| Fairly entertaining start, this. Ranpo-san always makes things interesting and he did no different in this episode, lol. Especially laughed during that scene when he used up his free support immediately after finishing up his food and walking off, this series knows how to nail subtle comedic moments like this. Looks like they'll probably stick with the tradition of the first four episodes covering a bit of the past followed by the resumption of the current events. It was cool to see young Oda Sakunosuke-san here, I can sort of see now why Dazai-san held him in such high regard, I guess. Quite the heartless lad though, making sure to kill his target the moment he got a chance to. Compared to his aged self from Season 2, you wouldn't expect to see this right off the bat. |

| I can't express how happy I am that they chose to start season 4 with the third LN. This is my fave of the LNs because we get to know Fukuzawa (a character who's still pretty damn mysterious in the main story) and we really get to understand and see sides of Ranpo that aren't portrayed in the manga story. And then of course there's the appearance of baby OdaSaku in this novel too! ❤ I bloody love that scene where Ranpo tries to guilt trip Fukuzawa into helping him out, failing and then calling on the free favor that Fukuzawa promised him 😆 I'm kinda disappointed that Granrodeo didn't do the OP though because the ones they did for BSD in the past have been lit AF |

| Definitely worth the wait! I thought the black & white style gave it a noir-ish vibe that goes well with the overall feel of this series. Some people may not like starting an arc with a backstory, but I felt like it was very well done here. Ranpo reminds me of my autistic students who often just don't get why neurotypical people do the things they do, so of course that made me feel a strong connection to the character right from the start 'cos I adore my students! Strong start to the new season and I'm looking forward to more. |

| Very good start. Excellent pacing, story telling and acting. Deductions are a bit far fetched but they serve a purpose to show his talent so I didn't find them distracting. Good start, all I have to do now is remember the whole world this show resides in, since it's been a while since last episodes. |

| Such a great ep to start off the season. Loved the monochrome palette. Always wanted to know more about Fukuzawa's past. Nice to see it was Rampo who changed his mind about working in a team. |

| Advice : A full rewatch of BSD would be advisable before starting S4 I believe. This is the kind of story where too many characters are important and fleshed-out by flashbacks such as this one. I'm guessing Rampo is a teen now, as Rampo is 26 in the "present" time, is this something like 10 years ago ?` I don't think we clearly saw a "X years ago" but I may be wrong. So trying to guess if this is before/after Fukuzawa and Mori being "taught" by Natsume Souseki and/or if this is before/after the planning of the "three parts framework". Flashbak we had in S3 with Fukuzawa and Mori was from 12 years ago. As Fukuzawa wants to play it solo, we can at least say this stands before Fukuzawa accepting to be a part of the three parts framework. Heck, maybe this is all part of Natsume's plan, maybe he somehow brought Rampo to Yokohama so that Fukuzawa stops playing it solo :D |

| That was a fascinating season start! A back story of the Silver Wolf and Edogawa - and later, I assume, others too. Very strong first ep, greatly voiced and animated too. I'm eager to watch the next eps! |

| Its finally back!! I had to skip through the last episode of season 3 to remember what happened previously. The last season wasn't that great and pretty much boring so I hope this season will be better. So this is how it all started? The iconic meeting of 14 year old Ranpo and the president. I'm glad we got to see how it all started. I'm so glad the dub came out around the same time as the subbed. |

| I don’t read the manga but I always love this series. It does not matter who is the main character or whether the show is a prequel/sequel, it is always very entertaining if you like action and detective stuff. I enjoyed the first episode heavily. |

| New Bungou season and the flashback arc is focused on my favorite character of the series yet. Fantastic decision to go for such a muted color aesthetic (mostly black and white) for the flashback. Windows, Dutch angles, stark lighting and Igarashi faces, Igarashi is back in full form.  The action boards are also SO GOOD trying to use the limited space to their maximum efficiency. |
