Damn, Hinako felt the emotional weight this episode with that despair. Turns out, she did have a desire to die with her family in the past.

Miko is her emotional support so she's definitely far more important than being just for her this episode as a friend. Probably the most the amount of despair coming from Hinako I've seen this series yet.

Poor Hinako is feeling really desperate. It's sad to see her suffer so much. :( Fortunately, Miko is trying to do her best for her. She's such a great friend.

Miko's facial expressions and tantrums are always so hilarious.

AAAAAAAAAAAA the amount of tears flowing down my face.

Of course Miko knew all along what Hinako wanted, and hearing that directly from her would definitely hurt. Even if Hinako has Miko to lift her up, her pain is just too much. May Hinako realize that she has 2 friends that cares so much about her and that it is okay to continue living. Watching her run towards the ocean was just painful to watch.

And now Shiori is finally trying to talk it out, the way people would. Good thing she managed to control her instincts there.

I can't wait for the next episode!!

Shiori's ED version is also beautiful.

I knew we would gotta bear witness a sui attempt sooner or latter in this anime. Thankfully it was done in good taste, if that is even possible. The build up was subtle enough for it to feel uneasy but inevitably. They been teasing this since the first introduction of those ghostly hands in the water. And seeing it finally happen hurt a lot still. The VA work here was phenomenal by the way. The despair of Hinako was really tangible in that scene.

Then Shiori trying to act human while being in shock for seeing Hinako's attempt was also an important event for the plot. She's growing as a character as well and is taking what Miko said to her and embracing change for herself in order to be with Hinako.

As heavy as it was this was an excellent episode that elevated the whole show for me.

Best episode so far for me. My heart felt heavy during the whole episode and I didn't seen the time pass, I got surprised by the ending popping up.
Clearly a hidden gem in this season and one of my favourite.

That was TOO close. I knew she was going to try it. Still, an epic fail from Miko. She has known all along Hinako had those feelings, why freak out now & bail when she is told the obvious?! I hope Shiori can get through to her, but even that is not a guarantee that she will want to live. Powerful episode.

Im just amazed at just how unfazed little Hinako was when interacting with Shiori back then. Having her long cherished dream crushed like that is gonna be devastating. Being loud sure can be a method of entry if its Miko doing it lol. Sometimes the truth hurts as much as any lie. Good think Shiori was monitoring Hinako. Really want to know what Shiori has to tell Hinako. Going by her tone its something explosive. Yui singing the ending theme this time was a pleasant surprise.

It was sad but beautiful episode

Calm atmosphere, rain and soundtrack - its all really convey Hinako's emotions, who lost all hope after Shiori refused to take her life.

My favorite moment is when Hinako confessed to Miko that she "just cant" It was a really tough moment.
I know how bad and disgusting life can be and i really felt that moment.

Its also interesting that Hinako still decided to go to school, forced herself to get ready and leave... but never made it.

Of course i knew Shiori would save her.
But that very fact that Hinako really decided to end it all...

Now im waiting to know what Shiori will say to Hinako. I think there will be more than Shiori has already said with Miko

I still like that fox and mermaid love and support Hinako, but i think she is living in the past too much.
She needs to learn to look forward and enjoy life and love with her fox and mermaid :3

P.S. SHIORI'S ENDING VERSION IS AMAZING
It was unexpected, but really cool
I really like YuI Ishikawa's version too

Damn, I figured that Hinako was going to attempt suicide when she was on her way to school and saw that nasty hand sticking out of the water... but luckily Shiori was nearby and was most likely stalking keeping an eye on her. Also, even if Miko and Shiori don't see eye to eye it was nice to see them talk to each other to try to help out Hinako, and on that note hopefully the talk between Shiori and Hinako turns out well.

The strong emotions of despair, broken trust and having clung to a lie. Really hard to watch but that also means they conveyed it well.
I hope to see more of it, haven't checked yet but the few (officially) translated volumes probably don't even cover the current season.

This episode absolutely broke me. I cannot stand to see Hinako in such emotional distress and this show has been an all too realistic depiction of depression. It’s like we’re powerless spectators to a loved one’s gradual spiral and descent into darkness. We know what’s happening, but can do nothing to stop it.

They kinda faked us out with the Shiori and Miko train ride opening because it seemed like we might be getting a lighter episode. Shiori wearing the White Sea shell style hair clips because baby Hinako told her she’d look pretty with them in her hair is so cute.. sadly, it was downhill from there.

Hinako being suicidal isn’t anything new, but to hear her outright tell Miko that she wished she died with her family broke me. Miko’s entire life mission has been to help Hinako regain her will to live and this is a realization that it hasn’t worked. For no fault of Miko’s own, depression doesn’t just go away because people are kind to you, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. It’s a tough situation because you don’t want to be selfish and make the situation about you, but you want to show that person how much losing them would affect you!

Hinako’s suicide attempt is so hard to watch. Going to school was a struggle for her, but it seemed like she’d make it there and be ok and then she just can’t resist the call of the ocean anymore. That’s how suddenly these things can happen. Thank God Shiori saved her. I love how they use Shiori’s facial expressions to convey so much here too. On one hand, she’s absolutely pissed that Hinako would throw her life away to another Yokai when she herself held back on eating her in the past. On the other, she’s just really frustrated with herself that she hasn’t been able to communicate with Hinako enough to prevent this.

“I want to talk to you”

That beautiful haunting piano OST.. the fear and pain in Shiori’s voice.. perfection. Some huge character growth for her to realize that just getting angry at Hinako won’t solve anything and that she actually needs to open up to fix things. Leaving off on a cliffhanger there hurts so much, I cannot wait until next week’s episode to see how this goes. Yuri is truly suffering

This was hard to watch. Hinako attempting it was inevitable. I honestly thought she'd try it at home. Maybe cut her veins or something. Desperation was palpable.

Maybe Shiori's honesty will make a difference after all. Hoping for a positive ending, but it's gonna be bittersweet. I mean, trauma is just too great and it won't ever go away.

After 11 episodes I reaffirm that the best character in this story is Miko. behind all that comedy behind the character, she is suffering a lot and does everything possible to make it Happy to Hinako, but as in real life it is very complicated to deal with a person who is broken and who does not want to live. This episode is pretty tough.

What a great episode. Miko is really carrying this show at this point and seeing Hinako this desperate was truly heart wrenching. Seeing Shiroi stumbling through being human is also interesting, she seemed so self assured the whole time, but now she is just as helpless as Hinako in a way.

Man, I feel like after episode 6 the anime improved 40x more than it was before. This episode, for me, is easily one of the best episodes of the year, and it's no wonder, here we see one of the best productions Of all the anime I've ever seen in my life, the soundtrack, the tension, everything makes this anime wonderful. It's a shame most people dropped it in the first few episodes. The ending is beautiful The soundtrack is impeccable, seriously, very good.

Honestly at this point I can't even make any light out of this anime, like its so unbelievably depressing I hardly even consider this a yuri anymore like I more fit this in the category as series like One room of happiness. Just stuff which is insanely depressing.

Not only from Hina's situation but rather that Miko and Shiori at this current point are basically a curse to her, they could so easily grant her wish practically at the snap of a finger but they choose not to because both of them want her to just live and be happy again. But Hina's way too far gone at this point and honestly the way their displaying Hina's depression is actually freakishly realistic so props to the author especially considering how this is a supernatural anime at its core.

Like I genuinely don't know how this story can end well, hell it unironically might end with Hina killing herself. I mean she did literally try this episode like she's so far gone she'll just take any death at this point all her values for staying alive have shattered. Honestly Shiori is gonna have to give Hina one hell of a plot armour infused speech to get her back on her feet and even then its just a temporary solution we still need to find a way to make her happy one way or another but man right now im at a loss on how to handle Hina.

Props to the author because she or he really has written 3 amazingly crafted characters, like all of them have such a depressing life. Hina with the death of her family and torment of living a empty life without a way for her to let go finally being driven to the point of just not caring anymore. Miko having to go through the torment of seeing her longtime friend suffering endlessly while knowing Miko could easily grant her wish but naturally she isn't gonna combine with the fact she lost the family she cared so much about as well. Then Shiori with her envy of Miko being able to coexist within the human race and interact with everyone like a normal girl while Shiori has just been alone adrift at sea unable to keep her fragile connection with Hina.

Like sure the cast is small but their all incredibly well written girls so again major props to the author. I still think the show could dull hard if something major don't change but for now we shall see, its been amazing so far I just genuinely don't have a clue where it will go.

overall an amazingly depressing episode, teared me up a little

As beautiful, thoughtful and sympathetic the portrayal is, I can't help but feel how repetitive and dragged out Hinako's suffering is.

We already knew that she wants to die, has survivor's guilt, feels betrayed by Shiori, appreciates but feels like a burden to Miko. The episode didn't really add much. Except for laying it all out in the open, I guess.

I expect the next episode to be a big one as Shiori finally, finally articulates how much she's grown and what she's thinking.

Last moments of the episode were perfect imo, the entire sequence of Hinako looking out into the stormy sea and running to the hand out in the water, and then Shiori’s reaction after stopping Hinako, man that was so good, it was a great culmination of everything Hinako and Shiori have been through so far. And yeah safe to say Shiori has come around on me big time, I was starting to like her more already but her moment here is what really made me favor her, I’m really interested in seeing how she decides to talk to Hinako from here, giving what she’s learned and what she just experienced Hinako attempt to do, I think it’s gonna be a lot different than what we’re used to from her.

I gotta give some props to Miko too, she’s such a good friend, it’s just unfortunate that she couldn’t do much to keep Hinako from going over the edge, and even got hurt herself in the process after hearing Hinako’s true feelings, even if she already knew them, nothing but respect to that fox. And I really liked the Shiori version of the ED this week, very fitting episode to have it on.

@HibiChika Wow!! You really have the solution to the problem with this insight Dr. HibiChika. Sole survivors of the bloody death of family just need to snap out of it. And to think you could phrase it in gamer slang shows real artistry.

I won't deny this adaptation is very good but I still love expression in manga more.
There was 1 episode that I like anime version more --- episode 9, but now episode 11 is also added to my list.

Since next ep is the most important part of Watatabe's first half (Well, just my guess), it can't be executed without full time of episode so I wonder they might insert Watatabe Highschool here to adjust the remaining time. Instead, they added recap scenes and new scences that doesn't exist in manga.

I've thought about the possibility of Shiori singing Lily because I noticed this lyric can be interpreted from both Hinako and Shiori's POV but I didn't expect those insane (this is a compliment) production team will do this straightforward surprise.

Yes, my complete defeat.

Is the soundtrack that good? When I notice it, it kinda sounds like a subtle version of a generic western (not the genre) movie soundtrack, though I guess the kind that is usually well received. I want to give it a proper listen.

This is heartbreaking. Suicide is never the answer, but after learning about the truth, Hinako breaks even more and almost chooses to end it all. Luckily Shiori is there to stop her otherwise it could've been bad.

The ending with Shiori variation is a cute touch.

Hearing it said out loud what Hinako's wish was, while I already knew what it was, didn't make it an less painful to hear.
That whole scene of Hinako taking in every memory she's made in the whole show as she runs to the ocean, it was so beautifully sad. I was so glad Shiori showed up, and she is listening to Miko's advice, talk to her!
