Things are getting crazy and now there's an assassin with multiple personalities who might be Axel's friend? Unless he was also Skinner the whole time... 1 more week for the big reveal!

Also Eleina becoming besties with Popcorn Wizard was cute, aside from them causing trouble as international hackers.

It’s a good episode. I really felt a connection to all the characters. But I’m not sure how they’ll manage to wrap everything up next episode. There’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be explained, plus our final action sendoff with Soryu and INSCOM. And presumably some sort of epilogue? Can’t see how they’ll manage to fit all of that into a single episode.

Episode Highlights:

DJ Visionary coming back and giving Leland the heebie-jeebies.

Chris pulling a Dodgeball.

And they actually went for the homeless Skinner twist. I audibly laughed when I heard the confirmation.

Yea no one is ever convincing me this shit isn’t amazing. Lazarus hate is so forced.

“Close to the edge” is a nice double entendre for this week’s episode title as we are quite literally one week from the finale(one day in the show), as well as the in-universe near death situations for Axel, Doug and Eleina. Glad all 3 survived. Amazing character driven episode that sets up our finale very well. I still would have liked 2-3 more episodes, but if this goes the way I’m thinking, this actually is probably the perfect pacing for ending this satisfactorily. The final conflict in this was always going to be philosophical and not physical, so you don’t need a ton of time for a fancy fight.

Popcorn and Eleina becoming besties is actually so cute. Even during their hacking battle earlier in the season, they felt more like friends trying to compete against one another rather than actual adversaries so naturally when they link up they’d become good friends. Lin’s story about Skinner buying the island to help the people relocate and start new lives squares with what I’ve been telling y’all for ages, he’s not a bad guy and is in the right tbh. All the death and carnage in this series has been the US government.

Speaking of which, even with one day to go until millions of people die, Schneider and his little covert outfit are still more worried about eliminating Axel and stopping Lazarus from exposing their illegal experiments rather than saving people. Even to the end, humans are slaves to their own greed. I really wanna get the phantom killer’s backstory tho, he was obviously indoctrinated into some cult, how’s Axel related to that cult, were they both in it or was Axel related to the head??

Idk why, but that one shot of the African American history museum in DC being in this episode means so much to me lol. Given Watanabe’s history of promoting minority representation, I doubt that wasn’t intentional.

MY CHRISTINE AXEL SHIP IS ALIVE LETS GOOO. Y’all don’t know what this means to me 😭sparks were there from the start and only got stronger when they saved Chris from the Russians and now this. Fucking perfect. She tried getting axel to make the first move by dropping the “unfinished business” line and his slow ass just couldn’t pick up on it so she makes the move lol.

Skinner being in the homeless village the whole time, literally under Lazarus and the government’s noses is great lol. You literally see him in one of the frames from that episode too where Doug’s sitting down. I told y’all from the start, he likely laid that trail because he wanted whoever finds him to have seen everything he’s seen and then come to him and have an earnest conversation with him likely on if humanity is worth saving.

I think next week will have plenty of time for that and the Lazarus team’s happy ending because this group of social rejects are literally the answer to the question. Humanity is flawed and stumbles, but we also have a capacity for great things. Yes, it’s worth saving.

@Marinate1016 Nah the NPCs glaze it every single week pretending their Sloppa aint being carried by the Watanabe brand alone are the ones most view as the NPCs. Most defense I've seen for this show has been how much it relates to every other show instead of standing on its own merits. It's chock full of bad writing and many just hand wave plot contrivances because they have invested so much into the series they are unwilling to accept mediocrity being served on a platter and insist "this is a hidden gem of 2025".

I would love for someone to just casually explain how

I get you want to say this show is some piece of art or it's going to age great but the fact is half of the show was a mismanaged waste of time chasing terrible leads which logically should have been the first place many would have checked just to come up empty handed but to learn something about the environment or the people around them. This is one of those "it's about the journey not the destination" and "humanity actually deserved it because they don't care" but somehow stumbles and crawls thru both of those themes.

I get it:

Big Corpo Bad
Government Bad
Humans Bad
Environment Good

But when are we going to accept that:

This show insults the viewer's intelligence as it attempts to navigate a self imposed time limit while half ass juggling a series of backstories on our protagonist we pretend to care about only to provide sub par episodes (Except for the Cult Episode one of the few I thought was actually ok), numerous gags and side plots thrown to pad out transitions, and ham fisted last minute secret antagonists and plot foils with Russian spies and government coup/assassins to give some deeper plot.

I think what irritates me the most was being able to bet with everyone I was watching the show with, on episode 2, the blind man at the homeless camp was Skinner. This show is an absolute mess, not because of its limited runtime, but because it cannot bother to respect the viewer enough to SHOW and not TELL what is going on.

I don't want to be force fed and told Doug is a "Black Einstein"
I don't want to be spoon fed Leland's exact year absence and the estranged relationship he has with his Sister thru an unrealistic conversation.

I want the show to set up and provide payoffs that don't feel contrived or magicked into existence to make the story just work.
I want the show to work within its short episode time limit and simply give a concise and well deserved plot of chasing a man who has doomed the world.

Ya, there are people who are going to watch this show and even hate watch the show. I am one of them. I have a discord night every Saturday where 10 or so of the shows of the season are aired and 20 of the 20 viewers all have said the same thing. They are confused why people are trying to justify the show is mid and 70% of every argument devolves into invoking Cowboy Bebop as some kinda knee jerk defense or excuse.

Only redeeming part of this dull intelligence insulting trash is the music. I can't sufficiently express how much I hate this show and how much I hate myself for not bailing out on it around episode 3 or 4, lol. Atrocious.

Skinner has the entire world to take refuge in and hide, and he chooses the very same city (or close enough, can't bothered to re-watch for the correct info) where the Lazarus team is headquartered. So fucking stupid, lol.

The script in which the homeless man who appeared in episode 3 was the real Skinner is very childish and ridiculous.
However, I can say with certainty that Lazarus will definitely carry out that childish and ridiculous plot twist,
because the childish and ridiculous plot twist that Soryu is an alternate personality of HQ has already been established.

So all of them have one thing in common? All of them have reached a point close to death. Except for Leland ig?

So maybe they are immune to Hapna because of that?

This episode was full of things being hidden in plain sight. From HQ's assassin contact to Skinner's current location. Popcorn Wizard and Eleina bonding over their past exploits was nice. Doug would have been toast without them working together.

All the plotlines are converging and it's a mad dash to save the world. I think Lazarus can save everyone.

This show very mixed feelings for me, 1 more episode but I feel like it shouldn't have been 13 episode in the first place, more like 2 cours would've been good, rushing through backstories and introducing characters so quickly that you forget about them like the dj guy. I like the show and its fight scenes but if it was a bit longer, it would've gone way up in score. In the end skinner was the guy at the homeless place

Well, many reasons.

Most of the early episodes feel like filler. You could remove them and it wouldn’t change much. It’s always the same old ending of “no progress made”. Got repetitive after a while.

That reason, I understand, and it’s my biggest problem with Lazarus. I also feel like it should’ve gotten more episodes (either 2 cours or just 24 episodes) so we have more time to flesh everything out/polish.

A lot of people were expecting this to be like Cowboy Bebop too, I understand where they’re coming from but Lazarus is its own thing. It should be treated as its own thing. Not like Cowboy Bebop at all.

Though the stupidest reason is Lazarus being “propaganda” and having a “hidden agenda”. It’s all because of one moment with bad dialogue execution.

Almost everyone is on death's door including the madame president due to taking Hapna. Skinner's research on Hapna was based on the DNA of a group of people on an island in the Maldives that were immune to pain before those islands sank into the ocean. Looks like Skinner was hiding in plain sight and under everyone's noses in the homeless camp like most people have predicted, but can they get to him in time before the world ends from taking Hapna with only one day left?

Oh no, Axel's first kiss was stolen! I wish I could be the one to claim that. At least many of his body parts are still virgin, waiting to be claimed.

I'm actually glad that Popcon Wizard appear again. At first I thought that she's such a stereotype character, something very unusual in this anime's standard. But now while she's still weird to my eyes, I could at least see the reason why she behave this way.

One episode left, other than the fact that this anime has too many death tolls just for a Skinner lesson, and a messy streaming/subtitle release, this is a very good anime. Maybe because this is my first time watching Shinichiro Watanabe's work so I'm not bounded by expectation. I'm allowed to be more free than people that have watch his previous works.

NO WAY THE BLIND GUY FROM EPISODE 3 IS ACTUALLY SKINNER.
I really thought this anime wouldn't be able of doing such, but they really gave us this little detail. I personally didn't notice it in episode 3, only after the discussions, but I never thought he was actually Skinner, because that would be kinda of hilarious. This anime could have ended by episode 3, crazy.
I don't even remember why they went there in the first place. They were searching for a Skinner colleague, wasn't it?
Either way, it seems will be seeing Gil again next episode, I actually found her character interesting, so I'm glad she's making a return.

So, this episode was much more intense than the other ones. The highlights are Eleina and Popcorn Wizard's friendship, the discovery of Skinner's location (so close to them) and Axel and Chris' kiss. LIKE, OK, WE'RE MOVING FAST. But we all knew they had the chemistry, so it isn't surprising, considering that could be the last time they see each other. So much going in this episode and I loved it. I just wonder what happened in the first 6 episodes for them to just do that with the story. At least it seems they are bringing back some of the characters introduced during those episodes, like Popcorn Wizard from episode 5, the DJ from episode 4 and Gil from episode 3.

I wonder from who Axel got that message? It would make more sense for it to be Chris sending it, since she's the one that knows about the Angels thing. At the same time, the text was bit more like "You're going to die" so I doubt it, it's probably from Soryu. It seems like Soryu was also from an experiment, probably something like I mentioned last episode, so I guess we're getting more info next episode.
It's a shame we didn't get to know more about the trial Axel took in, because the Doctor ended up being killed, since Axel was in a coma for like 3/4 days? At least he's doing better.

So, talking about next episode, I'm a bit worried. Taking into consideration we still have all of this, I'm not sure how they are going to do:
- Finding Skinner in the homeless grouping, with the help of Gil
- Knowing why Skinner did what he did
- Getting the cure, which probably Skinner doesn't have in hand
- Axel and Soryu's final showdown
- Soryu's Backstory
- The conclusion of said confrotation
- The aftermath after getting the cure for Hapna (like Eleina seeing her mother, Leland spending time with his sister, Axel and Chris dating, ...)

It's kinda crazy to fit all of that in a single episode, and there's still stuff left out (like Doug's backstory, since he said this episode he hasn't been in a hospital for a long while, but we never knew any of that, so it seems too random just to be left there).
So I'm worried they are just going rush everything...

Also, I'm just putting it out, but since they brought back the detail from Skinner being in episode 3, I think the whole "Flower" thing from that episode is also going to be related to the cure, as many of us also theorized back then (I'm talking about the flower Skinner gave to his grandmother before disappearing, and they gave a lot of attention to that).

So yeah, only 1 more week to go, crazy how fast time goes. I'm really curious to see how this anime will turn out, these last 3 episodes have been really good. AND WE GOT THE AXEL AND CHRIS KISS.
I wonder if we're getting an exclusive OST for the finale.

@Marinate1016 100% agreed. this episode was especially enjoyable. i just love the chemistry the main crew has with eachother and the bond they've built in such a short time. the ost is top tier, the plot is intriguing, to accomplish this much in just 12 episodes for an original is a huge accomplishment. mal ratings and reviews cant be taken seriously, its mostly just a bunch of armchair critics coming from shut in losers that cant appreciate good works of fiction.

A very, very calm episode! They're playing with fire now! This final episode will either ruin the entire anime or wrap it up strongly and make it one of the best anime of the year!

What are your predictions?

Also—do you remember my comment from the previous episode? Here’s a new image to add to it.

This was a nice setup episode and I can’t wait how it’s resolved I just hope Axel doesn’t die next episode.

That kiss from Chris to Axel was the highlight of this episode for me apart from all that was happening lol
That was smooth 💯😘😘
We should have known that the HQ guy was Soryu 'cause of their resemblance but at the same time it was not so obvious. Never thought that he would have DID.
They are still revealing a lot of things and I wonder how they're gonna wrap up things in the final episode.

These episodes are all over the place, too many things happening at the same time, hard to stay interested.

Hahahaha, so Skinner was always next door? Disappointing.

Is Popcorn Wizard hinting Skinner isn't the type of guy who's going to end the world? Would be funny if he indeed trolled everyone and his message was fake; but they did show us test-subject monkey dying... Maybe humans can't be affected?

1 episode remaining. Overall this show was disappointing as it tried too many things and tried super hard to be special or a classic of sorts. I can't imagine people talking about this in coming years. It'll be forgotten really quickly.

Hope they don't F up the ending! I'll have low expectations.

It's good to see things progress and the characters actually have productive stuff to do for a change (well, except for Leland again).

I'm not especially excited for the end, but I'm glad it's here. Hopefully, the assassin makes things complicated for everyone.

I can't believe that the theory about Skinner being with the homeless was actually true. lol
