This year I decided to watch more anime that would be (or I thought would be) featured in Crunchyroll's Anime Awards. I think I completed 5-6 shows I wouldn't have bothered with otherwise, or at least would've put off watching, just so I could finish them in time for the awards. And, for the most part, I really enjoyed watching them!

Did anyone else go out of their way to watch the shows that were nominated? Did your score of an anime change based on the results? Or, alternatively, did anyone take shows off their list because they did or didn't win in CR's Anime Awards?

Even if they were relevant in some sense (something they are not) it makes little to virtually no sense to do any sort of list adjustments based on their results.

A Place Further than the Universe and Ascendance of a Bookworm were shows I probably would of never watched if I hadn't noticed them get nominated in their respective years. Both I ended up really enjoying, but as for overall scores of the shows the awards had nothing to do with it.

Ascendance of a Bookworm was one of the ones I watched bc of the awards as well! I'm really glad I did, as I would've missed out on a good show.

I probably shouldn't have said anything about scores, that's a touchy topic atm. Personally, I don't think I've ever adjusted my score based on the awards but it's been 4 years and I remember thinking the first CR anime awards were a Big Deal (tm).

Since I watch a lot of seasonals that come out, I don't think there were any nominees I haven't seen so they didn't get me to watch anything new. Change my score because of the results? Umm no that's silly. And no, the awards don't influence my list no matter who won or lost. I mean, I find it really cool the awards get people to watch anime they may have not seen before, but for me they don't influence what I watch.

No, I don't trust cr, they are the same guys that awarded a normal animated show to best animated show last years and didn't even include 02 for best girl. There is something wrong with them, I ignore cr.

I don't think it's all that sad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought award shows were to celebrate the highlights of the year? If I see that a show is nominated that looks appealing, that's just one more good reccommendation in my book.

No it did not. What it did however is that it affected everyone's hopes, sanity and opinions on Crunchyroll and anime normies up to the point that everyone hates the Anime Awards now.

Yikes, I was not aware that this year's awards were that unpopular! I thought it'd be relatively drama free, since nothing swept. I guess I was too optimistic about the MAL community's reaction.

It's mostly salt over DS winning AoT lol. Them not acknowledging KyoAni at all was pretty shitty tho.

There are two types of people when it comes to the Anime Awards. Either they don't care about it, or they're just upset that Vinland Saga didn't win AOTY and Best Antagonist. Those are purely facts my friend.

Judging by what you said when you posted, I kinda did the same thing you did. Luckily enough, I managed to watch as many 2019 titles as I can

Ah, I see lol. I do agree that not acknowledging KyoAni was really terrible. I know no one wants to think about a tragedy during an awards show, but a moment of silence for over 30 people killed in one of the worst attacks Japan has seen in a long time isn't too much to ask.

Not just that. It's possibly the saddest thing that happened to the whole animation industry (not just in anime) in general. Even the Annie Awards (though I doubt people will actually know and care about it here) acknowledged them. I can understand why they didn't but it would still be nice to do so.

That'd depend on what award show you're comparing it to. Crunchyroll celebrates popularity. I don't see that as a highlight. Every nomination are the more popular and well-known series from their respective seasons. If you find one that you didn't know about and looks good, then more power to you. It'd mostly only be useful as recommendations for casual fans, though. Anyway, I mainly meant that it's sad that results from an award show would sway one's opinion or score on something.

Any awards ceremony loses all it's credibility when it doesn't include Unlasting for best ending.

How could they ignore this?

It lost more credibility when it chose Chika as best girl nominee instead of Kaguya.

So I don't trust them at all.

People just love to complain cause its popular to trash award shows and say how they are rigged. I guess its just human nature to communicate by complaining.

Ofc some are upset that most popular show won and not their elitist show since everyone wants to be hipster and its cringy to like popular shows.

Though overall this year is best received. Youtubers arent even making videos about it cause there isnt enough to complain.

Yeah, I said above that adding the "did it change your score" was probably not the best idea, considering all the drama that's happened around different voices influencing MAL scores in the last week or so. I mainly included it as an afterthought, as I know some people bump a show up or down a couple of notches if they thought it was underappreciated/overhyped, etc.

Hey, that's a great ED, thank you for posting a video! I've never been big into SAO, so I don't think I would've seen this otherwise! I know how you feel with the lack of niche favs being nominated (though its debatable that SAO is niche lol), tons of shows who's op's and ed's absolutely slapped were missing this year. Personally, I was bummed Stars Align's ED didn't make the cut, as well as the OP for Ao-chan Can't Study.

I wouldn't have had any problems if it was a niche anime. I would just have played them off as normies. But SAO is one of the most popular modern animes but they ignored this. It just makes me question their choices. Nothing else.

I was slightly bummed that the Demon Slayer OP wasn't included as well. It was one of the things that made it hugely popular. Rather it got the undeserved AOTY award. Yare yare.

I just threw Chihayafuru onto my "to watch" list. So, I think I got something positive from this whole thing.

Although, it getting its score fixed also probably affected that. Still; looks good, and if it gave off the same effect as 3-Gatsu no Lion (as in I only saw Shogi and ignored it... and it was SO MUCH MORE), that'll be great.

It can affect in a way they might consider watching some of them should ever it piqued their interests. It's stupid now if they're confining themselves to its validations that they'd even change their scores to conform, more so taking them off their lists, just because of it.

Awards essentially just gives more recognition to them regardless of the outcome.

Nah this year's awards didn't affect people's opinion on Crunchyroll, the 2018 awards did when they gave MHA like a million awards, they just haven't redeemed themselves yet.
