| That was a great episode. I loved that they didn't show what happened untill the end of the episode. I really like the OP and ED. So far I'm really liking it. So I'm guessing Rei gets a proper introduction next episode and school life? Gotta say I didn't expect that in this show. I guess he should go to school since he's 14. I mean no one ever talks about it... I wonder why. Looks like he's popular. This could only go well. |

| Good episode, I liked that it had also some light hearted moments and the interaction between the rather reserved Shinji and outgoing Misato was fun. Eva-01 is pretty OP. |

| Y'know, Gendo, when your kid goes on the battlefield and almost dies for you, I think at least a "You did well." would be customary. Asshole... Why are all of Evangelion's girls so perfect? I thought from the artwork and clips I'd seen I was an Asuka guy, but I'm also down for Misato. When the camera panned to her backside during the scene when they were eating dinner together, I saw something a little tastier than an instant meal. ;) Plus she stepped in where Gendo should have and told Shinji what a brave and noble thing he did piloting the EVA, and that he should be proud. Good girl. |

| For a 1995 anime, the berserk fight animation there was high quality! It's getting better now and Shinji is starting to at least get settled even if it's a little bit. So far he does not annoy me, reactions such as 'I am scared of the angels' in this initial episodes are acceptable... |

| I loved how first half of the episode had no music at all, it really made the atmosphere. Makes you feel how every character is deep in thought, everyone in his own world. Enjoyed first 2 episodes very much. |

| The Eva having a living thing inside it (aside from the pilot) will certainly be an interesting angle. It must play an important part in the technology. |

| Interesting, I remeber him not pussy out because he saw Rei and they I remember him fail. And I thought Rei in the end get up and save him. So this berserk state I knew it was coming one day, but he really did defeated the Angel himself. I am really starting have interest in this serie more then before. Also what's up with that Captainess? Is she into young boys or not? |

| This was one of the first anime series I saw, and still one of my favorites. After a few years I am finally rewatching it... and it's still awesome! Shinji is one of my favorite characters, despite what people say. I only find a certain character later on pretty annoying, but even that one's behaviour is very justified in the bigger context and shows that this series is primarily a character piece. Though I do love the classic action scenes, which really show the impact the attacks have, and can be quite brutal at times, and very creative at others. The comedy in this episode particularly didn't work for me, though I do like Penpen. Then again, penguins are my favorite animals, so I am prejudiced. :P |
| Well, stuffing a random teenager without training in a giant robot to fight something thay's immune to all other human weapons is bound to not end up well but it's a surprise that it went berserk and did all the work itself though. Katsuragi got herself another new roommate but I guess that she wouldn't have much trouble taking care of him since a penguin's a handful already. I didn't expect fanservice in this anime but most of it was of Shinji anyway so it barely counts. |

| Another great episode! I always wonder why people hated Shinji. Maybe later on he's going to turn into a prick, but the first two episodes. It's understandable why he felt like that. I'm glad Mistao was there to cheer him up. It seems no one even cares what he feels and just being used by everyone. At least Misato tries to act like she cares, despite still needing to use him for the benefit of mankind. Misato is pretty wild in her life! I always prefer girls like her that is not afraid to express themselves even if it's not within her age. Cathedral said: Shinji's too sensitive to be compared to Amuro Ray. He's just being pushed into an unfamiliar and uncomfortable position by father with whom he's had a rocky relationship...I sympathize with him. From the looks of this episode, NGE is going to be more psychological than action-oriented. I definitely liked how that was handled in this episode. :) Bah. And I love this opening. <3 It reminds me of Fushigi Yuugi's. Agree, though Amuro was able to adapt quickly in battle due to him being Newtype. Shinji will probably do the same later on. Onto the next one! |

Absolutely. Even back in the day when it first came out in English, I didn't understand why people reacted so strongly to him. Of course he's whiny and dejected. Just put yourself into his shoes. Your father is an asshole who has been absent from your life, finally calls you up, only to force to board a giant purple mecha, breathe liquid oxygen and fight a gigantic alien that has been able to defeat the combined might of the military. I was just referring to the needless sexualizing, don't really mind if they go off on robot specifics, those parts aren't "necessary" per se, but they do add to the story in that they help the viewer understand the mechanics of what's going on during a fight scene, which could inform why something happens in a fight. The crotch shots however, no one needs that shite. This show thus far is just so horny for no reason. As an aside, I'd slightly disagree with your strict definition of fanservice. While it is possible to mislabel something as fanservice, I would argue that just because it serves the plot does not mean that it isn't fanservice. For example, most of Star Wars Ep. VII. There's a lot of stuff that happens in that movie that advances the plot that is also certainly fanservice, like the way they . In the case of that movie, you could even argue the plot itself is fanservice. |

| what a great intro i love it i love it troubled protagonist struggling to understand his place in the world who is thrust into a difficult unfamiliar situation where he finds some kind of inner strength to go berserk (i think? unless it was the eva?) i love it i love it what an awesome fight scene at the end i love it i love it fly me to the moon as the outro i love it i love it |

| Misato seems like a nice person, on one hand it's nice of her to let Shinji live with her, since living alone can sometimes suck, but on the other she is still doing her job, getting Shinji fit to piolet that Eva i guess. Jesus christ so thats how Shinji used Unit 01 to beat the Angel. Is that normal? Is the Eva suppose to do that whole Beserk thing, and how in the hell did it even do that? Either way i didn't expect it to do, what it did, kinda felt bad for that angel thing but yeh. You can also tell it's fucking traumatised Shinji, 2 episodes in and the MC is already getting PTSD. |

| relationship building, mostly book ending the action is bold, but when it hits, it truly does... the silence is almost more devastating though, as a response and used with intention... truly terrifying ending love the quirky humor, regardless of how inappropriate it feels at times. |
| Are these mechs alive or seomthing? I'm curious. I appreciate the lighter-hearted scenes such as the ones between Misato and Shinji. Wow, Shinji's scream was so strong. This anime has an interesting darkness but also good humour. I wonder when the famed Asuka appears? |

 Tbh, the fan service people are complaining about isn't too horrible, I don't think. Compared to the hundreds of others I've seen. I guess it's subjective. I think it's about to get a lot worse, but this episode was pretty tame imo. Some angles were unnecessary, though. But the sexualized dialogue wasn't overplayed. I liked when she picked up the beer can to reveal a container of toothpicks. I like to think that it's a metaphor hehe. For, you know.. |
 We need more people talkin about the scream during the eye scene. Very well executed on the VA's behalf. |
| Good episode. Robot went to fight back for reasons I no longer know of. Maybe NGE took a thing or two from Nakama power. Shinji moving in to Katsuragi's place only to be the fanservice centre is a new one. Gotta love the penguin most of all tho. |
