Chisaki n Tsumugu scene is too comfy, I honestly expect more. Maybe a confession or skinship, but theres nothing..

I think the preview showed either its Kaname or Hikari who will confess.

I would seriously be delighted if Tsumugu would confess before the series ends.

Kaname already confessed before the time skip, right? so maybe it's more of the latter.

Manaka have waken up , but it seems like she changes . She laughs and just plays without asking what happened during 5 years . And what with the scene in the new ending , Manaka and Miuna hold the fire of the Sea god ?
Btw , good episode , but i can see the hint that , Manaka can't end up with Hikari.
Still waiting for more from Chisaki and Tsumugu

Namaka :p Manaka lost Ena... Could it be that, her Ena transferred to Miuna?

Is it just me or Chisaki leave coz if she stayed, then she would have had to eat too and that means, one less cream puff (or whatever it was)? She is so nice..

For a moment, I thought Manaka is having memory loss (is she? Is she not?). The last scene seemed so refreshing, Tsumugu getting that curse, my Tsumugu x Manaka feels...

well , you have a point that we don't know exactly if Manaka likes tsumugu or not . But i'm pretty sure the scene when they first met in the episode 1 has its "meaning".

I don't know why but Akira was cute when he says Namaka, and wants to go with Manaka and Hikari :D.

Yay a happy childhood reunion, though except for Chisaki who only grew up then the rest but still everyone is back :D. Manaka is really energetic in here, but somehow it didn't feel right when she didn't know about her Ena being lost and her memories she forgotten from the Ofunehiki.

Damm, Tsumugu getting a curse from Uroko-sama, let's see what happens next.

I dont care what anybody else says. I think kanamexchisaki would still be better than tsumuguxchisaki. i just dont feel anything for or sympathize with tsumugu. i sympathize more with kaname more than anything else. He actually lost everything, including chisaki. but his chances are pretty low from what i can see. in the end it'll probably be tsumuguxchisaki. i just hope they at least execute it correctly. like, without the main cause being grandpa's death or something stupid like that :/

been a kanamexchisaki shipper since the start because hikari, manaka and tsumugu got on my nerves,
and kaname was the cool alpha boss (until his jealous breakdown). Ive been starting to like tsumugu a bit more to be honest, but still feeling bad for kaname if tsumugu hooked up with chisaki. But yeah, they kinda gave it away when they made chisaki and tsumugu 5 years older than the rest so i expect this ship to be the only canon one.

I have a feeling that Manaka won't be able to return normal by the end, and if she does there will be consequences. It seems that she lost her ability to become affectionate which Hikari must have noticed by the end. Especially in the OP, Manaka is the only one still in her old uniform, catching the lost red umbrella right next to the flag that is supposed to guide people... Either her soul disconnected from her body or the sea god robbed her of her affections. And if you look up the chinese meaning behind the red umbrella, it seems that its used to send off brides right before their weddings. (Symbolizing good shelter for her married life) I'm not entirely sure what the meaning behind Miuna and the umbrella is, but it seems that Manaka is fated to leave the group :( Although I hope not!

I loved the little change in the OP, like we finally know that Manaka was the one catching that umbrella, that's a great devellopement! xD
Also, I wonder what Miuna and Manaka holding holy fire under water meant.

I think I had a huge grin during all the episode. Seriously, it felt good to see Manaka silliness and Hikari being able to play with Manaka again.

So Manaka forgot about Tsumugu? I wonder what that mean. She also seem to have forgotten what happened before the Ofunehiki.

Chisaki seem to feel being left out. Also, I think that Tsumugu was expecting another reaction when he told her he was going to the university again. Her indifference must have hurt him.

Uroko is neear. I guess there will be some huge revelation soon. Also, I thought that only people with Ena could kneefish... The kneefishxTsumugu romance can start again! xD

I hope there's an happy ending for everyone, even though I don't believe it :P

For this show I enjoy reading the thread before watching the episode because it really shows the power that a shipping fixation has in distorting what people see.

I also find how the writers tricks the viewer interesting.

For instance with the trick, when Hikari confronted Manaka he did so not because he wanted her to answer but because he wanted to confirm something. The hint was what set Hikari off was the dullness of Manaka's eyes, and how she really wasn't acting like her self (which was why after he noticed her eyes he had that rapid flashback sequence). But the writer wanted people to think that Hikari was worried about Manaka and Tsumugu.

For Shipping blinders, Chisaki. Other people have commented on the coffee scene, but her whole discussion with Tsumugu while walking shows that far from being trapped in the past or trapped by her love with Hikari, she is the only one who gets the big picture. In short, not only is she already an adult (as shown by her taking care of the grandfather and becoming a nurse), but is in fact an extremely mature adult (realizing that she has to let the man she loves leave for a greater purpose impacting her friends).

This.

The changes to the opening are a little jarring. First we can see the parallels between Manaka waiting for the umbrella. She closes her fist. Miuna loses the red umbrella. The only person who repeats the closed fist action is Miuna. In the end, Manaka catches the umbrella.

My way out of left field theory is that Manaka is no longer whole, part of her was given to Miuna (ena) -> losing her ability to return to the sea/becoming a land dweller. It's like a mirror where Manaka is split into two halves. As to how she can become whole again, I think Hikari needs to show her the way/guide her home. How about that, Miuna and Manaka join their souls to become one person win win trolololololol yeah I'm not making sense, I just want to throw all sorts of theories around.

I thought the whole "Manaka lost her ability to love" theory was pretty dubious, until I rewatched the episode and noticed this:
At the start of the episode, when Hikari and Manaka just left the house, Hikari points out that Akira seems to like Manaka a lot. Then at 3:45 you see Manaka wondering aloud, "Like?" and sounding very confused by the word.
And remember the scene where Akira got burned by his soup? Manaka didn't seem very concerned about whether he was injured. Since "concern" in this case could be synonymous with "love" (i.e. why everyone was worried about Akira is because they love him in a sense), it further points to the theory that Manaka really lost her feelings.

5/5

Changes in skin texture that almost all the characters, and introducing many intriguing questions that make the rest.
Slow narration which could make it tricky vision, but the end is a Slice of Life we can feel good about this setting.
Drawings and OST pleasant in all, pity the opening advances what will happen in the future!
Beautiful two twists, although in the end turned out to be less impressive than they were a compliment to the director.

It's nice to see Manaka back into the group and she is energetic as always. Hikari seems to have noticed something strange about her and I wonder what she wanted to say to him at that time? Miuna is gradually become more of a person from the sea with the aftereffects taken place. Some moments between Chisaki and Tsumugu, I'm guessing this confirms their shipping or will things change once again!?

Never thought I would see that fish curse by Uroko again and this time on Tsumugu for some unknown reason but next episode seems to be focusing on him and another confession from Kaname to Chisaki?

I liked the small changes in the OP song!!!

I bet Manaka forgot her feelings for Hikari, hence why she didn't remember what she wanted to say after the Ofuneki. Hikari also thinks something was taken from her, and it wasn't just her Ena. It's almost reversed now: Manaka has no Ena and has no romantic feelings for Hikari, while Miuna now does have Ena and is practically throwing herself at him.

Guessing Manaka will reject Hikari in the next episode. I have a feeling Uroko-sama will intervene near the end of the season.

It sucked to be Chisaki.

Those creampuff, there's 5 of them... And the one who enjoyed them are the 5 14 years old... With her walking away.

Then she commented on how she might've prefered coffee-jelly over creampuff.

Those 2 scenes, as well as the bitter sweet look on her face. Not to mention Chisaki finishing her jelly quickly due to her dissatisfaction over Tsumugu leaving her alone at home.

Thankfully, Tsumugu noticed how sad she's feeling and is trying his best to tend to her. As futile his efforts were.

This is why I love Nagi no Asukara, they never told you straight up how one person is feeling, rather, you could pick it up from their facial expression, as well as the events that are happening around them.

From Kaname silently watching Tsumugu and Chisaki having great synergy, to Miuna blurting out words that hurt Hikari... To Manaka's optimism and the reaction of those 3 around her... To what I mentioned above.

The directing in this show is nothing short of amazing.

No I wasn't being sarcastic at all >.> I'll attempt to explain myself :3.

The earliest sign was episode 15 where he tried to console Chisaki because she was crying about how she has changed and that Hikari hasn't. Tsumugu said yes you have changed, but told her that she has gotten more beautiful. Chisaki was surprised by his comments, but continued to cry. Pretty blunt statement albeit short from a straight out confession.

Episode 20 was another indication that he loves/likes her. He said he once thought that it would be for the best if the people hibernating didn't wake up at all because he felt Chisaki would disappear from him. The reason being, the reappearance of Hikari and Kaname will cause a lot of unnecessary drama for his relationship with Chisaki. He thought maybe if Hikari (his main obstacle) disappeared Chisaki will finally look at him romantically. It was a pretty selfish statement but the point was clear. This was probably the biggest indicator aside from the plum wine scene that you just referenced.

Episode 21 (current)- The body language and dialogue in this episode also gave out hints but it's already pretty obvious at this point. Tsumugu was dejected that Chisaki responded nonchalantly about him going back to his university by the end of the month. Later on their way back home, he said a bunch of little things that triggered some flags like "I'll come back as soon as I can. I'll call you, etc" Chiskai later hits the nail on the head by asking him playfully are you going to be lonely? Tsumugu responds with "No you are." He also reads her correctly. She feels out of place because of the time skip. He cares for her emotional well being and knows that she is still conflicted about Hikari. Having Manaka back in the picture adds to this drama. TL/DR The guy doesn't want to be separated from her.

Long story short, the guy yearns for her affection but feels like he is getting no where unless Chisaki moves forward. However he continues to be very subtle at how he approaches her in dealing with this roadblock. He wants her to move forward but at the same time he doesn't want to hurt her by being blunt about it.

There have also been small hints even before the timeskip, like in episode 9 where Tsumugu tell Chisaki he doesn't dislike how she are now. Chisaki gets mad and leaves, while we later see Tsumugu feeling bad.

The Japanese kind of value their silence, though. Watch any independent Japanese film; you don't know true "silence" until you live through those moments...

I'm well aware that the Japanese value their moments of silence as something of a pleasantry, but I feel that that scene was not as such, a scene of quite contentment, but more a, I'm so uncomfortable in this room right now there is literally nothing I can say to you- scene. Maybe I'm just projecting, but thats honestly how I saw it.
