@LordKenji3011 I like to believe it's Aira herself, she have different hair color, but it's not problem to make her dye it, and dad himself could hire goons to kidnap her.

I don't think so, the child has different eyes and teeth as well, and yes, you can fix all of that, but.. I think the real kid is either dead (in better case), or suffering horribly somewhere 😔

For such a simple backstory, the anime staff involved with this episode did such an amazing job in bringing it to life and with tremendous direction, storyboarding, voice acting and music, elevated this to produce new emotional depths with this Acrobatic Silky backstory in the process. Aira giving Acrobatic Silky a sense of closure through such simple heroic acts like a warm hug and acknowledgment of 'mother' to give her peace to not be forgotten in the lost void was excellent stuff and gave her character a lot more humanized depth besides the over-the-top pretty girl facade. The whole episode on its own felt like a short film with how amazing the animation and direction levels were with this and boy did this live up and even exceed my expectations. Not like this backstory is the greatest among shounen manga I read initially, I liked it but it did feel like one in a dozen in a way. But the anime elevated that so much and gave it so much more raw emotion that it became unique in the process. I still think a couple episodes from Mushoku Tensei this year, Dangers in my Heart stood out a bit more to me than this, but this was not super far off from those levels.

In a way, I'm glad I'm watching this after all the actual hype died down for this episode while not really checking anime social media channels much either. Made me appreciate this even more without having a biased outlook on it.

The cinematic beginning of Aira's mother yokai bursting out of danger wanting to reach her daughter, both Momo and Okarun have no time to waste getting Aira to safety resisting her hair acrobatics, much less bickering at the minor things, to which it's a success getting the golden ball back...though at the sacrifice of Aira.

It's expected that having ordinary humans be gobbled up by spirits or yokai will assume them to be dead, and as much fault has Aira done to them, Acrobatic Silky offering her aura to revive her, it's a prospect that neither Momo nor Okarun will risk her life, but it has to be done. This reveals who Acrobatic Silky truly is: the single mother with her happy-go-lucky daughter, investing into her by giving acrobatic lessons to enrich her life...until the mark of people wrecking her entire family and kidnapping her daughter. The likeness of Aira thinking that Acrobatic Silky is her mother, and then the latter going on a trance to remember her as her daughter, it's quite the twisted logic as all of her aura is transferred to Aira, even if Turbo Granny downplays her significance as a lesser yokai.

Acrobatic Silky may have lost her daughter, but Aira giving her a sendoff to acknowledge that she is still her mother (in spirit), the world turns around a kind place, one soul at a time.

Quite the hyped episode, and the best episode of the year, no cap.

One of the most beautiful and saddest, gut wrenching episode that I have ever seen throughout my ever so small anime-watcher career of 30 years and even taking all media together

The flashback scene is simply a punch to the gut, that you do not even expect considering the overall tone of the anime so far. Everything about it is perfectly executed, scenery, perspective, pacing, audio, everything. You can strongly identify with the story, which is very much anchored in reality, making it all the more heartbreaking and in stark contrast with the overall supernatural theme of the manga/anime.

It had me bawling for hours. Even simply thinking about it is making me tear up, that is how powerful this episode/this scene is. I have read the manga, I knew what was coming, but the anime take/adaptation was so masterfully done that I still was not prepared.

12/10 episode, one of the most impactful anime episode that I ever seen

What a cheap tear-jerker. I wonder if among hundreds of sentimental responses to this episode, anybody ever questioned, even for one second, why did the "bad guys" in this flashback suddenly appeared out of nowhere? The mother's responsibility for endangering (and ruining) her child's life was left completely unaddressed.

Japan is not some third-world shithole. Angry men do not randomly appear out of nowhere wrecking apartments and kidnapping children. So I guess those were supposed to be yakuza/loan sharks? But in a country like that, an adult working 3 jobs in addition to whoring herself out should be able to make enough cash to support herself and a child. So by involving herself with criminals, the mother endangered her child. Yet the story doesn't put any blame on her.
That sentimental send-off by Aira loses it's charm when you consider what became of her real daughter. Was she sold into slavery? Or made a child prostitute? Or killed and harvested for organs? Or all of the above? Nah, doesn't matter. What matters is that Aira hugged Silky and called her Mommy.
I feel pity towards the girl whose mother didn't know better than to involve herself with criminals. But not towards the mother who was so irresponsible.

The absolute best episode I've seen all year even over some of my favorite series. The animation, the soundtrack, the story... Acro Silky really touched my heart, and her heart was human at the very end. I'm going to call my mom and cry now on Christmas Eve. What a banger.

Easily the most jaw-dropping episode of Dandadan by far! Acro Silky's backstory is THE reinforcement that portrays Dandadan as a whole as not just a simple silly shonen with aliens and spirits. It is also capable of delivering a dark depressing backstory for even a side character.

Damn, take any single parent's life story and you'll hear how much struggle they have and need to go through in order to support themself and their child(ren) all on their own, particularly more true for single mothers. This is a story of a single mother doing all kinds of odd jobs and even prostituion to give a good life for her daughter. Their life is humble but it's a happy life, as long as the daughter stands by the mother. They both could smile towards a brighter tomorrow. Until the typical parasitic debt collector decided to visit, abusing the mother until she's all red and blue as well as kidnapping her only source of happiness in her life, her daughter.

A part of me felt so eager for the mother to push through with all her cuts and bruises, surely her motherly instinct and the rush of adrenaline would give her the power and speed that would allow her to save her daughter right? But of course, reality is not such an idealistic place. It's depressing knowing that she didn't even die because of her injuries, the event that unfolded gave her such an overwhelming repair that all she could do was do one last ballet dance the way she taught her daughter, and leapt off the roof towards the afterlife. It's only when she was mistaken as Aira's mother that she found a purpose, long after her own death. Airi's warm hug and declaration of love is exactly the closure a grieving mother needed.

The anime adaptation should've clearly shown the leap of death.
Movie-grade episode.

This episode is super emotional I even cried for the first time to this show. After an intense battle with Acrobatic Silky, we got to see her tragic backstory where she lives as a single mother to a daughter, and her struggle to support her daughter. After losing her daugher, she died and became a yokai as she thinks Aira is her lost daughter as Aira can see spirits. Acrobatic Silky sacrifices herself to save Aira and Aira returns the favour by hugging her and calls her mom so she could pass onto the afterlife in peace. What a beautiful episode.
