This episode feels like a really big return, even if I just ended the 2nd season last Sunday xD
Anyways, I feel like this episode really made a great job at setting the tone for the season. It had this darker and more serious vibe, and it seems the plot is getting even more serious now, so it makes sense. Also, it's interesting how they start the episode in the way then ended the 2nd season.
We get to know that the Evangelist's plan is to turn Planet Eath in basically a Star (another Sun), because why not I guess.
One of my main complaints with this episode is how the 1st' Captain just decided to go with the White Clad, because yes. Like, Haumea didn't give any new info besides the sun thing. I'm I really supposed to think Haumea was able to convince Burns to join their side, because she can read his mind? I know she can mess with people's minds, but it didn't seem the case here. Like, for real, all Haumea said "Trust me bro, this is what God wants", and Burns was like "Ohh, you could have said it sooner! Let's burn the world!"
Ahhh, the writing of this anime sometimes gets on my nerves...
Anyways, it's also incredible we were only a few minutes into the episode, and Tamaki was already getting half naked, like, c'mon, we have barely started this new season.
It seems this new arc is going to be that kind of arc where the heroes turn into "villains", and fight against their own. Curious to see how that plans out. But I'm sure they are not alone. You don't need to give more than 1 reason to make Shinmon fight against the Holy Church.
Also, not sure what to think about the Leader of the Church being on White Clad's side, was he always on their side, is Haumea behind this?
Also, can we talk about what was happening with Haumea in the beginning of the episode? I already found it weird in the end of the 2nd season, and it's still weird.
Obi was captured, and the 8th Squad is going to save their captain, not even considering the idea of not saving him. It's a obvious trap to capture Shinra (which, if I'm being honest, gets a bit on my nerves too, because there were 0 reasons for Charon not taking Shinra in back in the beginning of Season 2, when the 2 fought, but anyways),but I think they will be ready for whatever happens.
The Evangelist's plan is to make Obi turn into an Infernal, probably wanting a response from Shinra, but the preview of the next episode indicated that Joker is going to help our man Obi out.
The opening in the end of the episode was funny, not gonna lie. When I found out that Queen Bee were the ones behind this opening, I was really excited to hear it, since the other 2 songs I have heard from them, in the context of anime, were REALLY good (the opening they did for Dororo, and the ending they did for Chainsaw Man), certainly 2 of my favorite anime songs. But honestly, I was a bit disappointed with the opening, but I don't know if it was only a problem where I watched the episode, but the sound of the opening was really muffled for some reason. So I relistened to the opening in the Spotify version, and yes, the song is good, although I still don't think it's on the same level as the other 2 songs I mentioned. However, the opening really fits this more serious and darker theme of this new season, and it also indicated that there are going to happen some sad stuff in this season (hopefully not Obi's death), so it's a good fit for the anime, and I think the song will grow on me (I was already liking a lot more when I was hearing for the 3rd time while writing this post).
But the ending... well... it's questionable to say the least. I doubt it will grow on me, but let's see.
To end this off, I was honestly expecting a more vibrant episode in terms of animation, considering this is being released 5 years after the 2nd season, but the animation was overall on pair with the 2nd season I just watched, and I suppose they're saving the budget to the fights that really matter.
At the end of the day, this is still the Fire Force we know, so I liked this new start of season 3! Now I have to wait weekly for new episodes, was already getting used to watch this daily. |
