| Oh, I assumed wrong last time. It was the complete opposite of what I initially guessed. It was the higher-status women who were the ones indulging in hedonistic debauchery, screwing gigolos...while Shenmei liked to watch. Freaky. When they flashed back to Loulan/Shisui chewing on the lantern flower berry, that got me a little curious about what other stuff may have mildly toxic/contraceptive effects. When you look at the labels on a bunch of drugs or even some food labels, you occasionally see warnings about how they shouldn't be consumed by pregnant women, not to mention the surprisingly large number of toxic household plants or garden plants in our everyday lives, usually grown for ornamental purposes. Maomao now realizes Shisui gave the children the resurrection medicine and left them to Maomao to ensure that they survive, although Shisui as an adult, plans to die along with the rest of the Shi clan. But Maomao still gave Shisui her hairpin stick, just like how she gave her gold one to Maomao that helped her easily survive that torture/execution pit. I guess this was foreshadowed when she first asked if Maomao was willing to give her that hairpin stick if she didn't mind. Since they could be considered best friends, I'm glad Maomao did give it to Shisui in the end as a "good luck charm," but with the stipulation that she expects to have it returned...and that was the best she could think of doing in order to not let Shisui go down with the rest of the clan, who are to be executed for rebellion. But her plan of trying to distance her sister from the clan won't work when you consider her direct involvement during the assassination attempt on the crown prince's life. I do hope both sisters survive though...they've been through far too much abuse by their scheming hag of a mother/stepmother. I loved it when Loulan/Shisui bitch-slapped that mother that tried to run away, who is neglecting her child so she can have fun screwing gigolos. You get what you deserve. Shishou finally finds out the extent of just how his eldest daughter was being treated and abused by Shenmei. It's good that he at least acknowledged his own shortcomings/failures as a father. I saw it in the preview from the last episode, but seeing Basan nearly sending the head of that one random soldier flying was more gory and brutal than I expected from this kind of show. The fights could have still used more frames and been more dynamic instead of being panning shots, but I'm glad they didn't hold anything back with censorship. I never expected this show to have an action subgenre budget, so that was enough for me. Very interesting to see Jinshi with a Dao sword. I would have expected him to wield a double-edged straight Jian that he kept in his room, as we saw him train with it in the previous season, especially considering his high status. But I guess the Dao would have absolutely been more practical on the battlefield with its heavier strikes and slashes that can overpower their opponent. Maomao at last finds out Jinshi's true identity. And we also reconfirm that he's not the 25-year-old fake eunuch persona but the 19-year-old royal prince. That would mean that Maomao is currently 18 years old at this moment. And Lihaku also learns that Maomao is the daughter of the strategist. Everybody is learning a new revelation this episode. And man, Lihaku has a heart of gold to go above and beyond to let the children be laid to rest, even at risk of facing punishment later. And his idea of Maoamo calling Lakan "papa" may not be the craziest idea, as it has a high likelihood of working. Next episode preview...was that Shenmei at the end? She looks quite young. She certainly did not age well at all... then again, I guess that's what happens when your heart is pitch black and cake on the clown makeup. No new episode next week due to tv broadcast reschedling, which sucks, but not the end of the world. I hope the animation team takes the extra week to really let this show cook...or they can take a rest, because they deserve it for giving us this amazing season. I saw the official AMV that also dropped...wow. Very well timed with the lyrics... I see what you did there, and may God bless whoever cut this AMV. |
| Jinshi as a leader is wonderful to watch. Finally he and Maomao meet after a while! Let's see what happens with that shenmei and I hope Loulan is forgiven! Also , what about the kids??? |

| The hairpin gives me hope for Shisui. I don't know how it will play out though. It's not like Shisui can display it to the royal soldiers as a token of trust since she could have easily stolen it from Maomao. Unless, of course, the soldiers don't know that Maomao had one. I think it's possible that Maomao convinces Jinshi to spare Shisui, but this requires Jinshi to trick the soldiers by convincing them that Shisui is a double agent, and using the hairpin as a sign. This is a stretch, but there's a 100% chance that the hairpin will be involved in the story. |
| I can't help but be disappointed by this episode. Yes, some parts are ok, but for the arc it represents I really expected a much better animation work. The last few episodes don't even come close to the best episodes of court 1 or episode 18. What happened to make the direction so flat and boring? Where are the vivid, slightly clumsy animations of season 1? |

| The abortion medicine which Loulan has been taking for quite sometime, as a way not to turn into the nasty mother she's become, it's the end of the road portraying herelf as Shisui. Still, Maomao can't afford to leave her alone, not just between her split personalities, and still be able to respect what she's trying to do with her last rites of the Shi clan, that's got to take some guts. That said, the strategist plan to counter the stronghold with the Royal Guard, and as soon as they're able to commence the attack. But for Shishou, having his life turned upside down from all that's he done and willfully so, not being able to control Shenmei and the like, their time ticks away once Jinshi arrives onto the scene and takes command of the Royal Guard to lay waste onto the Shi clan's stronghold. Still, between the two, they're just Jinshi and Maomao (not to speculate things further of their real identities), and it's business as usual with Lihaku and the others, as the rescue mission gets underway. For the friend whom Maomao can't just leave on the sidelines, Shisui cannot be ignored at all. |

| Good scene between Maomao and Shisui as a farewell.. and Shisui slapping Shenmei is what we wanted to see! Meanwhile the army led by Jinshi is finally there, especially when Maomao can meet Jinshi in this situation |

Still not comfortable with the fortress inhabitants getting executed. Soldiers fine but people living there, under duress by that bitch? And it looks like she gets away? I’ll be glad when this little subplot is over

@Comander-07 Kidnapped Maomao wasn't in their plans at all. Suirei only did it because Maomao figure out what their were plotting after talking to Shenlü.
They coundn't let her free because doing so would have exposed their true identities sooner, but they didn't have any part for her to play. Shisui even said that she didn't want to get Maomao caght up in the mix to begin with.

| Wait wait wait what a plot twist!! How didn't I think of it sooner, shinsui didn't poison them but instead gave them the death like elixir to make them look dead. I hope I'm right at least. If she did wow amazing writting, but how are they gonna save them tho? They are going to cremate them, but then again the guy with maomao said that he is gonna try to give them a secret burial so hopefully maomao can convicne him that she is going to do it on her own then somehow save them. I really hope I'm right, as annoying as that little brat is, I´ve really grown fond of him. |

| I only started watching the Apothecary Diaries again(at episode 21 maybe) recently, so it's been a bit challenging to keep up with all the lore from the past they bring up sometimes in terms of how the characters are related. Even before, it was challenging TwT. Maybe I should check the other episodes that bring that stuff up. I wonder what's gonna happen with Jinshi and Mao Mao in the next episode, now that Mao Mao knows his previous title at least. I'm kinda surprised that she wasn't more surprised discovering Jinshi's true identity. Also, what is "the rest" that Shisui wanted Mao Mao to take care of? |

Shisui's farewell to Maomao was sad, but seeing how he empowered her was very sweet. In the end Shisui, decided to stand up to her mother, though I doubt we'll see her again. Hopefully she manages to escape with Suirei and find a peaceful life. Watching Shisui slap Kyo's mother was incredibly satisfying: all those women had been completely corrupted by Shenmei's influence leaving their children to their fate.
And then there's Jinshi, who abandoned his dashing faux-eunuch persona to become a majestic warrior, the son of the moon, the prince, all to reunite with Maomao. When this battle is over, I want to see how the two will deal with each other now that Maomao knows his identity. But it's not over yet: Maomao still has to fulfill Shisui's last request.
And then there's Jinshi, who abandoned his dashing faux-eunuch persona to become a majestic warrior, the son of the moon, the prince, all to reunite with Maomao. When this battle is over, I want to see how the two will deal with each other now that Maomao knows his identity. But it's not over yet: Maomao still has to fulfill Shisui's last request.
