| I don't think that any series which I follow is returning then (unless Dorohedoro does as its definitive season and airdate is still unlisted in lieu of a just general and vague "2026" - its first season did air in the winter season of 2020, but I have a feeling that it's going to be either spring or later, considering the already existing delays which saw it pushed back from a release this year in 2025). So then it's only new series, among which, from what I've seen (but should probably comb the winter 2026 MAL seasonal chart soon), it's only The Darwin Incident and Kaya-chan isn't Scary. The Darwin Incident is my most anticipated/awaited new series of the entire upcoming year, so that goes without saying is #1. And the other is, like a lot of seasonals, more of a "Try the first episode, give it a shot, and see how it is" type of situation. The main reason I'm interested in trying that one is because it's at least partially a horror and as many know, horror is scarce and slim pickings. I wonder how different it will be, in either a positive or negative direction, from the other two series which came out in the past few years and seem like would be its closest points of comparison - Mieruko-chan and Dark Gathering (former I gave a 7/10 and latter a 6/10, so both have the potential to be way better or way worse and this has the potential to be anything). |

| Winter 2026 is absolutely stacked. Besides the obvious gems like Frieren, JJK and Jigokuraku, I am personally hyped for Chained Soldier S2. The consensus regarding first season was that it was underwhelming, but I enjoyed it very much. And now that Passione is taking over as a studio, which specialises in echhi anime, I am even more hyped. |

| The Darwin Incident is the new anime that I am most excited for in Winter 2026. It covers a concept that was never explored in anime as much, one that I am already very interested in myself. For sequels, Frieren and Jigokuraku season 2 take first place. But JuJutsu Kaisen season 3 is also up there for me. |

| This is what I've got on my plate combined with my short impressions, ranked from most to least hyped: Medalist S2 - Great show, hope it continues that momentum Golden Kamuy S5 - See Medalist Fate/strange Fake - Didn't care for Durarara but the trailers look gorgeous and it's got a pretty meganekko JJK S3 - I read the manga so I'm a little hesitant to hype this one up but at the very least, I'll get to see some of my scrunklos in anime form Hell's Paradise S2 - See Medalist All You Need is Kill - Looks... interesting and it must have some potential if people keep adapting it Cosmic Princess Kaguya - It looked intriguing and has a reputable director and it's a movie, sure, why not Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table - Dumbass death game? We'll be there Trigun Stargaze - I liked Stampede but I didn't think we needed a second season so I'm very curious to see how they do it You and I Are Polar Opposites - Lapin Track is in my good books as a studio that'll show out regardless of the quality of the actual show (cough cough SHOSHIMIN) and I thought this show's manga was cute, so I am decently hyped Sentenced to be a Hero - Usually, I don't pick up fantasyslop, but this one had enough of an interesting hook for me to at least check it out Oshi no Ko S3 - I'm only here to see it through, I've read the manga and didn't particularly care for it or the anime Frieren S2 - Hated S1, the manga isn't much better, see OnK Mayonaka Heart Tune - I wouldn't watch this but my oomf is watching it because Suisei's doing the OP, I doubt I'll finish this one tbf |

| Ikoku Nikki. Good to see so many people mention this one. A quiet josei drama about a writer and her niece sounds so ordinary that it's interesting. Really enjoyed some other works from the studio - Shuka did Natsume Yuujinchou and Yuzuki Family's Four Sons, both were very good quality. Darwin Incident and Prism Rondo are the only other new shows that I have some expectations for. Hikuidori sounds cool on paper, but the animation quality is concerning. Will be trying a few others once the season starts. (And Frieren, Golden Kamuy and Medalist are the must-watch sequels) |
