Okay, this is a bit different than the What are you currently watching in that I only want to see what seasonal animes are on your plate. I haven't read anything from anyone about what they are watching this winter. I also haven't read anything that sounds like a "must see tv" series.

So what are you watching and why?
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

So, for the winter 2014 season I sampled 3 shows
1. Noragami. Pauper God with delusions of Grandeur. Not the best personality and has trouble keeping his shinki (supernatural intelligent weapon} because they think he is a jerk. Human girl tries to save him from a speeding truck and she has her spirit separated from her body whenever she passes out or falls asleep. She becomes his follower in the hopes he can correct her situation. Watched 2 eps. This could go either way but I will continue to watch.

2. Space Dandy. This one is totally wacky and cartoonie. I'll watch it when more episodes come out. Jury's out on this.

3. Pupa. A horror story with 3 min episodes, it seems like a stupid idea. Wait till finished and put the episodes together into one movie.

• The second season of Gin no Saji: I’m still reading the manga and I really enjoyed the first season. It’s fun in a wholesome way and a nice spin on the usual high school comedy. Bonus: I’ve learned a ton of stuff about farming in Hokkaido LOL.

Wake Up, Girls!: Idols shows are usually a no-go but this one seems intent on sidestepping some of the tropes that often plague the genre while keeping things fairly “realistic”. The fact that it takes place in Sendai two years after the tsunami is a big plus for me.

Tonari no Seki-kun: What’s getting me hooked on this show isn’t really Seki-kun’s insane contraptions but the way Yokoi gets dragged into them. At 7mn, it’s a really nice little pick-me-up. I’m not sure it will hold my interest for 21 episodes though…

Space Dandy: Great opening, awesome ending and pretty cool animation throughout. Waiting to see if it’s actually going to venture beyond mindless slapstick comedy.

Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta: I’m still on the fence about that one. I haven’t seen Toaru Hikuushi e no Tsuioku so the universe is new to me and fairly interesting. Whether I drop it or not will depend on how dimensional the characters are (it doesn’t look very promising).

Noragami: I’m digging this one. Fun characters with the right mix of cuteness and backbone, great animation, decent premise and a killer opening. We’ll see what the overarching plot is like now that exposition is pretty much over but it’s probably a keeper.

Inari Konkon Koi Iroha: I’ve only seen the first episode so the jury is still out. But I’ve got a soft spot for kitsune, the Fushimi Shrine which serves as a backdrop is an amazing place and I love me a girly Inari god that plays otome games when the faithful aren’t looking. So yeah, I may stick with that one.

• And I’m still watching Dia no Ace, Kuroko no Basuke and Yowamushi Pedal.

WOW! Watched the first episode of World Conquest Zvezda Plot. Think I'm gonna love this! An adorable half-naked loli girl that rides a pink bike with training wheels conquers the world.

That's not a spoiler, it's revealed at the beginning of the first episode.

Think Kick Ass Japanese style.

I'm going to wait till there are more episodes available before continuing.

Alright for the Winter Season what I am watching... or what I plan to watch are...

Noragami

Buddy Complex

Nobunaga The Fool

Hamatora

Z/X Ignition

I still think the biggest let down of the season has got to be Pupa though...

Did you guys watch Pupa censored or uncensored? I know Crunchy is running the censored version and although I understand why that is, the cut scene in the first episode really bugged the hell out of me since the format is already so short. Just wondering if any of the fansubbibg groups is working off the uncensored version...

I watched mine on Crunchy, but I had been reading the manga as well and they left out a lot in the first episode. Understandable with it being so short, but after that I had no wish to continue watching it. I love the Horror genre and was excited when this was first announced, too bad they couldn't have at least made it 15 minutes.

This time, I've only put airing works in my currently watching section. (The ones that I will strive to continue, but have already finished airing, I have moved to the on-hold section for easier update management.)

Although I made the same mistake of following around 3 dozen this season, it's not as bad as the previous. At least six of those are shorts, one of which will be ending quite soon. I've also slapped eleven "low priority" labels in contrast to the six from before.

Current faves for humor are Hoozuki no Reitetsu and Mikakunin de Shinkoukei, but Witch Craft Works and Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezdais are similarly hilarious.

My top anticipated in order are Log Horizon, Magi S2, Diamond no Ace, Tokyo Ravens, and Strike the Blood which all began last season. (I've lost much of my flame for Samurai Flamenco.) Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta and Noragami seem promising.

First episode of Gin no Saji S2 somehow made me slightly depressed. I'm also sad that the voice actor for Netero of Hunter x Hunter (2011) passed away. (Ironic, spoiler deleted.) He was the seiyuu of Happousai from Ranma 1/2.
Naysayers almost effortlessly make the possible seem impossible since they usually just parrot generalized, oversimplified, or uninspired arguments. However, the proper, but significantly more difficult way to refute an idea is to discredit all major and most minor cases. In contrast, a single convincing solution can prove feasibility though it isn't a trivial pursuit either.

I wouldn't call Magi S2 as a seasonal series. From the looks of it, it turned into a endless series, much like Space Brothers.

I usually watch a lot of anime early in a season, but it will be a month before I know what I'm watching for the whole season, as some stuff likely gets dropped.

I didn't pay much attention to this years anime, but I noticed Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha. It's already 7 episodes into this season. I guess after reading some of the manga I now want to watch it.

I also saw an spring season anime, Isshuukan Friend. Okay, it's an amnesia series. The twist is that the girl's (main character) forgets things from the previous week. Go figure.

I watched the first episode of Knights of Sedonia. So I imagine this is what happened in the production office when they got the licence to animate this:

Producer 1: Wow, this is some insanely detailed and stylish art in this Manga. How are we going to translate that onto the screen?

Producer 2: By using shitty CGI that would be unfit for a video game cut-scene from the turn of the century, of course!

Producer 1: Genius!!!

Seriously, someone needs to get punched for this!

Prepare yourself for a lot of WTF in Mekakucity Actors. In fact, your method of watching is probably best for this show. Marathoning will lead to quick answers instead of the week to week confusion I am currently experiencing 2 episodes in.

One of the reasons I want to watch Mekaku City Actors was because it is by the same studio that did Bakemonogatari which I loved. With that in mind, I checked out the first episode and it really has that Bakemonogatari feel. I am really looking forward to this show.

My thoughts exactly. I have the same feeling of WTF am I watching with Mekaku City Actors that I got from Sasami-san. It's like SHAFT taken to the extreme.

And then there is Ping Pong which I find utterly addictive and Sidonia no Kishi which I find utterly disturbing.

And finally, there is the new season of Mushishi. That one is just pure bliss.

I'm still on the fence about the new JoJo's though.

So far I'm watching:

One Week Friends: The FEELS.

Is This Order A Rabbit?: Cute.

Mushishi Zhou, because I loved the first season and OVA.

Mekkaku City Actors: Because I hear hype and looks cool. Hopefully this doesn't leave me scratching my head like Bakamonogaratari did.

Kamigami no Asobi: Yeah, it's a reverse harem: Stick some famous gods like Apollo, Hades, Loki, etc, make 'em bishified and stick 'em in a school. Put a human girl in there as the love interest and hijinks ensue. It's hilarious and entertaining actually.

Kindaichi Returns: I like detective shows.

The Kawai Complex: This is really, really funny thanks to the supporting cast more than anything.

I'm watching a whole lot of anime this season but so far there are 3 that are really standing out:

Hitsugi no Chaika: I love Chaika. Ppl might find the way she talks stupid but I can't help wanting to cuddle her for it. All.Day.Long. Also, her kickass protector and the choreography of the fights rock.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Nice action with a light dip into social criticism and a likeable mc. And a really funny twist to the common brocon/siscon trope.

No Game No Life: I have so much fun with this one. Love the humor and the references to computer games. There are few other animes on my list that match NGNL for rofls per episode.

The only one I have been watching is the second season of Love Live. This heartwarming, idiotically positive show for some reason appeals strongly to me. I'm ordinarily among the most pessimistic of cynics, but sometimes something can blast through my cynicism and actually make me feel good. I just wish the animation of the musical sequences wasn't so lifeless. If the animators who made the Hollywood cartoons of the 1940s look so good could somehow be resurrected and reanimate the musical sequences of Love Live, it would be a masterpiece.

I plan to start watching Akuma No Riddle before long; the concept looks interesting.

I got a very late start this season so I ended up marathoning a bunch of shows and this is what remains at the halfway point:

Aldnoah.Zero: Brings nothing new to the table and isn’t really my cup of tea. I’m just there to hear Nakai voicing Marito.

Barakamon: I’m loving that one (I’ve got a soft spot for shows taking place in the boonies anyway).

Zankyou no Terror: I’m still on the fence but at the very least, it’s got a great OST (no surprise there) and some pretty stellar production values.

… and surprisingly, that’s it for the new shows, which makes it a pretty lackluster season in my book.

I'm still sticking to Diamond no Ace (hurray for getting 2 extra cours!), Haikyuu!! (cutest sports show ever!) and JoJo's (which I should have dropped a long time ago but it's kinda too late now).

Here's what I may (or may not) be watching from the last batch of 2013 shows:

Mushishi Zoku Shou - 2nd season: No need to wait for the first episode to know it will be a keeper.

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu: Grotesque horror gratefully uncensored and expertly produced (this is Madhouse at the top of its game). It's fun and gripping and I can't wait to see where it's going.

Psycho-Pass 2: It's probably going to take a couple more episodes before I make up my mind. I'm not convinced I need to watch more from that franchise and I'm seriously dreading having Tsunemori carry most of the story. Having Gino-chan on the other side of the fence sure is nice though.

Fate/Stay Night: Pretty much same opinion as above except replace Tsunemori with Rin. I hope Gilgamesh and Kotomine will save the day somehow but there are just way too many teenagers around for my taste right now.

Gugure! Kokkuri-san: Daisuke Ono is a riot, the guys are real lookers and Hirohashi's deadpan delivery is hilarious. There's although something quite poignant floating around which may make it more endearing than its basic 4-koma comedy nature gives it any right to be.

Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road: This is clearly a case of "I've invested too much time in a series to not keep watching even though I should really just drop it". Oh well...

Hm. I've got kind of a crap season this year with my preference for legal streams. Only 9 of my projected 17 titles are licensed with only 3 left to broadcast. (Nobody licensed KyoAni's Amagi Brilliant Park? Seriously? Talk about crap taste.)

So this is what I'm looking at.

Amagi Brilliant Park
Log Horizon 2
Girl Friend Beta
Psycho-Pass 2
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken
Shigatsu wo Kimi no Uso
Grisaia no Kaijitsu
Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
Ookami Shougo to Kuro Ouji
Denkigai no Honya-san
Trinity Seven
Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de
Bonjour Koiaji Patisserie
Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete
ShiroBako
Sanzoku no Musume Ronia
Mushishi Zoku-Shou Second Season

Carry over SAO 2, Yama no Susume 2, and Sailor Moon Crystal... Maybe I do need to cut down a bit.

Here's where I'm standing at midseason with the currently airing shows. Rather than ranking them on a numeric scale, I'm grouping them on my buy it/stream it/screw it scale.

Series that I will buy for my DVD/Blu-Ray collection at (almost) any price, barring a complete meltdown in the remaining episodes:
Fate/Stay Night: UBW
Yuki Yuna is a Hero (interested to see how Pony Canyon prices this show, since they're a first-time distributor in the US, but I really want to see the battle episodes in Blu-Ray on a proper TV)

Will consider buying if the price is reasonable enough:
Rage of Bahamut
Inou Battle

Enjoying in streaming, but no plans to buy (assuming they even got a US DVD release, which they probably won't):
I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying
Kaitou Joker
Kokkuri-San

Not sure yet if I'm going to finish or drop at some point:
Celestial Method
Daitoshokan
Sailor Moon Crystal

After the 12-episode shows are done, I plan to go back and catch up with Parasyte and Your Lie in April and finish out the rest of the seasons for those two shows too (assuming I like them).

All right, these are the shows I'm eyeballing from the winter season:

Assassination Classroom
Death Parade
Kantai Collection
Koufuku Graffiti
Military
Rolling Girls
Saekano: How To Raise a Boring Girlfriend

I don't know if I'll actually commit to all seven, but I'll at least give them a try (assuming they all get legal streaming - no one's picked up Koufuku Graffiti yet). Regardless, I definitely won't be carrying as many shows as the fall, where I was up to ten at one point. Which is good, since it'll free up more time to work off my back catalog.

Looks like I'm gonna have a full plate this winter:

Death Parade: I loved the Anime Mirai short so I've been really curious to see if they can expand on its concept. The first episode had all the bells and whistles lined up perfectly but lacked depth and complexity. Still, it's such a fun idea that I'll probably just gobble up the whole season.

Yuri Kuma Arashi: There is no way I would pass on it, not after the insanity of Penguindrum. The first episode had me interested but not particularly engaged. Then again, there's enough symbolism crammed in there than I can almost appreciate it as I would an abstract painting. Almost.

Shounen Hollywood s2: I'm hoping the show will stick to his gun and continue its relentless but not unkind commentary on everything that is both good and completely rotten about the world of idols. Fun stuff and a good palate cleanser before UtaPri starts again this Spring.

JoJo's: I've stuck with Stardust Crusaders though a lot more thins than thicks but it will hopefully all be worth it when we reach the final boss. The sooner the better.

Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!: I am not watching this for the cute boys. Really. Even though said cute boys transform into even cuter magical boys. I'm watching it because Takamatsu's at the helm and his Daily Lives of High School Boys had me in hysterics with every single episode. And yup, that first episode cracked me up.

Durarara s2: I honestly didn't think they would make more of it. Here's to hoping it takes it's cue from the first half of the original series rather than the last.

Kuroko s3: I'll be squealing along with all my girlfriends!

And I will continue:

Ace of Diamond: it did try my patience a bit during the fall but the last 3 episodes were absolutely stellar so now I'm in love all over again.

Kiseijū: it's been a bit of an inconsistent ride for me but not enough to make me loose interest and the hubby's hooked so I guess it's here to stay.

YowaPedal: what can I say, I should really just let it go but I can't. I really do miss its more humble beginnings though.

Phew...

Here's my initial list of Spring shows. I'll at least be watching the first episodes of all of these - beyond that, we'll see.

[*] The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato
[*] Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works 2
[*] Food Wars
[*] Gunslinger Stratos
[*] Hibike! Euphonium (was very happy to hear today that Crunchyroll will get this, after the last couple of KyoAni series I was interested in went unlicensed)
[*] Houkago no Pleaides
[*] I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying 2nd Thread
[*] Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon?
[*] Kaitou Joker 2
[*] Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid (looks like this is going unlicensed, so I'll have to do some hunting for fansubs or streams somewhere because I'm NOT going to miss it)
[*] Ore Monogatari
[*] Plastic Memories

I can't imagine that I'm going to have time to stick with 12 shows all season (13 if you count Assassination Classroom, which I'm carrying over from winter) - if my past track record holds up I'll end up dropping at least 4 or 5 of these (7 or 8 seems to be about the most I can normally keep up with), but I couldn't even begin to guess which ones at this point. I'd pegged Food Wars as a potential early casualty, but its first episode was so entertainingly over-the-top ridiculous that now I'm actually looking forward to seeing more of it.

First two episodes of Rolling Girls are great. After that...meh. I ended up dropping it after episode 5 - what I heard from people who stuck with it is that the music and animation were nice, but the story turned into a mess.

I never watched Yatterman - the scouting report I got is that it starts well and ends well, but the middle part is a slog.

The funniest shows out of my winter group were Saekano (as long as you don't mind "meta" humor, because it's one of those shows that loves breaking the fourth wall) and Assassination Classroom. Koufuku Graffiti had its moments too, but that show was more warmly amusing than LOL hilarious.

Definitely:
• UtaPri – Season 3
• Kekkai Sensen
• Ace of Diamond – Season 2
• Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold

Most likely:

Probably:

Maybe:

• Digimon tri

And for the first time in a long while, I’ve got nothing to carry over.

@griftamal: I think it says something about the sheer quantity of new anime being made these days that we can both have too many new shows that we want to watch, and yet only have two shows in common between both of our lists.

And yet between the two of us, we barely have 50% of the season covered... I guess it also speaks to the amazing increase in immediate availability. If I had to hunt and/or wait for shows, I probably would be a lot more picky about what I commit to watching.

Also, you gotta love this club for how varied its member's tastes are.

Very true. I tend to stick to Crunchyroll's streams because that's where I have my subscription, and I don't have to worry about delaycasts and commercials (Funi non-subscription viewing), or the hassle of locating torrents (going the fansub route). Now this season I'm Funi-watching Yuki Nagato and fansubbing the unlicensed Nanoha Vivid because I love both those franchises and refuse to miss them, but I wouldn't go to all that trouble for just any series. If I had to do that for every new show I wanted to watch, my list would be much, much shorter.

There are a few shows I am really enjoying so far...but one that has stood out. I watched it randomly and the format is STRANGE...and I found I loved it. It's called Show By Rock!!

Okay, here's my picks (so far) for the spring.

Hibiki! Euphonium - It's not K-ON! like a lot of people want it to be (the people who say this are pure idiots). It did start off slow. I know it will get better.

Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu - A nice spin-off/what if..? of [/b]The Disappearance of Hurahi Suzimiya[/b] movie.

These are the only two I've seen so far. I have d/led Arslan Senki and waiting on Haikyu! 2
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?
