I think I may have found a plothole in this episode and also in the LN which covers this part. How is Ren able to read Bitch's letter? All the heroes except for Naofumi are not able to read this worlds language. They can only understand the verbally spoken language. So how did he understand her written letter. For the LN, I just assumed he asked someone to read it for him because it wasnt like really specified in the novel which gave it some space for creativity and imagination. Spoiler: He later gets taught how to read this worlds language or at least starts to study it. Are there any other LN reader who also found it strange?

Ren - the typical gamer tryhard who blames everyone else when he fucks up
Motoyasu - The gamer pervert who hits on any female character
Itsuki - The bitch bow player, nuff said

Who the hell picks these heroes? They have so many mental flaws and poor character. Its like they were purposely picked to destroy the world because of how weak they are.

We are 3 seasons in and Bitch still using the exact same tactic to manipulate the heroes, how dumb are they? Shame;less tired old trope. Cmon man....

As much as I disliked the last episode I do like this episode. Quite compley in an emtional way, plenty of character development and just the right mix of fierce fighting and comedic relief!

What surprises me the most is that I really like this new derp face Mc Motoyasu guy. :D

My face hurts from facepalming so hard when Ren realizes he was tricked by Bitch.

Also, going to go ahead and say that Motoyasu probably has the Lust Curse series and I don't think I need to elaborate.

I'm surprised this wasn't a bad episode. Only thing I would have changed would have been more focus on the action scenes. We got a lot of weird cuts of characters just watching other characters fighting. Like turn the camera around I hear the sword clashing sounds over there.

We got Ren's backstory very isekai-ish but still cool to see. Also Motoyatsu was using his brain by luring out the bandits. WTF dude is hella dangerous when he starts using that. I'm pretty sure he was using the lust series with his spear, it was glowing all purple. It would explain his ridiculous strength.

Every change the studio did in S2 came back to bite them in the ass!
- S2 ended with the three heroes stopping the wave, getting medals for their bravery and saving the kingdom. S3 retconned this and everyone hates the three heroes for not helping.
- The reason only Eclair could save Ren is because they started to have a small relationship/history. Because this got cut from S2 Eclair saving him feels random.
- The group getting curse in S2 didn't happen, but they still have it in S3 and affects their performance seriously.
- The agents of the waves have artificial souls and this allows them to revive. During the fight against Kyo Naoufumi's group discovered this and gained the knowledge to stop him. Because this got cut from S2 the soul thing feels random.
- Naofumi recognizes that Ren is using a Curse Series, but doesn't notice that Motoyasu is using one too.
- When the hooded guys die in episode 5 there's no blood, but there's blood in episode 6.
@Yaggamy I always appreciate when people like you help us anime only watchers with either minor details that were skipped or like with those actual important plot points

I thought Ren was a complete loser but that brief moment before dying showed that deep inside he was a genuine hero and Motoyatsu this episode kicking butt and saving the day for once.

Just like with Naofumi way back in season 1, Ren finds out the hard way in how much of a nasty piece of work Bitch can be, tricking him before disappearing with is equipment. Still, this episode did focus on Ren and what he was like back in his world in being a dedicated gamer, although seeing him spring into action to save the schoolgirls from being stabbed was a brave thing of him to do.

His current state was making him go completely off the rails with how cursed he was, so stopping him was a must, which Eclair did a good job in defeating him and getting through his head with her words. The two goons from the previous episode appeared again, but Motoyasu didn't hesitated in taking the pair down before Raphtalia finished their spirits off in style.

You can easily tell that Motoyasu has the lust curse with how he acts now, especially towards poor Filo, who I can't blame her and Rishia from running away in horror. XD

Overall, I was happy with how this episode wrapped up Ren's issues and I hope that he can take that step needed to redeem himself.

I like that they're finally exploring the other heroes' characters more in-depth, but man they are really struggling with the fight scenes. Season 1's limited animation could be forgiven due to the strong direction of the story but watching the difference of what is said and what the characters feel (ex: the whole battle against ren feeling very underwhelming compared to other, narratively less high-stakes battles like the season1 finale) right now, when the story isn't too sure of where to go is really jarring. It doesn't help that they decided to make every character stay there and commentate while the battle went on, was it like that in the light novels too? I'm invested in the direction the anime is taking and the music and voicework is amazing as always but sadly everything else makes me feel this week's chapter is more of a 6/10. Hope it gets better towards the finale or Kinema Citrus can allocate more resources for next season seeing how the property is so popular in japan :/

The spear hero Motoyatsu actually did something useful for once, he's really going hard to get his father's approval in Naofumi. It's kinda scary. Poor Ren went through the same BS with bitch that lead Ren to tap into his curse series of Greed and Gluttony. Luckily, Ren was able to snap out of it after fighting with Eclair who has now become his partner. Ren was just a typical gamer with no friends in his previous life and got the typical isekai route by dying trying to save someone.

A detail that I hadn't noticed watching the episode the first time:

In the novel, it is stated that Ren died trying to save a childhood friend from a serial killer.

At the beginning of this episode and Ren's flashback, a girl casually talks to Ren, saying that she wanted to play with him. She is almost identical to the girl who is saved by Ren from being stabbed.

Everything indicates that she was his childhood friend, who before was probably trying to help Ren and his antisocial behavior by showing other people how good he was at the game so he could make other friends, but he refuses with an excuse.

Wait I’m just thinking, how was Ren able to read the letter? Since the hero’s can only understand the spoken language. In the books it was kind of glossed over.

Overall they did a really good job with the adaptation in this one. Really love how much they characterised ren who’s come off as a pretentious asshole since first met him. Yes, he has his flaws, but he’s really a good person at heart. Shoutout to eclair for coming in clutch and breaking the hold the curse series had on him.

Motoyasu taking out the bad guys literally had Naofumi and Ralphtalia jaws on the floor lol

It seems like all 4 Cardinal Heroes can develop curses, and since there are 7 sins and 4 heroes, I'm guessing each hero can succumb to two sins, except for the Shield Hero, who only had to deal with Wrath. If Ren has Greed and Gluttony, then Motoyasu probably has Pride and Lust, and Itsuki has Sloth and Envy.

I'm also guessing that the Vassal Weapons will play an important role, likely to be connected with the Cardinal Heroes' curses somehow. It looks like Motoyasu will be the next one to deal with his curse, since the purple weapon and red marks on his face and body might be a sign.

I'm also wondering if Bitch's goal is to actually get the heroes to fall for their curses. But why though? Hmm...

Ren forced to accept reality. Suffering from PTSD following the lose of his entire party to the spirit tortoise Ren simply can't handle the truth of what he's done. Leading all those closest to him towards their deaths is a lot of guilt for one person. Ren didn't know which way was up at that point and fell so far he even trusted Bitch of all people. Naofumi as tired of all this extra work trying to get the other heroes to take this next attack seriously. Motoyasu already was a headache and now Ren isn't wanting to cooperate. Ren unlocking his curse series was awesome, Naofumi definitely knows all about that and what it takes go unlock. The curse of Gluttony consuming Ren as he desires all strength in the world. Naofumi almost falling victim to the guillotine skill Ren used. Eclair jumping in to take Ren down, beating him at his own game of sword play. Ren could use a good training partner like her. He's been talked down enough to now maybe he useful in the next big fight.

I do like they gave a bit of Ren's backstory and POV.

While it does not make his choices much better, it helps give you an idea why he made them. Especially considering these guys are basically teen/young adult weebs living their Isekai dreams.

Motoyasu has got to be the weirdest character I've ever seen. He doesn't have a lot of depth to him but holy shit is he diverse. Every time I think I've got his character figured out they give him a new personality lol I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, but it sure is different.

There's been a lot of inaccuracies and missed this season so far but it was mostly tolerable so far...
But this time around it feels like they cut down, changed up, crammed and stapled together like a quarter or a third of a volume in one episode, also pushing the abilities, story info, levels and power ratios out as a part of it and it hardly makes sense now, see tons of people confused in the comments about what's going on at all, and totally understand why, without reading the novel this all must look completely frigging random

@IhnalakoKaina Yes, no, not really. Season 2 changed and cut down far too much and handled it in all the wrong ways, that's after s1 also cut down a bit (it was tolerable though). This here is just them keeping at that trend of omitting and speeding stuff up, except now its caught up to them and there's so much info and story bits missing that it looks shallow, also really random, like the soul stuff that was supposed to be explained like 7~ episodes ago with Kyo. Believe it or not, this here was actually where the novel gets really good, but they botched it so bad in the last season and this one with rushing instead of taking the time to explain and make use of one of the best arcs that its actually painful to watch instead.

These 2 guys that came after mc where supposed to be really overpowered due to being overleveled and buffed,, there was also supposed to be much more elaboration about both them and Kyo, the name of their group (wave vanguard), the fact they're just random guys that are 'hero hunting', as in going from world to world to kill heroes for the levels and buffs it grants them, how they are partially immortal (and Kyo too, which last season didn't even bother to mention), how their souls look like middle aged Japanese men, why Raphtalia was able to cut down their souls in the first place... Instead they made them these random stooges that died all too quickly the first time and they didn't show how they're far too strong, Raphtalia was able to kill them only because he removed the curse from her accidentally by using a cleanse to clear her support buff and she surprised one of them with the resulting speed. The fight was supposed to be longer and show how they really struggled against them, also show how Ren is a complete weakling even with the curse applied (it was also supposed to destroy his equipment), to the point Naofumi was able to stop the guiliotine cursed finishing move with his bare hand, meanwhile the anime shows mc struggling.

And then when the stooges come back, mc is worried they'll kill Ren because he's such a weakling, but Motoyasu shows up and kills them in a moment like its nothing, showing just how potentially strong the heroes can be, which is supposed to be this huge shock moment , because up to this point the heroes where all shown to be EXTREMELY weak, with Raphtalia able to hold her own against them 1v1 even before getting a clan weapon, and possibly able to kill all 3 alone after she did get it... Their attacks where also way weaker than mc, to the point they called the few of his attacks 'cheats', despite them being pretty weak as far as power levels in the novel go. And now Motoyasu is suddenly way stronger than mc and Raphtalia ever where or could hope to be, at least as far as offensive power goes (mc's role is protecting after all). He's also batshit insane, even more so than Ren, which makes for some great comedy that they completely scoffed here. Lastly there was an explanation about how the cursed series is the holy weapon's defense mechanism, in case the heroes go nuts, so they won't end themselves and instead become obsessed with something. But yeah, as i said, they completely threw out all the info, explanations, and good bits overall, so it came out as pathetic as it did.

Ren was already a hero when he died in the original world but he sure is a big ass pain in the ass when he became a real hero. Not only does he have Greed and Gluttony, he also is a chuunibyou ass when he was out of control like that.

Also, Malty should be put to death the next time she's caught again.

So Ren basically goes through Naofumi's season 1 arc condensed into one episode, right down to Myne stealing all his stuff. Kinda wish the fight between him and Eclair lasted a bit longer though.

You know, when he's not chasing after Filo, Motoyaso can actually be kinda funny.

Ren has the power of the legendary weapon (attack power) but he lacks the swordsmanship skill Eclair has. He just randomly swings his sword but those are easy to Dodge. She is just really good at evading his attacks and Ren cant hit her. She has the skill to hit him but her attacks lack the attack power while it is the opposite for Ren. If He even hits her once, she would die.

Ok....Motoyasu's probably ALMOST redeemed himself from all that trash act in the 1st 2 seasons cuz of his whole "OTO-SAN'S ENEMIES MUST ALL DIE" and "OTO-SAN'S WORD IS LAW" act looooool

If he's really this brainwashed I mean "obedient" for the rest of the series than this is like a permanently...great ally for Naofumi & co?

It was both sad and enlightening to see how Ren was like before he Isekai'd and how he ultimately "died" to have become summoned to this world...
Can't believe B* dropped him THAT fast tho--almost record time.... and after taking all his equipment too. Damn low blow.

Wonder if they'll go into the others at some point (the OP hints at Motoyasu's I think...? I've been highly curious about it...unless it was revealed in previous seasons and I just forgot...)

im curious about the sin curses

naofumi has wrath
ren has greed and glutonny
im guessing motoyatsu gonna get maybe envy and DEFINITELY luxury
the bow hero seems to fit the requirements for pride (Cause he acts all high and mighty) and sloth (cause he hasnt done SH*T since the show began XD)

thats said thats how i view them to fit, doesn't that mean naofumi is kinda loosing? or maybe everyone of them can get their sin version of each curse, still naofumi made it sound a sin could only be in a person at a time. any manga reader to clear it up?

The anime passed the manga around episode 2 so this is LN territory now.
Why would Naofumi be loosing? The Curse Series are full of drawbacks and it's not worth using them.
The curses only exist to prevent the heroes from committing suicide.
Naofumi got wrath because he hated the whole world and everyone in it in S1 and wanted them to suffer/get vengeance.
Ren wanted best equipment(greed) and lots of it(gluttony) but forgot the reason for wanting those. Eclair reminded him of his goal.
Motoyasu is lusting/envious for love as you've guessed. His curse is that every woman he sees has a pig head(except Filo) and he can't understand what they are saying. He need an interpreter when speaking to a woman.

I Dont know why!! But this episode was really satisfying... Maybe because Ren got sucker punched by reality or maybe because we got to see him struggle to reach to a point where he understands that all this time, Naofumi was only looking out for him out of experience with Malty!! Whatever it is, I'm really glad he is back on track and the Spear hero and Sword hero are in same page (kinda) with the shield hero.
