I'm sorry but people with that mindset just piss me off. Does a good plot and developed character cast mean nothing?

What you just said pisses me off. Would you watch 2 bags of shit with a love story instead of a video from Megan Fox walking on a beach in a bikini? I definitely would choose for Megan Fox.

I have this problem with Code Geass. I like the story but the art is in my eyes so ugly, that I just can't get myself to watch it.
Do you guys have this problem too, or do you guys watch an anime even if the artstyle is really ugly?

I'm in the same boat as you XD. I keep reading how good Code Geass is but the art style is preventing me from watching it.

For me it's happened many times. I'll start the first episode of series, only to close it after 5 minutes if I don't like the artwork. To be fair, I don't write it off completely, I just have to prepare myself for an alternative art style. It was because of the artwork that I almost didn't watch Genshiken, although now it's one of my favorite anime.

Code Geass is a masterpiece, don't let the art style deceive you. For me not really, I don't really like the art style for Initial D, the MC looks so dull but I still watched the anime and enjoyed it.

Although I definitely think Code Geass has some nice animation, I do have this same problem with other anime, especially Kingdom. I'd love to get into it, it seems really interesting, but that weird CG robot movement annoys me to death.

The art style for Kuchuu Buranko was so off-putting. It's sad, because the actual content was pretty good.

Not a fan of the disjointed limbs in most anime series either. ie. In Yugioh whenever they do something (over)dramatic, like draw a card, their elbows and fingers bend in really odd directions.

Because boobs aren't big enough?

No because the eyes are the same size as the boobs.

With the expectation of one about a guy falling in love with a monster (Forgot name, but I really couldn't stand the art) I never drop or refuse to watch an anime because of its artstyle.
However I do admit that it really bothers me that some teenagers in anime look like kids. Especially the girls, who look way too cute to take seriously.

Everything that's way too slapstick and weird faces... It makes me a little nervous, but I dont usually give any importance to the art.

I dislike the series where the characters are drawn with huge eyes (like Clannad or School Days). The smaller and more realistic eyes, the better for me.
The artstyle is not a crucial factor for me though, I wouldn't miss a show because of it.

I remember Kirarin Revolution when they decided to go 3D for the final 50 episodes. About 90% of the fans dropped it because it was horrible.

I liked that anime. But then starting on episode 103, they went 3D, one of the most horrible decisions in anime history.

Well, at least people dropped with a legitimate reason. I've been seeing lots of people drop Shinsekai Yori because episode 8 recently. :/ It's just a few homosexual scenes that have no big significance in the story.

Recently? People have been doing that for as long as that episode has existed.

Even though it was basically only like that for that episode... the homo subplot thing gets dropped pretty quickly and then never brought up again.

I've been seeing in the recommendation forums more often. A lot of SSY enthusiasts (including myself) keep on recommending it and people watch it up to that episode and drop it (plus they give it a 2 or 3/10 lol)

I find SSY a bit tough to recommend because it starts off good, gets better, then becomes really meh for a long while, then it gets good again, then it get's really fucking good, then it get's amazing, and then it's over.

It's... weird. The last third or so is absolutely amazing, but it jerks around a bit to get there.

I found it really easy to watch (after the first Queerat arc), but that's probably because I liked it a lot. I just wish people had more patience to sit through it without giving up and calling it shit because it was too slow for their liking.

I never found it difficult to watch, I just understand why others might.

But man that yaoi is hard to stomach for a lot of people. It wasn't even that explicit. Maybe the relatively down-to-earth portrayal of innocent love between two small boys is what makes it so hard to stomach; it's too "realistic" (in a sense).

It's a visual medium. If you were going to animate it, for god's sake act like you did it for a reason. If the art is crap it ruins the effect.

Most notably, Japanese 3D is consistently just bad. And moe - I fucking HATE it when they use overly moe character designs. They don't look human anymroe and it really throws me off. I can't take you seriously as a human character when your eyes take up 3/4ths of your head.
Anyone who doesn't hate anime hasn't watched enough anime.

People always rag on Bokura ga Ita's art.

But even though it was low budget, I think it worked well for the art style of the manga, which honestly didn't look bad at all. It captured the simplicity, and the sort water color-esque tones were pleasant and fitting.

Especially when there were color pages. I love the artist's style with paint:

I'll watch an anime if the art style is different or it doesn't have a great production value, but if it's so bad that it looks like the producers had to trade a sack of potatoes for the animation budget, then no, I won't watch it.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

I have not watched anime before because of the art style many many times. It doesn't HAVE to have "beautiful" characters it just has to have good art quality. Example Tokyo Godfathers is probably one of my absolute favorite anime.

I see a lot of , I wont watch before a certain date which is funny. To me some of the best anime were done in those years. I think of something like Jyu Oh sei, Get Backers, Wolf's Rain, Mugen No Ryvius, Heat Guy J, or Gankutsuou to name a few and I compare them to the more "polished" look now days and I find I enjoy sometimes the rougher qualities. So many of the animation now days is almost cookie cutter and lacking character... not all mind you but a good bit of it, that I like finding an older show and just

I think actually, it's more of a ..does the animation speak to you vs if it's "bad or not.

Yup.. I actually like the art for the most part. Well I'm just a manga reader now (since fall 2012) , but I watched the anime mostly until Thriller Bark I think. Everything else in manga form after that besides Marineford + Flashback. I like art in manga and anime, there's a lot of unique characters, powers, and settings in One Piece that are done pretty well in my opinion.

Nope no problem here. I grew up watching anime and have seen the evolution in art styles so I have no problem watching "old" or weird-looking art in anime. It's kind of like gaming I guess. A lot of people who are used to the current graphics have a hard time playing games from earlier era.

I kinda force myself a bit at the beginning but it seems that older anime can be somewhat less ecchi in which I find can be quite refreshing. Being a gamer that plays the shit out of a pc until the graphic card stops working, I find mostly if not all art style would meet my bare minimum requirement as I am used to playing game in lowest setting.'
