Wow, there was just too much to comment about in this episode, but so far this is my absolute favorite one.

-English club was just great. Especially the OZ News rants. "He loves giving others trouble! He spreads problems everywhere! He made my life terribly miserable! He is my friend but also my enemy!" I was like, "hey that was pretty good!"

-I love how one part of Watashi's dilemma is an inanimate object.

-The clinching thing of this episode was the entire second half. It's not like this show wasn't using deranged animation before but everything from the drinking match was like the animators took some serious acid while they were drunk. Another thing I liked is something I like in Western cartoons too when the focus will shift inside the body and you'll see the different parts debating something. "Use the emergency 'Ah, there's a cockroach!'" :D

-And yes, Watashi's penis sex drive personification, Johnny, is voiced by mother freaking Noboyuki Hiyama. This anime just shot the hell up to EPIC.

That's a good point, where was Akashi this week. (I guess the episode was too distracting for me to remember she hadn't shown up :P)

Terrific episode, stuck between this and 2 as my favorites so far. Everything was just hilarious, Johnny being the cream of the crop.

This ep was insaneny hilarious. Easily best show airing at the moment

Can't say whether I love this or ep 2 more. In any case one of my absolute favourites.

As for lack of Akashi if in next ep Watashi indeed goes only few hours back in the past Akashi may yet enter this storyline

It's just damn sad that this is both the best show this season AND the best show this season no one watches ... except fans like us.

EDIT: By the way, is it only me, or are the subs lagging for the BigPancake release?

This is the best episode of the series. It's up there with episode three, because we see a noble side of Watashi DESPITE himself.

And yet he fails, yet again, without compromising himself.

The episode was absolutely magnificent. It was the funniest one I watched, but it was also highly suggestive although there was no Akashi and little character development for everyone else.

I've written much on the episode: here are my distilled thoughts regarding it.

http://animeotaku.animeblogger.net/2010/05/tatami-galaxy-yojo-han-shinwa-taikei-06-the-battle-of-virtue-against-vice/

Hope you guys enjoy my write-up: I went through a re-watch and reconnected certain events with other episodes. I hope you can leave comments there as well.

Thanks!

I think this sets the stage to put things into perspective for Watashi. Hanuki took Akashi's place in this episode as the object of interest, but it was still to no end.

First they barely showed Akashi in the last ep and now not at all?
Shame, she's the best character in the show.

Omg, this was a freakin awesome episode, and easily my most favourite one in the humor/comedy department. I was desperately trying to restrain myself from bursting out laughing for the entirety of the second half (there are people sleeping in the other room).

I'd give anything to make my penis sound like Madarame.

The funniest episode yet. I couldn't help but burst out laughing at the English class and that Watashi's Johnny is personified by a cartoon cowboy.

BTW what with everyone's infatuation with Akashi? We didn't see Master at all and I think he's a more interesting character, but really it's all about Watashi to me.

Akashi is a beautiful character who allows our hero to progress despite his selfishness and pessimism. In the episodes she has appeared she has consistently helped him - she's an angel of sorts, and like every well-meaning guy, I hope he gets a happy ending with her.

I know I seem to be spamming, but I've engaged a debate with another blogger regarding Ozu and Watashi. I think they're two different and separate physical entities, while he thinks that they are one and the same (he even thinks Akashi is also just another personality of Watashi!).

This is his post, and this is my defense.

I have thought about Ozu being a part of Watashi, though I am not sure. Akashi is less likely but still possible!

If you noticed in the OP Ozu switches to a character that seems impish but is noticeably more human. I think that is really how Ozu looks like. I somehow can't imagine that despite the surreality of the series Ozu being just another figment of Watashi's personality.

Plus, the same is just too much. The same?

It turns out that the director of Eden of the East is a fan of the author of Yojouhan (Morimi), and it's actually because of this novel that he added in "Johnny" to Eden of the East...

Why is nobody talking about how awesome Hanuki is? For some reason I find those who do really odd things when intoxicated attractive, but I would never take advantage of such a situation.

I liked how the moral battle in his mind was played out, granted its easy to get on your high horse and ride saying you would always do the right thing, but trust me, given temptation its not always easy. When I first saw Ozu, I was scared to think the while time it was him but Watashi was just dunk. Great episode, I missed Akashi, but I do like Hanukis personality. Its not like either girl is perfectly stable >.>

Aha! I'm currently watching EotE and the subject of an eccentric in Kyoto who locked himself in a 4.5 tatami room just came up. (Episode 8, for the curious.) I'm glad I stalled EotE for so long, long enough to have read this thread and seen most of Tatami.

The main character, Morimi Saki, is also a reference to the author of Yojouhan, Morimi Tomihiko

Amazing episode. My favorite so far.

The animation really surpassed itsself this time, the drinking contest, the meeting in his brain, Johnny, everything.
Freaking loved this episode. One of the best episodes of the whole season imho.

This is easily among the best episode of all anime I've seen yet. Beats the living daylights out of almost everything I saw on mindgame and Kaiba
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

The brain parts meeting and Johnny literally made me laugh my ass off on this episode! Poor Johnny had to wait a little longer in the end. Currently my favorite Tatami episode yet.
