Hahaha. Honestly, I think you're all overreacting. That yaoi ova actually has a pretty decent MAL ranking and while I understand that it isn't everyone's cup of tea it's not like it's a bottom 100 hentai porno thing. It will probably be fluffy and not too unlike your standard reverse harem, just with more gay. Inoffensive and harmless.

I personally don't care. If I got crap, I would not read it and that's the end of it (I'd just choose something interesting from other submissions). But this club really does not lack activities pertaining to watching crap and it might be refreshing to maybe just once not have anyone submit it. So you'll all have to forgive me for being nonplussed by this practice.

I'll try and watch/read all the submissions that I haven't already completed. The ones dedicated to me are ok, well, the anime at least. Not sure what to think about the manga, but I'll read it even if it's bad, out of respect for the person that gifted it.

I must say that I find it somewhat ironic that Lordzeru and Ventris got two of the best entries on the entire list, especially Ventris' (for me anyway).

Whoever gave me Makai no Ossan. This is a really really weird pick to throw out there. True, each chapter is like 1 - 2 pages long. But it's still 300 chapters. Idk how to feel about this...

Not ironic, unjust. No, wait, they enjoy watching shit so...maybe this is some weird form of balance.

Are you enjoying the art in that manga?

It's not terrible. Pretty bearable actually. For a second, I thought I'd be dealing with borderline stick figures.

ONE has been improving with his art. It's by far the worst in One Punch Man, while in Mob Psycho 100, it's kinda fitting for that manga.

Yeah, I know you'd send him a link to Madokami, I was joking (and throwing the site name if someone else who might not know about it wants to read Ristorante Paradiso). As for MAL and whether it's allowed, talking about such a site should be fine, but no direct links.

Crap, sorry about that. I went through the list to make sure that no one got something that they had already seen but apparently not thoroughly enough. I probably got mixed up when I had to swap a few people's results for this reason.

I randomised the list of entries again and came up with... Zeta's shounen-ai OVA lol. Well, if he isn't going to watch it somebody else may as well :P

I finished Metropolis. The animation was smooth and the attention to detail was superb. Even minor characters in a three second scene were moving fluidly and the backgrounds were gorgeous. The music was good too. A beautiful film presentation-wise. Besides that subjects of classism, revolution, fascism, elitism, and robot autonomy all were covered. The film seemed like it was trying to say a lot of things at the same time and for the most part it did quite well. My biggest gripe (and praise) was the it went to so many places. To see more of this behemoth of a city was a treat, however, the interactions during this fast paced ride seemed to be brief. The main characters, Kenichi and Tima, were always moving, running away from Rock, or meeting new characters as they went. It seems that they were out of the frying pan and into the fire, not giving much time to take a breather. So, the pacing was a bit of an issue for me. As I try to write my head is spinning a bit. Hahahaha. As for the characters I enjoyed how different they were in their goals and in how they looked. There's a politician with a god complex, a shady old scientist, a logical robot detective, a somewhat goofy detective, an active boy, an innocent mysterious robot, an passionate revolutionary leader, and a robot hunter with black and white morality. The film was an enjoyable watch for a Sunday afternoon. Thank you to whoever recommended it.

So, I've watched and read my gifts. Definitely enjoyed There She Is more than Scumbag Loser.

To be completely frank, when I tried watching There She Is a few years back, the bad Korean pop rock in the first episode, and what was going on really didn't catch my attention as anything worthwhile. So I figured, if someone went through the trouble of nominating it, it must be worth something, and after having watched it, I can say that it does. The cute cheesy romance escalated quick after the third episode, and I wasn't really sure if the discrimination was supposed to point fingers at the current relationship between South Korea and Japan, or was it just an excuse for a star-crossed lovers scenario. Didn't know what to think about that, but then the last episode rolled in, and it had this silly energy that makes you root for the tenacious bunny, and the initially unwilling cat. Definitely a pleasant watch.

Scumbag Loser turned out to be something like Tokyo Ghoul: Obese Edition. There were many directions it could've gone, and I was hoping it would be something like a middle ground between reality and the main character being delusional, but that wasn't the case. I'm not even sure that the author intended for things to go this way, as the preview after volume one (maybe purposely misleading) shows a different kind of development. The characters were pretty bad, and by that, I don't mean as morally corrupt individuals they were portrayed as. If I could name a single thing that I liked in this manga, it would probably be the message that even the biggest scum has someone that needs them... except that notion never really got substantiated, at all. And the twists near the end make even Elfen Lied seem like a cleverly crafted story. To whoever picked this out, thanks for the effort, but I barely got any enjoyment out of it.

Whoever gave me Omoide Emanon, thank you. It was a really amazing read. I think i actually needed something like tihs. It's really, really simple story, but it was done in such way that made me like it a lot. The art was simple, it was really easy on the eyes and I think i did a good idea listening to dream pop/shoegaze while reading this. It was so good that i feel like it just speed through it even though i didn't want to do. I fell in love with it, time to read the "sequel" then.

Somewhat late to the party, but I finished my anime and manga gifts. Neither of them are the type of thing I am typically interested in, but I really enjoyed them both.

Pale Cocoon was a really neat short film, even though I didn't really understand what was going on until I read an analysis on it, and Hikari no Machi was a very thought-provoking dark slice of life (I enjoyed it a little more than Solanin, the only other Asano work I have read). Thank you to the people who submitted them.

Let's say that you, as the resident Asano appreciator, were the prime suspect. Overall, I enjoyed the manga although I felt the ending left something to be desired, which is why I scored it 7 instead of 8 (it's kinda between 7 and 8 for me).

It's amazing how ahead of its time Claudine is, dealing with transexuality and homosexuality in such a respectable way. But I felt that there was way too much drama. Barely any build-up and barely any breathing before the next tragedy would befall Claudine (character). The end had a lot of pay-off and was impactful though, showing the destructive effects of non-acceptance.

I liked both of my gifts, and there were both things I normally wouldn't have tried out. Thank you Xykko and Nidhoeggr.

Finally went through Suiiki and I'm quite glad I got it. I did pass it by during the manga readalong mainly due to my laziness but I am glad that I did eventually read it--especially during the middle of my summer. I really loved the style of the Mushishi author where the supernatural elements were just a fact of the world and used it to really bring out the best of the story. Really liked it, definitely right up my alley. Thanks, Hitsu.

Glad you liked it. Funnily enough I initially didn't even submit that one - though since Nagisa was quicker to submit what I initially wanted, I had to pick another one instead and chose Suiiki. Seems like that turned out to be a stroke of luck, haha.

Other than that, I finally got around to watching Colorful. I already read Benkei in New York a while ago and definitely did enjoy it (so thanks, Hias!), though Colorful... I don't know, it just didn't really click with me. OST was quality as expected from Otani, but other than that...

Well I finally watched Tekkon Kinkreet. Quite of an interesting movie, that's for sure.

The story and its themes are quite straightforward but still, I like how it portrays a dualist nature between the MCs Kuro and Shiro. Overall I found it rather simplistic, but amusing to watch.
