@LSSJ_Gaming agree on this, AI is slowly turning media into slop that's unconsumable. They can't take all the older shows from us at the very least, however. |

There was already some human touch lost when going from cell animation to digital. Not that there is anything inherent about digital since they can mimic traditional. But AI on other hand can not properly mimic human touch. I think only place for AI is textures same as any CG would do because even in the highest quality stuff they aren't going to go that detailed. It also can be for in between frames but not fully automated just a tool for animators to get their work done easier and tweak it as needed but it creates a major problem of a loss of art skills until there will be no artists left which you already have been seeing with CG being used a lot due to a shortage of talented 2D animators which will lead to 100% AI stuff which will all stagnate |

At least they say it up-front, instead of quietly sneaking it in and hoping no one would notice... Some behind-the-scenes, work-in-progress footage (EDIT: not sure if real, can someone verify?): I don't like it in principle, but I'm a little curious about how this will turn out. |

@TheMechaManiac Strongly disagree. There was already way too much soulless trash before AI. It's unlikely AI will dethrone the best of humanity, but it's already kind of above average. |

I'm glad ai is saving money and cutting jobs this means better anime at cheaper costs meaning more manga can be adapted to anime . This is if the anime made due to ai changes are good enough in comparison to the people who's jobs they took. And if the animes shit that's a positive because it means they'll improve the way they use ai to create a better product so eventually these jobs costing money will be cut and more anime will be made. |

@traed yes cutting jobs is a good thing. Reducing men spent on anime means more can be produced. And no anime isn't produced enough and ai will eventually increase this subpar qualities made by these jobs. |

Would be funny if the Lora model they use was one used for hentai and it keeps stripping their clothes off and uncensored when they are just trying to do a normal scene lol

There was a video Dong Chang made on him being involved on an AI tool to make in between frames then edit them after. I cant find the video for some reason. That seems a better use than the very sloppy look of AI prompt and warp animation

- Character Designs: Hand-drawn using CLIP STUDIO PAINT (so no, not everything is AI-generated).
- Backgrounds: Created by converting photographs into anime-style visuals with AI, then retouched by human artists.
- Effects: Processed using Adobe tools like Photoshop and After Effects.
- Animation: AI-generated in many parts, but final adjustments were done by human animators to ensure quality.

@traed Yeah, that seems to be the reasonable approach. It's almost boring, you know? Anyway I expect many studios and production committees are watching with great interest. The main question being how much this process costs. |

@traed and you've joined a anime site a little later then after I was born and only watched a few days more of anime then me, your point? What makes you the arbiter of whether ai should cut jobs in anime considering you've watched less anime in recent times then I have? Do you need to consume at least 50 percent of all anime ever made to have a decision on this? Don't make me laugh. |

You want fewer people making anime? Why? 2. You want animators to lose their jobs? As in, this is a positive? 3. You don't care if the anime you're spending precious time watching is made by creative people or by automation? 4. You want more anime? As in, there's not enough anime for you to watch already? 5. Don't you want good anime that you'd enjoy, instead of just more anime? |

1. Fewer people making anime in the lower positions would mean less costs so more anime could be made by the same studio. 2. Animators losing there job Is a positive they'll be motivated to create their own work in which they can also use ai to create. so more unique anime made. 3. I don't care whether anime is made by automation or humans as long as its entertaining it doesn't matter the Internet and automation has given birth to so many ideas and media what does it matter if it goes further then educate people and create something for itself remember it's still humans making this prompt of animation so still technically made by humans in my mind. 4. And 5. More anime means higher chances of better anime being made its just a maths game. Good anime I will enjoy will be made more if there's a ridiculous amount of anime created. |

2. Animators losing there job Is a positive they'll be motivated to create their own work in which they can also use ai to create. so more unique anime made.

@Wombles I assume this comment was meant for me. 1. "less costs so more anime" OK. So this is related to the "more anime" argument. 2. "they'll be motivated to create their own work" I don't think that's what's going to happen. Maybe it'll happen in the long-term, like a generation later. I would argue that it's equally likely (and even more likely) that the animators will just exit the industry to greener pastures, and the anime industry will be stuck with AI-driven projects only. 3. "I don't care whether anime is made by automation or humans as long as its entertaining" Simply coming up with a prompt and letting the AI do the rest is not what I call "made by humans", and is not a creative process. I don't think I can give ground on this matter. Anime is entertaining because it's made by talented people with interesting ideas. The more they drift away from this principle, the less entertaining what they make is. 4-5. "More anime means higher chances of better anime being made its just a maths game." I wish I shared your optimism, but I really don't see this happening. Just because there is more stuff being produced does not mean there will be more "good" stuff being produced. Especially if it's done by driving away creatives in the name of reducing cost. It's the same as arguing that having more fast-food restaurants will increase the availability of good, healthy food, just because "it's a numbers game." |

Well, if lower animation costs mean more resources can be allocated to other key areas like production or sound, it could be a positive step forward. It really doesn’t benefit anyone the human effort spent on secondary drawings that, in any case, are always rushed and lack artistic value, like background models: |

Hate to be ironic but the ironies with AI controversy are strong these days... Irony #1: People who hate AI, because it 'removes the human spark' from the arts, they say. *Same people also use computer programs to do ALL their pictures; and have no such opinion about use of these programs, or tablets, replacing manual drawing, with pencils, paper etc; which they absolutely don't know how to do and don't respect at all. So they're okay with technological leaps until the next leap suddenly makes them obsolete. Haha! Irony #2: People who hate AI because it will kill jobs in the anime industry....... while they watch all their anime ON PIRATE SITES so they give no money to the industry, which itself claims is losing trillions of yen to piracy each year; which reduces their profits which holds down wages or costs jobs.... YES that's how basic economics works. So they're okay with stealing and thus killing jobs, but only when they're the thief. Haha! Irony #3: People who love AI because it will create even more chaff for them to consume.... I got nothing here.... these people are just chumps. Personally I'm in No-Fucks-Given territory on AI. I'm basically watching it destroy online art, which has been a shithole of trolls and frauds since 2006, and if it disemploys enough people in the world including myself, well, I'll be participating in the wyots too... maybe that'll be fun |

I'm curious how many people would actually be able to tell they used AI if they didn't explicitly say "we used AI!". If you're an artist/animator, maybe, but considering how people fall for fake images and stuff on social media, I'd say not many... |

I don't like it in principle, but I'm a little curious about how this will turn out.

@perseii the first cut did not solve the flickering problem of ai video like this one https://youtu.be/GwY47M6MD0U?si=-5KEUXS26cceTmLP i was hoping they can do this zero flickering technique https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/14xktn8/i_finally_did_it_zero_flickering_videotovideo/ but still ai will continue to improve anyway and will at least increase what is mid level quality in anime this days but for the best of anime then traditional methods are still the best |

It also can be for in between frames but not fully automated just a tool for animators to get their work done easier and tweak it as needed but it creates a major problem of a loss of art skills until there will be no artists left which you already have been seeing with CG being used a lot due to a shortage of talented 2D animators which will lead to 100% AI stuff which will all stagnate
@traed i also think ai anime making tools will make indie anime more mainstream and who knows maybe the low wage animators right now can go independent and make their own indie anime thanks to ai and so maybe finally killing the traditional anime industry and its exploitive production committee system |

@Wombles Ok, fast-food was not a good analogy, my bad. I still say it's not as simple as more things = more good things (and bad things). Yes, it sometimes can be. But my point is that it depends on how exactly they're making those things. Simply making things faster and cheaper is likely to do more harm than good, especially when we're talking about an art form. It encourages companies to focus even more on the volume of output and ignore everything else. |

@deg The flickering problem wasn't too bad for me (definitely not as bad as the AI Makima video). Also, I've seen shows that kind of look like that (Totsukuni no Shoujo, for example), so I think they can get away with "it's a stylistic choice" excuse. Agreed that it's not exactly amazing or anything, but just on a "passable" level. |

@LSSJ_Gaming agree on this, AI is slowly turning media into slop that's unconsumable. They can't take all the older shows from us at the very least, however.
@TheMechaManiac they kind of can in a sense (or at least try). While not Japanese anime, some James Cameron films had AI upscales used in their 4K Blu Ray releases instead of re-scanning the original film, and they were genuinely atrocious with many glaring issues that were introduced by the AI. AI upscales will never look as good as native re-scans of shows and movies released on film, so that is something that has to be paid attention to in regards to rereleases in current year. |

Anime is only produced at like 740p because it's a pain to draw much larger images where not much more is to be gained from doing so. It's normal to draw things in the background with less detail because how your eyes work you dont see things in full detail that are in the distance they are blurry missing detail. But yeah sometimes it isnt done well and is more noticeable than it should be usually if s character is drawn off model but id say that is more a management issue of not knowing where to put the new animator working. Also photo processing isn't fully automated either it's manually controlled. 2. That isnt ironic. People who watch anime pirated cant afford it anyway or they watch some paid and some pirated for same reason. Some putt he money to merchandising. In all cases they tell others about a show they like some of these people wind up paying for it, free advertising. Piracy is not a net loss. You forgot 4. The techbros who love AI because they want to pretend other people's programming is their own creation and like to pretend they are artists for using prompts but often same people who complain about the use of CG in anime. Drawing digitally is in no way comparable to AI-generated images, as it requires actual effort and use of the same fundamentals that would be present in traditional art. A lot of artists who draw digitally do also draw on paper as well, they aren't mutually exclusive. It also isn't really unheard of for some artists to draw the pencils on paper, before inking and coloring digitally (I believe this is what most Japanese anime do as a methodology), so it is still all human made creation with intention behind every decision. AI doesn't have any sort of artistic intention, it can only regurgitate existing ideas and actively doesn't understand basic fundamentals of art. As someone who is studying art myself as a supplement to my Game Dev degree, any artist can tell you that the comparison between digital art drawn by people and AI-Generated images is a false equivalency to its core. |

@Wombles that sounds naive, to think any cost reduction would result in more anime, no, it just a bigger profit margin for the production, and a shittier product also, so anime will be well in line with with any industry that has been taken over by corporate imbeciles |

@perseii your last sentence tells me everything I need to know since when do people go to fast food restaurants for "healthy food" yes having more fast food places means they'll likely be a higher number of tastier ones too. This is common sense if you can't accept the principle more things = more good and bad things you're the problem.
@Wombles also, dont be so blatant about your bait |

Why isn't this anime listed on Mal? People were crying about mappa animators but now they're crying about Ai? |

This might be the start of a new era, haters gonna hate.
@Zarutaku Typical response from someone who can't accept someone doesn't agree with them. I'll blow your mind right now. I don't hate AI. I hate the idea of it becoming a complete replacement for human artists and writers. I hate what people will do and what some have done with it. But sure...Call me a "hater". @LSSJ_Gaming that might be the only thing I agree with old man Miyazaki on. |

@Wonderaqua The reason people are "crying" about this is waaay different from the people who hate MAPPA. Unless MAPPA starts heavily relying on AI. |

@Wonderaqua These arent contradictions. It's an AI studio. Also even if animators use AI they will just get paid even less for the work they do because it will be seen as less value or expected to have an even higher output. |
