting a refresher for those returning to the series. I'm not going to remember everything from an anime I saw last year. I've likely watched around 20 other series since then. They should have at the very least put a short refresher.

Second, the pacing of the episode. I don't think this series has done an episode this quickly paced before. We didn't get to see Yukihira even slightly prepare for this battle, we saw some of it quickly in passing as Yukihira quick fired information at us, but we didn't sit down and go through at least some of the steps with him. Most of the time in the first season we would have some portion of an episode or a whole episode dedicated to sitting down and kind of see where Yukihira was heading before the big day. I really like that about this series. It was nowhere in this episode.

Third, the Cooking Portion and Eating Portion. They clearly put a lot of emphases on the Eating Portion of the episode rather than the Cooking Portion. There's barely any showmanship and we didn't really see the process behind how any of the food was made. It was explained to us, but not shown to us. Like many people will tell you, it's better to show something in a story rather than tell it to the reader/viewer. I'm not entirely sure why they chose to do it this way, but it was not the right call in the slightest. That's my professional opinion anyway. I really hope this isn't something they continue. I want to see more cooking and less foodgasm. The duel between Yukihira and Nikumi is a great example of what I mean. You can really tell how much Nikumi loves to cook meat. In this episode Alice puts tubes of red liquid in a machine, opens a pot of rice, cuts some fish, and then her dish is done...how exciting. Literally nothing else is in between these cuts during her cooking other than some random banter between her and Yukihira. Then they spend the next 17 minutes or so on the Eating Portion. Again, going back to the Nikumi battle the Eating Portion in that episode was around 8 minutes. That's half what this eating portion was. I don't doubt that the Eating Portion in other episodes in the first season during one on one battles was much longer than 8 minutes.

I really hope this episode doesn't represent what one on one battles are going to look like for the rest of the season. I hope this is just a one time experience from this episode to get across how much Alice doesn't actually take joy in cooking and simple sees it as a skill to win with. If it does continue the way it did in this episode I don't doubt for a second that this season will get dropped by a lot of viewers for cutting out one of the bigger things the series is known for

TL;DR: This episode was bad for multiple reasons compared to how things were done in the first season. I hope it doesn't stay that way.

I give this episode a 3 out of 10

Very intese first episode. It was rushed, but it's not like they missed anything too important I'm perfectly fine with skipping the part with the little kids and all Though I personally would have preferred the first few minutes to be more of a build up instead of just rushing right into the match. It was still awesome though! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Autumn Election.

Dang, what does JC Staff have against Megumi? First the Ping-Pong scene and now the scene where she takes care of the children with Souma? (Pretty important scene for them to skip in my opinion cause Souma starts to see that "cooking from your heart" is the key to cooking like Souma's dad is trying to tell him)

Overall decent ep for me. Felt rushed to me too. 2nd season OP doesn't beat 1st season's though

Seriously happy that the anime is back on.....

But WTF is going on with this pacing? The entire episode felt like freaking rushed shit, this is not the Shokugeki that was good in S1. WTF is this animation studio doing or trying to do, ffs.

The entire episode felt lackluster and there was never a moment that was exciting or had even an ounce of the greatness some of the episodes of S1 had.

Amazes me that Iron Chef ended over 15 years ago. This anime's popularity also amazes me! Perhaps I am easily amazed... but with an exhale, glad this show still kicks ass. The face off formula of Iron Chef is what sparked my interest in the show, but the presentation of culinary research/prep/payoff just put it way over the top. I do wish it was another longer run of eps - but hoping each installment fulfills the arc successfully without missing out on the friendships between characters.

Gave the vintage shokugeki vibe :P I am totally fine with rushing if they can maintain the quality. Let's wait and see. We'll get a better idea after episode3-4 as to how much they will stay true to the manga

I don't think they will animate the festival on this season. Most likely it will end with stagiaire arc.I think the tournament will ends at episode 9 may be...

What I loved: Great animation and art! Man, I can't believe how PRETTY this show is :P The ED was pretty energetic and fun as well. One thing I didn't like was how fast the pacing was ... I mean one round was over in the first episode already?! Feels rushed to me. I guess since it's only 1-cour they have to make it speedy :( I was SO excited to see Alice up, I can't help but love her, and I was actually kinda hoping she would win but nope T_T To be honest I was hoping that Souma would actually get kicked out early, but I guess it wouldn't be a shounen anime if that were to happen ... also, did we ever find out who the 8th member is?! :O He/she was hidden in the opening part as well ... I guess we'll have to wait and find out :P Megumi up next against Ryu? Sorry Megumi, I'm gonna have to cheer for Ryu even though I doubt he will win ... MC power OP >_<
