Nah, don’t worry Anne, you ain't the only one who feels like a lot of changes are happening at breakneck speed around you, because my god the pacing here is abnormally fast.

Like seriously, it felt like just a couple episodes ago Diana and Fred started to even interact with each other, let alone ALREADY GET FUCKING ENGAGED???

With the passing of Rachel's husband Thomas, and this will certainly be the first of many departures that Anne will learn of life's harsh reality.

Marilla encouraging Anne to go to college with Gilbert, but with the family business to take care of, having Rachel along will help her guide the twins as well as a friend in need. That, with the 2 years spent at Green Gables formalizing everything (as is with school and the Improvement Society) and having to leave at a sudden pace, Anne is clearly at a loss. The prospect of Anne and Diana's close relationship since they became friends from young, and with the new reality threatening to drive down that relationship, they have to stick close like glue, as much as the "family" that both Anne and Marilla have with the twins being joyous and eventful. That said, while the remarriage of Irving and Lavendar is a good sight for Paul and everybody else, it remains the priority for Anne to keep things as is.

With Diana making her relationship progress with Fred to the point of engagement, Anne can't help but feel left behind, but at the same time, happy for her as well. However, her own dream sequence thinking of engaging with Gilbert, that's quite the "enter into the wrong house" moment that only adds to the speculation of a potential romance between the two. Regardless, the remarriage ceremony goes well between Irving and Lavendar before their move with Paul to the States, as much as the filial son encourages his own teacher to chase for her own dreams if possible, which Anne takes the plunge going together with Gilbert to college and leaving the comfort of Avonlea behind.

Anne's home chapter closes, and the Redmond College is her next chapter into adulthood. Better now than never (or later)...

Rachel's husband passed away. Poor woman. But he was probably getting up there in age. Now that Rachel will live together with Marilla, Anne doesn't need to worry about Davy and his sister anymore. That's great. She can finally go to college! I still wonder why Marilla never got married tho... I'm guessing men thought she was too pragmatic and were too scared to approach her.

Ms. Lavender finally married the man of her dreams... She probably couldn't even imagine it'd turn out like this. Anne really did have a hand in bringing those two back together. It's so wholesome to watch.

Diana and Fred got engaged too. That's crazy. But not being able to marry before hitting 21 seems like an arbitrary rule set by her family. Oh well. It's funny how Anne saw Gilbert in her imagination lol. Maybe she's already in love with him but just doesn't realize it yet.

Anne is finally going to college. I think the rest of the series will feel different because of the change in setting. Gonna miss seeing Diana and the others.

Time flew by very fast yet again lol. We never really get to see more of how Anne acts as a teacher teaching in that school. We also never see Diana and Fred interact or them having a sort of history, only shown lovey-dovey in this episode. The idea of farewell and the gradual change of people's lives around Anne is good but all of the impact falls extremely flat. Diana said they never fight, but that's not true at all. At least in this remake, they skip that part, so what Diana said is kinda accurate at least in this remake. It's good to see Ms Lavender finally get married to her true love after 25 years of separation. All of this leads to Anne making a big decision to finally study at the college.

“Life is a series of departures” it’s sad to think of it that way, but it’s really true. We’re constantly closing one door and opening another, whether it’s friendships, saying goodbye to family and friends or our hometown. Life is fleeting which makes treasuring all those moments so important.

Our 2nd big death. He wasn’t a major character, but RIP Mr. Lynde. I feel like we’re gonna be saying goodbye to most of the old guard of characters here pretty soon and it’s making me sad af 😭 I know they kinda rushed through some parts of Anne’s life, but I still feel very attached to this town and community.

I am so glad they didn’t forget about the plot point of Anne forgoing college to help Marilla out. She’s such a kind and selfless girl, but it’s time for her to do the things she wants to do in life. No better time than now too with Rachel moving in to keep Marilla company, Paul getting a new step-mom in Ms. Lavendar and Diana being engaged. All the people Anne had to worry about are going to be just fine without her. She’s going to be such a great mom you can tell just by how concerned she is about people!

Speaking of Diana, our Yuri ship has officially sunk fellas 😭 at least we left here with something “I’ll never love another girl half as much as I love you” I’ll take what I can get lol. I’m happy for her, though. My girls are truly entering into a new phase of life. It’s interesting her mom doesn’t want her to be married before 21, though, that was very normal back then.

Mrs. Lavendar looked so pretty in her wedding dress omg. I’m happy she and Paul’s dad got back together, but I hate they wasted so much time apart because of a petty fight

“I will close the page on my girlhood and begin a new chapter as a grown woman” the feels man. We’re finally at a point where Anne can leave town with a smile on her face, excited about the future and with no regrets. I’m looking forward to her life at redmond and seeing just what sort of person she becomes. S/O to little Paul Irving for being her biggest supporter and encouraging her to go, too. You can tell he had a crush on her, but such a genuinely nice young man.

Pacing is still quite fast, but, it was similar on the last 50 to 80 or so pages of Anne of Avonlea. I am glad to see Anne of Redmond being adapted in anime, can't wait to see what they will do with it !

We didn’t really know him, but RIP Mrs. Lynde’s husband, we knew Mrs. Lynde herself so it was sad to see her torn up about it. But this led to Marilla bringing up college to Anne, I don’t think Anne really needed to since she already had a good job and life but I guess if she wants to pursue greater heights, then why the hell not lol, it’s just unfortunate that any kind of impact there could have been from Anne leaving the school wasn’t there, we barely saw her teaching and only got to know one of the kids, being Paul, so while this may have been emotional for Anne, it wasn’t so much for us.

And it was nice to see Lavender and Irving have that promised wedding, it was a small one but also a beautiful one, the way the clouds parted for them was really nice, of course it could have stayed cloudy and it still would have been a good wedding but that was the cherry on top. Also, Diana and Fred are a thing now huh, it sure would have been nice if we got to see their relationship develop, not to mention characterize Fred lol, but I am happy to see Diana happy, we got that much at least.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

@IzanaSolos They definitely have to cut the fat to really make this more about Anne's experiences, it seems. Reading a summary, there's still probably a few years up to when they may conclude with Anne and Gilbert's engagement. Which would be at....22 years old, from my recollection?

@TheColonel76 They had about 8 kids (10 total, 2 passed early, iirc), though Rachel being Marilla's only real friend is sad in its own way, seeing as Rachel probably had many friends in the area

@Marinate1016 He seemed to just expire like one would of old age, though there isn't a lot of detail. My guess is his heart weakened over time and eventually he just became frail and expired.

Marriage back then may still have worked more on the dowry model, if I had to guess and Fred would have to provide that before Diana's family will marry her off

@TheColonel76 I can't talk like I have a lot of friends even in my area, which is probably way bigger than Cavendish and surrounding areas on Prince Edward Island. Only really celebrate a birthday with one friend and we've had to delay that for various reasons, same with mine, which is just over a month earlier than his. Already thinking about the Yule party and how to make my gift giving interesting, which probably is going to be another random grab like last year, though we already do the "Dirty Santa"

@holdingnothing 1. Stacy is her last name, not first. 2. That's not how it worked back then, no matter how tight you were with your teacher in this situation. This show, though it leaves out a lot of stuff, usually doesn't outright change stuff, so it's a weird detail to change imo.

@Kwanongoma I guess I just normally associate Stacy as a first name, even though I know people with Stacy as a surname. Anne is the central character, so it's likely the whole fabric of the show can be altered for her as an adaptation

The anime does a good job showing how things go fast at some point of your life, and you don't realize things are disappearing until it's too late... some good sides though with Diana being engaged and Anne finally made a decision for what she wants to do with her life, so it's time to stop being a teacher and go to the university...

This was a very emotional episode, as it was full of goodbyes.
The beautiful wedding of Miss Lavendar and Stephen Irving; the sweet goodbye of Paul to Anne.
Anne discovers that Diana is in love with Fred, and starts to think and feel so much about it. But Diana is her old childhood friend, and will always be, so she reveals everything to Anne and the two reinforces their eternal friendship.
And I think Anne is starting to feel a bit more than just friendship about Gilbert...But of course she doesn't want to think about it.

From next episode and on, things are starting to get much more serious for Anne, now a young woman of 18 years old, as she will go to Redmond College.

Definitely gonna check the novel at some point. As much as I like the show, the pacing at times makes it feel hollow. So many important things happening but fast pacing makes it look too ordinary.

Life goes on. It's actually beautiful that so many things seem to be happening all at once.

"Fred is not what I dreamed of, but I wouldn't want to change him, because then Fred wouldn't be Fred."

"Please, teacher, stick to the road you believe in. That's what I'd like the most."

"Keep aloof from all that savors of falsehood and meanness and vulgarity."

I love these simple and 100% sincere lines. Everyone's so darn sweet.

I have a soft spot for series that deal with death through just the normal passing of time, really enjoy the way this series in general has had this persistent theme of life going on.

An episode of goodbyes - Thomas dies, Paul and family go to Boston, Diana is getting married, Anne sets off. Some of these recent episodes don't feel super focused, and this was sort of like that despite the theme. I'm not even sure what to think of Anne going to college. Feels like the whole story is going to be thrown off, as we'll lose touch with all of the characters except her and Gilbert.
