The setting is a little bit similar to Ranma 1/2 which was published around the same time. People at that era are so lucky to have many quality manga (but I still think the present time is always the best).

From the author of Detective Conan aka Case Closed, but could Yaiba actually be his best work? This anime will decide my opinion on that.

Ore wa Kurogane Yaiba, meitantei da samurai da!

After 30 years I can't shake off seeing Conan in Kurogane Yaiba character. Still happy to see a revival of the Yaiba series.

I never saw the original anime, the remake looks pretty good so far I especially like Conan author's style and it works well on a shounen battle anime, I don't really know where this is going though but we'll see, the Tokyo landscapes look great so far and Yaiba seems strong, even though the bald guy is even stronger.

Is this like a remake of old anime? The style is kinda old school but WIT animate this beautifully.

Is it worth the watch?
@Ravarae yes its a remake and adaptation of an 80s manga. Worth watching and it will get more serious later on

After the announcement of this remake I tried to watch the original anime but didn't like it at all but this one looks soo good not only the animation but also the overall direction and the characters looks far more interesting. I like the fact that Wit is taking creative liberty in its story telling, they rearranging or changing certain scenes which felt out of place or awkward in original series.

@Ravarae So far, so good, I'd say yes! Especially as WIT is in charge of it.

The 90s version has 52 eps and they only adapted 130+ chapters.
Manga has 220+ chap so this remake can adapt the whole manga on 3-4 seasons.

This one was already on my watchlist, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s also by the same author as Detective Conan, Kaito, and Lupin. Super solid debut, just like the trailer promised — and on top of that, the production quality is clearly above average.
I didn’t watch the original, but I was really curious to check out this remake. It has that classic 80/90s shounen vibe, which is a big plus!
But only 10k members on MAL is really low

The 2025 Yaiba remake is here (remake of Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba from 1993). And of course it's an A-tier adaptation as it's animated by a top-tier studio. I watched 26 episodes of the 1993 version, and I really wanted to like it (and I did like the first few episodes), but it was just too childish compared to other shounens, and it was clear that it was targeted towards very young children mostly because of the talking animals that appear later. And it's very rare for me to think an anime is childish and that I might be too old for it, but this is one those anime that wouldn't appeal to teenagers and adults. This remake will probably be the same. This first episode is slower-paced but mostly the same as the first episode of the 1993 version, except that in the 1993 version, Yaiba's father didn't tag along with Yaiba when going to Japan, and Yaiba and Onimaru first meet at the airport instead of at school. And yeah, it's by the creator of Detective Conan, hence the same artstyle.

This feels like an old saturday morning cartoon. Bright colors, animals with big smiles, exaggerated facial expressions and an overall child-like artstyle.

Even tough it has some real smooth and energetic animation, I kinda felt indifferent while watching, it didn't hook me at all. The humor feels outdated, too.

I hope it gets a little darker and mature in future episodes. But right now, there are no real hints that it will.
@utopica Nope. I watched the original and it stays goofy and silly throughout (goofy villains, etc). Remake will most likely be the same.

For a while I had been going on an off about watching the original Yaiba anime run. It was from before I was born so as a kid I hadn't heard much about it other than it was decent enough for the time. Then the remake got an announcement so I decided to wait for it in order to get a veredict. Good thing I did so.

Yaiba is so full of action and energy in this single that it really takes a concept from that time and translates it to modern day. Unlike the Urusei Yatsura remake that leeft me a first impression characters constantly shouting this one has less of that and more snapping frames with angular and spiky characters going at each other. It's charaming in its execution even if I think the opening went very fast and it sets the goal of samurai quite early on. Oh, and while it has some quirks from 1993 I can let them pass so long as nothing major comes to light.

Well, it's still the first episode but it hooked me quite well.

Wit Studio >>> THE ANIMATION FCKING SHT! This is a passion project through and through from the start to the OP and ED, everything is so beautifully animated and SO FLUID. It’s just the first episode, and while there wasn’t much story-wise, it totally feels like an 80s anime which it is of course because it's a remake. The energy of MC reminds me of Goku and Luffy. Not much is going on plot-wise, but I’m sticking with it for the visuals alone holy man, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a passion project like this. A wet dream and a love letter for every sakuga fan!

The start of this show was hilarious—getting shipped from the jungle in a banana container to a city airport in Japan!

Little Yaiba has never seen the world outside the jungle, and now he’s got the chance to experience city life. I’m not surprised Sayaka is the first girl he’s ever seen—it totally makes sense given how he was raised.

The anime looks promising, and I’m sure it’ll get more and more interesting with each new episode.

Classic Kameda. Super cool animation. This is Kameda's passion project, so I have been looking forward to it for a while now, and I'm liking it so far.

Yaiba is cool and an airhead. Many funny moments were there in the first episode. Sayaka is super adorable. Looking forward to more of her. Basically, what a 90s show would feel like, it felt like that. It was very enjoyable.

The fact that this remake is still able to get its original seiyuu puts a smile on my face. Yaiba reminds me so much of Goku with his thirst for combat with a smile. This will prove to be a fun anime that Wit Studio got for itself.

My favourite part is Minami Takayama being hired for the same role...but I guess Yaiba's idiosyncrasies can't easily matched by someone else.
Also my first thought when I read about the reboot was "Onimaru will be played by Yoshimasa Hosoya?"...here he is.
The animation is nice, nothing mind blowing...but maybe I am desensitised.

Tho I am dropping this after a couple of episodes (was just ciriouse about the production), since I am familiar with the manga and it's a typical 80's battle/sport shounen.

Good first episode.

One critique I have is simply that the opening song just isn't very good, but that's a consistent matter of taste. I find both the opening and ending songs lack the energy of their original anime counterparts, but the ending song is deliberately going for something different.

I'm more interested in seeing how this will go once the anime goes beyond the Kaguya arc, but that also probably won't be for two years or so based on Wit's scheduling lol.

Episode 4/5

A great start, very fun and a little too crazy lol
We have Yaiba and his father arriving in the city and a sequence of fights and unusual things happening, some very fun dynamics like that of Yaiba and the girl that reminded me from the remake of ranma ½. The fights were very well done by wit studio, and the animation It was phenomenal. A very promising and excellent quality start, for me so far this was the third best debut of the season. I'm already looking forward to the next episode

Damn, this looks really good!

Wit Studio really cooking here, and the visuals with modern Tokyo is just beautiful. Action choreography is intense and the character designs give off authentic 90’s vibes, I’m sold already.

Quite the rough swordsmanship Yaiba possesses, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares with opponents going forward. National champion is something else! Had to go back to the start to see whether the pink and green signified these two, but doesn’t seem like it.

Yaiba’s first exposure to city life, lol - it was hilarious all round. And first time seeing girls too. Pops definitely shared good advice, lmao. Solid Op and ED as well.

If this is what the One Piece is going to look like, I’m beyond excited now.

One of the strongest premieres I have seen in a while. Visually arresting, with an immediately charming cast and great music. I'm locked in for 2 cours! And from what I understand, Wit is committed to completely adapting the manga after this?

Damn, I knew nothing about the story or the remake and this premiere episode totally blew me away. This might be the best anime this season if it keeps up like that, Hopefully it gets the recognition it deserves.

I've heard the staff is extremely stacked for this anime and the result is that the art and animation is so breathtaking. This episode reminded me of the good old Shounen days, Introducing us to the main bad guy in episode 1 haha.

That animation was fantastic! The little dude is annoying AF though. I'm not going to watch this one seasonally. I was not really into the comedy in this episode, but I could see the charm growing on me eventually. Glad it was a good start for everyone excited about the series. I might come back to it once it finishes airing, but I can already tell it is something I would fall behind on while it airs. I tend to enjoy Shounen like these more if I watch them in marathon sessions.
