Hmm yeah this show has lost it. All this crossdressing stuff is just too much. It’s funny for a few seconds but now it’s just more than worn its welcome and become a soapbox moment. Also I feel bad for his girlfriend and yet the show tries to make her out to be the villain. This show needs to go back to focusing on the intricacies and overcoming the pitfalls around cosplay, and Marin’s and Gojou’s relationship, not these weird and random side characters.
@Hylianticipated Why do you feel bad for his girlfriend? She is unaccepting of other peoples' identity to a deeply bigoted extent. To make this clear, I am not saying that she deserves to suffer or anything, but I would like to hear what brought you to empathize with her from the little screen time we got.

What I expected: a romcom about a horny cosplayer and an average guy
What I got: a series that dwells into the struggles of men who aren't masculine enough and/or embrace femininity
@Medialuna Well, it's not that they aren't masculine enough, but that the society they live in expect them to conform to roles and expectations which stand in contrast to the person they really are.

@HaXXspetten my bad, i wasn't clear about what part was woke. it wasn't the crossdressing part it's the pushing of "it's ok to do" part. also back then dressing as a woman was just for comedy on theatre. now saying it is completely normal is an overstatement. Maybe it's for you cause you're a one yourself and see from that perspective. lol
but you do you. it's just my opinion
@ultramb I've already written a reply to your first comment, so you can ignore that one, as I now have an explanation from you. My question now is simply, why do you not think it is okay to crossdress? I am assuming we are talking about this on a societal level, in other words, I am asking for proof that crossdressing has a general negative effect on the wellbeing of your population.

@SlicerofLifes So, I have a question about the manga. Did he break up with his GF and if so, when? Was this after she threw his clothes out or after the conversation happened with Marin and Gojou or did he not break up with her?
@_Kaorinite

As someone already answered: It gives the impression it was already his ex when he tells the story.

This episode was really heartfelt and cute. As an adult watching I can really relate to Amanda and see his perspective. It’s tough being an adult and having to face social constraints every day, so Amane being true to himself is such a powerful and motivating perspective. I hope we see him more this season.

It also shows how young and innocent Marin and Wakana are. Most people have had a relationship or two where they ran into that wall where they’re not willing to compromise on something they care about and it ends the relationship. But Amane’s lifelong plight has them both very upset. Which ofc you would be, but most adults especially a lot of us anime-watchers would be kind of jaded to such a story, it’s refreshing to see such human characters. I’’m so happy to get more of this content. It makes me wanna start cosplaying again

It's impressive how bad this episode was compared to the first two. Why is a character that was introduced at the end of last episode spilling his guts out to people he just met? Am I really supposed to care? If he's so over it and accepted / embraced his own self, why is he bringing up this topic? I just hope the mangaka realized it was a fumble and he won't appear later.

I'm here to see dynamic between Marin and Gojo, Marin being teasing, Gojo being flustered and sometimes the dynamic being reversed. Maybe some drama with already established characters sprinkled with cosplay related trivia.

I'm not here to see disposable Gojo-lite characters with rehashed backstory. The pacing of that episode felt so off too, mostly due to Himeno being a safe and flat (figuratively and literally) character. I really don't understand how mangaka expected the bench scene to have any emotional impact for a character that had zero depth. The whole ordeal with Marin crying felt forced to a point where it felt out of character, even for her. The drawn out cosplay info dump didn't help, too.

Just take time with fleshing out side characters little by little like it has been done until this point, don't make the whole episode focused on a new character. Otherwise it takes away from why people started watching the show in the first place.

Whole episode felt like a filler. Quite possibly the only episode in this anime that I've felt like I wasted time by watching. Maybe that's why I'm more irked about it than I should be, given all other episodes were great, but this one wasn't even mediocre. Hopefully it picks up back again next week.

Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2

watchedOn: 2025-07-23
episode: 3

This episode feels very cinematic for some reason. I like how it tackles the theme of self-acceptance, and doing what you loves to do even though other people don't accept it, to the point that they will criticize your for being someone who doesn't follow their standards.

There's not much I can say about it. I am still looking forward to future episodes of this series. WHen will Gojo realize that he likes Marin?

this season sucks. season 1 every episode had a goal and there was deadlines and stakes. there is no payoff for any of these episodes. the focus went from the costumes and the 2 main characters to the larger cosplay scene which is not interesting and idgaf about it.

@fatjoker it's also weird how a 20 year old guy is randomly trauma drumping and teaching fake breasts to 2 15 year olds. unc needs to shbau and just do xer cosplay and go home. bro has some next level narcissism and is baiting for praise to a next level esp when xhe was like "oh my science they only like me because the character is second popular or whatver."

This episode showed really well again how good a men can crossdress as a women. Also the scene with Wakanas / GHojo-kuns boobs was so funny and when Marin grapped them it blowed me away. It was also very sweet to see how the three open speaked about all this stuff. :D

I thought that this episode was really boring in comparison to the first two, which were quite good.
I get that the show is about cosplay, but it was always more about the romance and the characters than a class on how to look like an in-universe fictional character. Also, there are too many new characters this season. I noticed that starting from the first episode.

Amane made it perfectly clear that he's a guy and his cosplaying is just a hobby.

Dressing up and pretending to be something you're not is perfectly normal. We dressed up in some shape or form as one of our idols or characters to emulate them at least once.

What's NOT normal is dressing up and insisting that they're that character or "this" is who I am when they're obviously not.

Being able to have a sense of awareness and not be caught up in a delusion is what separates normal people from those who need help.

Amane has a good head on his shoulders to know and acknowledge that he's a guy who prefers girls and is comfortable letting others know that he's into cosplaying. He never insisted on something he's not because he can separate reality from fiction and live normally.

I just can’t get over the animation and the stellar job the studio has done in bringing this to life—every frame is as amazing as the last.

The episode's theme was powerful. I’m glad they were able to shed some light on what I’m sure is a major issue not only in Japan but around the world. Even if it’s just for a hobby, everyone should have the right to dress and express themselves however they want.

Great episode—loving everything.

That's a nice self-contained story and you could change cross-dressing for whatever suits you (TCG, comic books, drawing, anime etc). The message is still strong, NEVER allow other people lecture you on what's right and what's wrong for you, hobby is all about having fun and getting a relief from all the stress we encounter on daily basis.
If there is no harm done, no laws broken, then these people can gently gtfo.

I liked this character, even if it's just brief appearance (haven't read the manga so I don't know if he comes back later in the story).

The most unrealistic part is this beautiful guy doesn't have girls all over him lmao
Last time I checked, a lot of women completely ooze over feminine boys, so he should have been a k pop star in his school XDD

I’d been waiting to see Himeno’s story animated, and even knowing it, it still hit harder than I expected. Also, seeing how cosplayers don’t care about gender and just accept it as it is shows how beautiful that community can be

Oh, so that’s how you equip breasts. I’m assuming guys do this in real life as well. It was funny seeing Wakana get so insecure about his “boobs” being touched when THEY AREN’T HIS. Also now this store opens up the possibilities for better cosplays for Wakana and Marin. Along with that all the people at this event adore Amane’s cosplay especially after they learn that he’s a guy, and the environment is so encouraging. Along with that, we hear his story about how he got into cosplaying girls and the sad reality that some simply don’t accept guys dressing up as girls, so he went through an immediate breakup.

I hope that in a future cosplay event later in the series we’ll get to see him again, but for now we get to see some of Marin’s modeling work, and how they tie in the fact that Marin wants a DSLR camera and her doing more modeling work, and Wakana gives the wrong impression about his relationship with Marin, implying that he’s her prostitute.

And the birthday that Marin has gone out of her way to buy a cake for is SHIZUKU, THE FIRST PERSON THAT SHE AND WAKANA HAVE WORKED ON A COSPLAY FOR, AND THE PERSON SHE WAS JUST COSPLAYING AT THIS EVENT! MARIN IS A SHIZUKU KUROE SIMP IF YOU ASK ME!

I’m excited for more content, and I’m hoping a relationship actually develops between Wakana and Marin because it’s clear that they like each other. It would be cool if Marin’s friends tried to set something up for example.

A moving episode that delivered on lots of emotional setups for Himeno and Gojou. Even Marin gets similar focus, expressing the type of genuine frustration that we expect Himeno didn't voice, as he almost reflexively assumes and apologizes that his trauma upset them in a non-empathetic way.

It was great seeing them all share their passions and knowledge with each other. And the subtle cues that indicate hesitation/worry to viewers are effectively reintegrated later on, like Gojou immediately exclaiming how he'd never call Himeno "creepy" before the possibility could even be given room to breathe. It's the same brand of trauma Gojou had from a young age, so that response was baked into his bones; and that speed/sincerity went a long way to helping Himeno reach the same conclusion that Gojou realized at the season's start. That assuming all people will be cruel because one person had been isn't a given. This exchange also leads to Himeno being as beautiful/handsome as he is when seen without makeup. I'm really glad our first head-on view, their full person's reveal, had such a narratively and aesthetically satisfying pay-off.

On top of all that, we follow up on these great developments by having Gojou see another side of Marin during a model shoot. At first glance, he still elevates her to some abstract plane of existence, and that thinking is even reinforced by the praise of a company employee. That said, he can tell there's something different about the other sides of Marin he knows, that the side he knows can't be written off, and properly recognizes Marin's still the same person he knows, unabashedly expressing her joy as she gushes over and celebrates Shizu-tan's birthday.

Also, Marin's effin' adorable and hella cathartic to see in the closing scenes. Viewers (including Gojou) can't help loving the sight of such a beauty, inside and out. A sight for sore eyes and a salve for weary hearts. Going all out with her passions and then naturally transitioning to low-key tones, as she slaps her mask on a bottle, is also a nice tonal reset that doubles as her tendency to live in the moment; contrasting a certain anxious minded youth who stresses over the present being acceptable.

All in all, looking forward to more peak~

As much as I have loved this show in the past, I did not expect it to shake me to my core quite like this episode did. I have fallen deeper in love with this show and I can now firmly say that this show is quickly becoming one of my new favorites, very likely ending up in my top ten by the end of the season.

Gojo and Marin are characters I have almost never seen in anime. Accepting, understanding, kind, and curious people. There's the moments of shock between them upon learning Amane is a guy but it is shock in the way that this guy is extremely talented in his hobby and the two wish learn from such experience. Something I loved is the differentiation the show quietly makes between the shock of just Amane being a guy and the shock of Amane dressing up so successfully into another character through vastly effective crossplay. It feels very mature in this direction.

Most importantly I want to discuss the beautiful narrative around Amane. It makes sense that the show would eventually cover crossplay given it's broad coverage of cosplay in general so far. I think the vital difference though is the way that the crossplay fits into the narrative. It weaves beautifully with what Gojo's character has teased/set-up and now we are starting to see the bigger picture. Cosplay gave Amane love and confidence both, these newfound feelings obviously being more important than some judgmental woman's opinion of him. I love how Amane's story is painted with a wholesome and warm atmosphere, never giving his ex an inch into the emotion of the story. It is a bump in the road for sure but the important takeaway is that Amane never let that inhibit him being himself. Gojo being a part of this scene is crucial for his character development and I look forward to seeing where this experience takes him.

I could not have asked for a better episode. This was a genuinely really moving story and I'm so happy I got to see it.

Very wholesome episode that did not have only funny gags and cute scenes, but also an important, positive message to be who you are and who you want to be, without sacrificing your personality or hobbies to appeal to someone else who might dislike them, no matter the reason.

What can i tell... second season, until now, leaving aside the small "visit to the sick romantic interest", never stops winning and making it big. It's not just about dealing with a topic that deeply resonates with me, but especially about having a good message handled with maturity, decency and without going full overjudgemental and shoving it down your throat, as seen too often in media different from anime in the last decade.

First part was a useful tutorial for someone like me, and once again, i adored how this point of view of "buy every cosplay item" vs "create everything yourself" was handled with balance without digs at either sides. i mostly did the former, created some props out of waste material and bought clothes similar to anime characters uniforms but with the needed add-ons with my mother's support, so i would never judge.

Nothing much to tell about how wonderful is the entire moment of "can we ask for a picture", that's 100% my world at anime conventions (almost one month after italian convention Riminicomix i'm still hyped remembering a person portraying Takatin from Gintama, unbelievable) even if mostly with me being the one asking instead of the one being asked, and especially considering it's the kind of event where i can almost leave home my loser status for a few hours. i can easily understand Amane pointing out "for your information i'm a male, does it bother you?" especially since he's so great at crossdressing. When i began with female characters cosplaying myself (10+ years later if we compare our different ages), i've never been asked but it's completely fine because i've never been as good at it as Amane. Also, no matter how much i completely expected it at this point, extremely relatable background for him, but with the really appreciated twist that his family supported him in his interest since day one... to a lesser extent, it counts too that he found a "immediately jumping to conclusions" girlfriend and he was the one breaking the relationship. Impossible too not making comparisons to Gojo and the annoying kid from all the way back from the pilot episode, hopefully waiting for a return with class act payback from him.

Kitagawa... is too sweet for words for reacting like she did. When a birthday was announced, not gonna lie, i was thinking about one of the already seen friends but... no, even better, it was Shizuku's, and Gojo's reaction to all of it was hysterical. Laugh at her or me all you want, i did the exact same thing multiple times even if without involving other people. Ask Eli Ayase, especially last year as October 21 fell on my day off from work. It doubles down too because she was my first cosplayed female character, and also for practical reasons couldn't be anyone else.

Also a good episode.

Crossdresser is a cutie, its unusual that he opened up so much to the persons he met for the first time, well, apparently Marin and Gojou are seems like good people.
I like that they both supported him, Marin even cried.
She really reacts passionate about everything - if its fun, she having fun, if its sad, she cries.

The ending killed.
Marin was like "lets go celebrate a birthday!"
And they celebrate birthday of an anime character.
But i fully support it, i do it too.
Marin must be really love this anime waifu if she celebrates her birthday and wears a tshirt with her ahegao 🥵🥵🥵
