Even this anime has its beach episode! But yeah, it's not what you think.

This episode is still very much about finding special gems and analysis. Cheer up though Ruri. It's not fun seeing her with a frown.

The obligatory beach episode. Well, kinda, hehe.

Yet another fascinating treasure hunt. And the girls were enjoying every singe moment.

Ruri's cute enthusiasm always put a smile on my face. :)

My heart is beating so fast! I can’t believe it—this is the first time I’ve ever been this emotionally moved by an anime episode...

I’m officially declaring it: this anime is the best I’ve watched in 2025. I can’t handle it—I’ve already watched the episode three times! And I still haven’t written anything for the thread yet! Can you believe it? I might end up watching it 8 or 9 times! I’m not exaggerating!

Best episode of the year! It touched me deeply. Honestly, I never used to believe that the visual side alone could be this powerful! But just imagine—I watched the episode without sound or subtitles, simply to enjoy the visuals!

Ruri… she’s the luckiest anime character ever. I want to live Ruri’s life! I’m not exaggerating—she learns science and explores the world like that! And here I am learning science lying in bed, scratching my butt like a monkey! Meanwhile, she’s savoring every bit of knowledge she gains!

I feel jealous! I can’t believe it—in all my 7 or 8 years of watching anime, this is the first time I’ve ever felt envy toward a character?

This is too much for me! I’m at the absolute peak of happiness! The highest level of joy! I’m not exaggerating—this episode captured me! It captured my heart.

Wow… I’ve decided to cut off communication with people for two days! I’m going to immerse myself in this episode—watch it, analyze it with love, and put it all in the thread!

Don’t anyone try to contact me—I’m in a state of pure bliss. As for the rest of the anime episodes coming out… I don’t care! I’ll comment on them in two or three days—I don’t know when exactly!

Wow! Best episode of 2025, without question. Goodbye… see you in a week with a new comment.

As for the thread, I was originally planning to add today’s episode within two hours, but that’s changed! I won’t be adding anything for two days! Goodbye!

of everything from this episode, i absolutely loved nagi's little monologue about her reasoning for studying rocks, and how ruri is also starting to develop an inquisitive mind for research. it really shows that these characters are doing all of this work for a reason, and makes it feel all that more natural.

Beautiful

Too bad not many girls realize how much more attractive intelligence makes them.

Darn looks like we missed a scene of Nagi and Ruri taking off their leggings :(

Nagi in shorts, nice.

This show continues to be the best of the season hands down.

As unrealistic as it is because if they really did find such a rich source of platinum and those other rare elements they'd all be rich LOL

Every episode just keeps getting better and better man.

A beach episode but not your regular beach episode, its the better kind. I swear I've seen those blended rocks somewhere on the beach but I NEVER picked them up. I'm way too invested into this series, its just so good.

Nope, not silver. Not gold, she freaking find's platinum. My luck should be a tenth this good! LOL Even if it's just flakes, this stuff is so much more valuable than plain old gold. And they just find it like that? Well, maybe their geology is different than here in the US. Frankly, I don't know a decent site at all for that Precious Metal. I live not far from an active diamond mine, where the public can search for those. And I've done the Ruby/Saphire thing in Western North Carolina. But I don't know of any decent sites for the P metal at all, it's so damned rare.

Not sure if it was a mistake on subtitles part or anime itself, but it definitely should be density, not gravity. It doesn't even make sense, because gravity is a force, while density is an actual measuring metric. I guess the mistake can from the fact, that you can actually measure buoyancy by calculating density, volume and gravity.

“The more rocks I study, the more we understand of the true nature of our world” Nothing more attractive than an educated, intelligent woman who’s passionate about science and learning.

I love this quote and the first half’s focus on Nagi. What a beautiful way to sum up the field of mineralogy and this series. Rocks are one of the best ways we have to look back on the early stages of the earth’s development and learn what it was like. Don’t look at rocks as just well.. rocks, but as a window into the past to learn more about our home.

The way Ruri’s become a little sister to Nagi.. I said it last week, but the best part of this show has been Ruri coming into her own as a scientist and learning from her newfound big sister. Nagi isn’t even doing anything special, but her passion for mineralogy and enthusiasm have rubbed off on ruri and you can see her taking lead in a lot of these search quests now! The way she gets so excited about science experiments in the lab is also very sweet. I really hope this motivates some young people to go out and learn about this precious rock we’re floating on. We only have one home and we need to learn about and protect it as much as we can.

Beautiful episode as per.

Hard to even come up with things to say every week. Still sticking strong to beautiful scenery and well animated and simple explanations of geology. It's a winning formula every time. I'm just trying to write something that isn't "10/10 has rock" but like, not much more needs to be said when you really get down to it.

Curiosity fuels the desire to gain knowledge, as Ruri seek answers she gets to learn more stuffs.
I thought we'll be continuing the sapphire search but we went for a side quest to cool off and look for some Agate, those patterns looks so pretty.

Ruri no Houseki visuals are my midnight snack.

I swear Ruri is always so lucky, she always find the good stuffs.
I have not heard of a Serpentinite before, the name itself was kinda cool. That was very interesting. Everytime Nagi-san says how everything are connected, it's just so enlightening, like my world of keeps expanding.

Ruri is slowly asking the question only someone interested in the field would. She may not know it but all of this is certainly making her apt for research fields despite her initial reason being the hunt for pretty rocks. There are plenty here no less and each episode we learn more and more about where they could come from, where they go and their patterns depending on composition.

5 episodes in, this is still rock solid.

Both are used. Wikipedia says: 'Relative density, also called specific gravity, is a dimensionless quantity defined as the ratio of the density (mass of a unit volume) of a substance to the density of a given reference material. ... The term "relative density" (abbreviated r.d. or RD) is preferred in SI, whereas the term "specific gravity" is gradually being abandoned.'
For the record, the Japanese technical term she uses is hijuu (比重), roughly "comparative weight".

episode 4/5

that monologue by Nagi about knowledge and her motivation to study the stones was really beautiful both visually and the symbolism itself, which is knowledge for her

Ruri even managed to find something rarer than usual, this girl is really lucky. It was a very relaxing episode and full of knowledge as always, I also liked them trying to base themselves on the density of the stones to figure out which stone Ruri found, I'm really loving this anime, definitely the hidden gem of the season

You could say “rock makes life good” just to change it up a little bit lol.

It was cool learning about agate and serpentinite in this one, I didn’t even know serpentinite was a thing so I found that one especially interesting, and the agate took us to the beach which unfortunately lacked swimsuits, but I saw what I think was official artwork of the girls in swimsuits on Twitter today so I’m already satisfied on that front lol. But man Ruri really do be lucky as hell, thought she found silver but it was actually platinum, I liked how they figured out it was platinum too by making use of the specific gravity of minerals, and Nagi was about write it off as just a factory alloy, Ruri’s bullheadedness made for a fantastic discovery here.

I also liked learning more about why Nagi went down the path of mineralogy, she’s so cool man (and hot), wish I had that kind of resolve for something, I kinda do but it’s not for anything important lol. And speaking of Nagi, I love the shorts plus tights fit, until now she’s just been rocking the iconic jeans I’m pretty sure.

Very chill episode we learned about agate, platinum, and serpentine. Lots of fun science facts to go along with how all these rocks are formed. We also learn that for Nagi finding the rocks is just part of the process not the goal like Ruri. Ruri is also starting to learn on what the important questions are to ask when searching and understanding rocks, crystals, etc.

Were getting closer to those sapphires.

Ruri impressed me last episode, but she's back to being an annoying little child.

Finding something in the river and insisting that it's silver, in front of actual experts, without any evidence, is literal 5-year-old behavior. I don't understand how she can act this way, even after Nagi has shown her multiple times by now that the world of mineralogy is vast and complicated. It got especially irritating when she was whining "not fair" as they were running tests in the lab, all to help her find out what it is.

What I've liked most about the anime so far is that Ruri didn't instantly fall in love with geology from the start. Instead, she gradually discovers more about this scientific field as her interest grows, and little by little she immerses herself in that world!

I think that when it's time for her to go to college, Ruri will take Nagi's place and mentor someone in the same way. She's already learning to identify minerals at such a young age, which is a huge advantage if she decides to pursue this field.

Ruri's discovery of something as valuable as platinum was incredible. It is a material that we commonly see in the city, especially since it is used in catalytic converters in modern cars and trucks to reduce emissions. That's also why it's one of the most stolen components: it contains only a small amount, but it's extremely expensive. Replacing one due to theft or wear and tear can cost between $2,000 and $4,000, depending on the car model.

Even so, I think they exaggerated a bit about the amount of platinum they found so quickly. I don't know much about the subject, but it's a bit funny: Byakuya Ishigami died collecting only a small amount of platinum, and here they find it instantly.

I love quartz so this episode gets a win in my book. Fun fact, while the Earth is between 4.5 and 4.6 BY old, the oldest rocks we have on record are the 4.0 BY old Acasta gneisses. The oldest minerals are around 4.4 BY; they are detrital zircons from the Jack Hills formation, hosted in 3 BY old conglomerates. Our rocks don't tell us the entire history of the Earth. For that, we need to look towards the stars.

The most obvious metal with almost exactly the same density as gold is called Wolfram / Tungsten. It's used for cutting blades in industrial lathes and for tips of armour-piercing ammunition and nordic walk poles and tiny vibro-motors for smartphones, but China also produces a lot of fake gold bars filled with tungsten on the inside.

Anyhow, wonder why big (tits) sis was fooling around with gravity drop water tubes - I mean a university dept should have XRF (X-ray fluorescence) equipment, which determines the material composition right away. Though that would turn this anime into Ruri the Radiation instead of Ruri the Rock. 3,6 Ruri / hour, not great, not terrible...

@Tacsk0 The sample was too small for X-ray fluorescence to be effective. Other methods like mass spectrometry destroy the sample, as this post mentions, so the choice to test for density was appropriate. There is such a thing as accessibility, and Ruri (by extension, viewers) would be discouraged if science was something that could only be conducted with expensive equipment.
