Firstly, I am not the type of guy who compares anime and manga all the time. And I'm reading HnI and as of now I'm on chapter 750's. So I of course read this fight before, and was looking forward to it animated. But unlike the other comments, mine comes this way:
I was happy that after 2 weeks of break, HnI returned with one hour special. But after watching it, I again found myself asking this simple question: Why? The flashback scenes of Sawamura are totally ruined. Just adapt the damn pages already written and waiting! Of course there could be minor differences which should not be minded, but they did ruin the Submarine Wars as well. Why do they do this? And the studio is great as well. No way to understand. One hundred percent meaningless. Without that flashback, how can one grasp the motives of Sawamura in a complete circle?

Don't misunderstand me, I like the anime a lot, but the adaptation does not live up to its source material.

That was one hell of a episode. I wanted it to be combined with episode 12 for 40 minutes of fun, but this did just fine. That fight was what I waited for since beginning of series. Anime is so much better than manga. Sure, manga is good, but fights are way too much prolonged. This was one hell of a battle, and what gave me goosebumps in manga, here almost gave me heart attack. OST, good drawing and Dempsey Roll sound made go crazy.

I do agree with you though. The anime is still great as it is. But they're cutting out way too much out of the manga. Its almost just about fighting at this moment.

Its a real shame like this. At the moment, I find the manga better, considering it explains more and it shows more.

Top notch animations and music btw. Madhouse never disappoint.
These two episodes gave me GOOSEBUMPS. I was literally immersed in it, I found myself with eyes and mouth wide open.

Also, the momentum was just wow.

But hey, they said that some episodes ago. So I perfectly understood Sawamura's situation even without reading the manga.

I have more of an issue with the anime cutting out how Sawamura and Sendo actually first met back in high school and Sendo (along with his gang) went all the way out to Nagoya just to fight him lol and Kawabe-sensei stops the fight and pleads with Sendo to be friends with Sawamura.

As for the fight, I loved it. I am so used to the speed of the bullet in the PS2 games, but I thought the speed and effects with the anime work well in its own respective universe's "physics." I totally digged Miki Shinichiro as Sawamura. I loved how he made this "dry" voice to make him sound hungry for that juicy meat. I always pictured Hiyama Nobuyuki in the role but Miki does it excellently. I can't wait to hear how Papaya Dachiu's, Eleki Battery's, Medgoen Dachboy's and David Eagle's voices sound like next.

Amazing conclusion to the Sawamura fight. Probably one of the best fights in the series so far and gave me the same chills that i have the first time i watched Ippo vs Sendo II.

I'd say Rising is better than new challenger in both Fights and OST department but the pacing is still rushed as hell. So it seems the last fight in the series is either Takamura vs David Eagle, and it's a damn great fight.

I still want Kamogawa and Nekota's past though.

Its not that he sucks, its just a Japanese thing. They always try and make the point, in almost every action anime, that guts/spirit is more important than strength/skill/intelligence etc.

See: Ippo, Goku, Naruto, every shonen ever

Hell, even the samurai's suicides were all about "showing their guts" (seppuku)

I liked the episode ( I didnt think it was as epic as the last one) but one thing Im worried about is that this season seems to be really focused on action. They're really well done, and thats great, but the reason why I liked the first season so much was because it had a lot of story about the fighters, a lot of good training episodes, and HUMOR outside of the ring.

that bit you mentioned about sawamura's back story has already been addressed in the anime. I think it was shown in one of the 2 episodes before the fight.(either in episode 9 or 10)

Ippo should just copy Nonito Donaire's dempsey roll. Instead of swinging left to right, he weaves to the blind spot and changes his punches from hooks to uppercuts and straights.

One more thing, Ippo never learned how to parry jabs and do overhand right/lefts which are counters to jabs and even straights punches IRL. Cain Velasquez and "Stun Gun" Kim Dong Hyun won their fights because of overhand punches.

Seriously people, am I the only person that got the chills during that episode? First of all, I'm surprised and excited that they came out with a new season to Hajime No Ippo to begin with and then on top of that, to put so much work into everything, it makes me love the creators. What were your thoughts on this episode? I give it a 9/10, seriously.

Three ribs, four destroyed teeth and an eyeball out of it socket. Holy mother of scary motherfucking punches. Ippo is such a scary powerhouse.

If you haven't noticed the opponents in Ippo usually seem to share a similar determination of not wanting to lose and giving everything for the win so NO, is not about guts. What Hajime no Ippo likes to praise a lot is hard work. It always makes a point on how Ippo has incredible stamina and can last almost threw anything due to his trust in his training and the hard work he puts to built himself.

I missed the part where Sawamura and Sendo first met way back in high school and how Sawamura spat on Kawabe-sensei between rounds showing how much he was in digust he felt he betrayed him and how Sendo told Sawamura at the hospital that Kawabe-sensei was also in foster care and that he should value him more.

The flashback with Sawamura stabbing his step-father was shown in the anime, but I felt some of the circumstances weren't that well expanded in the anime.

Hot damn, Sawamura felt that last punch! XD Then his Anti-Anti-Anti-Dempsey Roll mid-episode didn't work when the Anti-Anti...ah heck let's just say it's a quadruple Anti Dempsey Roll (I'm thinking quad cannons, LOL) sent him an artillery barrage worth of punches to answer his pistol bullets. Sorry Ryuuhei, you won't have this particular tender meat today, perhaps never. Unless you wanna have a go at it in the future again? XP

Good to hear that the internal damage brought by the evolved Dempsey Roll isn't that critical...yet. Anyway, a very good episode especially when Ippo started beating Ryuuhei down.

Congratz on the win. But seriously, why isn't anyone in the series addressing the fact that Sawamura is a fucked up asshole that plays dirty, beats up people at random and punched Kumi? Stop complimenting him on a good fight and send him to fucking jail already.

Also, since I marathoned the entire series and this is my first post about it, I gotta say that the use-any-method-to-win-including-cheating-and-conveniently-awful-referees thing is overused. Although usually they make up for it by making the rest of the fight pretty good.

They did say he played dirty and such and probably they wanted him to go in jail too.
At least Mashiba for sure wanted it.

Yeah, the cheating is overused in spokon, yet is always effective. Anyway, this time they used the cheat-thing two or three times? So I can't complain.
