Glad to see there will be more characters then just the main four we met first! It would be cool to meet more violinists too but I assume the show is going to focus on piano at least for the first half. I'm glad I'm watching this show now that's it done, just going episode to episode and don't have to wait haha.

What the hell? It was only two years ago when Arima beat those other 2? He looked like a toddler. Talk about growth spurt. Also that Aiza kid reminds me of that kid from digimon with his ridiculous hair.

Why is everyone apart from Kousei always so angry in this show? It would be nice if they would all chill for one episode at least.

WOW WAIT WHAAAT???! This ep pass by so quickly!!!

I really like this buildup ep, it revolves around Kousei facing his fear to go back up on stage, mainly because of the fact that he's so perfect yet so machine-like according to other people's trash talk. On the other side I actually also liked the 2 top competitor's side of things too. That includes the super Saiyan Meliodas and the red and black girl.

The scene when Kousei and Kaori have their hands on each other was so cute!

Aiza: "Long time no see."
Arima: "Who are you again?" SAVAGE

So Aiza win the last year competition and Emi lost ? (Assuming she joined too) if yes, then why the heck she's so edgy with Arima when she can't even beat Aiza ?

He who smiles in a crisis has found someone to blame.

That cat freaks me out, and this is coming from an avid neko-lover. Watari took that soccer game like a champ. Comforting his teammate after such a loss is exactly what any captain should do. Kousei is really getting into his groove here. He's practicing during class, gym class, everywhere. That's dedication if anything. As soon as I read the line about the cat being fed up with him, I knew it bit/slashed his hand (latter ended up happening) and his mom would get rid of it. Sad, but I can see where his mom is coming from. She's wrong, but I at least understand. Man, people really hate Kousei, huh? Can't say I endorse such hate. Leave my boy alone. Us gym class losers need to stick together. Watari instantly fell asleep, which was pretty funny. Kousei is realizing that everyone gets nervous on stage, which may be a good step towards delivering a rockstar performance. I hope Kousei kicks Igawa and Aiza's asses.

The stray he saw had green eyes in this episode.
In episode 3 it had blue eyes... so it's either not the same stray OR he is projecting Chelsea, his childhood cat with green eyes, onto the stray. (His flashbacks make it seem like the later.)

It's such a small detail, but I couldn't help to notice the difference.

Though it should be understandable, I still think Ryouta crying so dramatically over a soccer match was kinda unnecessary.

Mostly a build-up episode this time. Nothing special to mention besides the terrible comedy and the addition of a new factor in Kousei's trauma regarding a cat he once had. A cat which supposedly left some scars on his hands yet they look as pristine as ever.

The comedic bits often seem out of place, like the scene with Aiza and Emi after Kousei "forgot" about them. I don't mind the comedic art style when it makes sense, when it is a good time for comedy, but I think sometimes it's just out of place. I think that scene could've been better without comedy.

A better episode mostly because it was a build-up one. The cat scenes felt creepy.

I don't get Kaori's line of thinking of bringing Kousei to the park when he's about to start puking

I kinda have a feeling that maybe Watari and Tsubaki will end up for each other...? I mean, they're both jocks that fail to shine at their middle school level, or maybe it's just a stepping stone for them to shine during high school

This anime is so hard to watch. It feels too emotional. That doesn't mean it's bad. I actually like it, but damn, the ending might just make me cry for hours.

skimming through this episode I realized just how much Natsuki Hanae's delivery contributes so negatively to this show. I just can't stand this guys inflection where he seems like he's brutally overplaying the whole part, though that probably has a lot to do with him just being not at all what I envisioned for the role so much as A-1 forcing him onto the project cause they have a raging hard on for trying to promote him in their shows. I think I found yet another thing to avoid when it comes to anime in any case. Note to self, avoid shows with Natsuki Hanae in it from here on out cause he sucks and brings like no personality or distinct quality to any of his roles in anything I've heard. Yuki Kaji is in this now too and I feel bad for calling Hanae the next Yuki Kaji cause listening to the two in the same show I feel that's an insult to Kaji who is definitely leagues better.

At least Saori Hayami kind of made up for it though she could probably act circles around anyone in this show at the best of times. That said a lot of the scenes in this show are still just way too overwrought compared to how they come across in the manga as just kind of more natural. A-1 is really trying so desperately to play this one up as a prestige project yet every single time the awkwardly placed slapstick comedy brings it crashing back down to Earth. Oh well what else is new.
"Avoid shows with Natsuki Hanae in it from here on out cause he sucks and brings like no personality or distinct quality to any of his roles". Hanae then proceeds to be the protagonist in the biggest grossing anime film of all time lmao. Though I agree that Yuki Kajii overall delivers a better performance... Hanae by no means delivers an unwatchable and subsequently avoidable act. He's genuinely good. Does he unnecessarily emphasize and exaggerate in some parts... sure but which seiyuu doesn't, especially early in their careers. Compared to other VA's I've heard in my many years watching anime, Natsuki Hanae is pretty alright in my book.

These new characters seem interesting and I like how they're very diverse with how they represent performance anxiety among the cast
You can even draw parallels to Tsubaki and Watari with how they perform on the field during sports matches

Who are you? What do you wan to convey? Whom are you doing it for? are some important questions which when answered by our self changes the perspective of our thinking on life.
Starting the episode with those questions showed that there will be change in Arima's thinking. He will find out his own self.

Excited for the competition.

I feel like they are taking this competion way to seriously. I mean there's always a next competion and it's not like they will shoot you in the head if you miss a few notes. Please someone help these kids out mentaly. like one of them just straight up asked god for help that is not okay for a 14 year old to do before a PIANO competion. anyways I hope the kids find happines in their next lives cause this one can't be helped any further. If god can't help then neither can I.

The 1st half of the episode was really good in establishing more of Kousei's trauma, especially the meaning of the cat.

DID HIS MOTHER JUST ABANDONED THE CAT? MISTREATING A CHILD WE CAN STILL ENDURE, BUT ABANDONING A CAT? THAT'S WHERE I DRAW THE LINE.
In all seriousness, it's sickning what Kousei's mother did to him, no matter how sick or desesperate she was. She took his only joy (the cat), because the cat scratched him in his hand, which means the cat could detour him from practicing the piano.
My cat is sitting on my lap as I write this, and she's completely against this too!

For the 2nd half, it's curious to see those 2 new rivals so pumped up to see Kousei play. Aiza's voice was familiar to me, and I was like "Wait, is that Yukiné (from Noragami)?" and behold, his voice actor indeed is Yuuki Kaji. And Igawa's voice actress I recognized immediately too (Yor is too iconic I'm afraid).

Let's see how Aiza plays!

Edit: And let's not forget Watari's struggle in the beginning! It seems that this football (YES, FOOTBALL) tournament meant more to him than what other think. It was his last before graduating junior school, so he probably had objectives that won't be fullfilled.
Also, found it funny how Watari fell asleep right when the first contestant played the 1st note. It was instantaneous xD
