Well this one is official so no haters okay?

Quoted from animenewsnetwork

Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei reported on Sunday that Japanese television network TV Asahi is producing a new anime titled Barangay 143, developed specifically to target the Philippines. TV Asahi is collaborating with Philippine animation and game developer Synergy88. The anime will air in 2017, although the report didn't specifically state that the series will air in the Philippines.

TV Asahi is handling character design and direction on the Japanese side, while Synergy88 is writing the scripts and handling production. Barangay 143 will tell the story of basketball players in Manila ("barangay" is an administrative unit of a town or city, usually denoting a clustered community).

The report mentioned that Barangay 143 may be exported later to other Southeast Asian markets. Nikkei further indicated that the anime has a "prime-time" schedule, didn't reveal which television network will air the anime.

Hmm... Why basketball specifically?

I'd rather they not have weird accents as well.

That's the thing. Most sports watchers tend to not watch anime, and vice versa(I don't have statistics, merely from observation).

Plus, the Japanese don't know how the Southern Tagalog accent works (which is the majority accent in Manila)

They're probably mixing accents? Or just a normal accent will do maybe. And the poster had a blonde. I hope it will be good.

I'd love to hear them speak a bit of Filipino words while using Tagalog accent. Lolol.

Well if the storyline and art is good, and if one of PH's local tv stations broadcasts it, maybe those guys will get to watch it? It's basketball after all

Nope.

Based on what we usually see on mainstream Filipino media, the script makes the worse anime look good.

I'd be down. I know a lot of folks who live there who love voice acting, so I wonder if they'll be itching to get in somehow-- or maybe this will give them some type of opportunities in the future/open more doors for animation roles and other media involving voice work for them? That'd be great!

i change my mind after watching tv. My expectation to this is that this will be good. We might still get subpar animation but at least it's traditional animation, not cg. Also we can get potentially good drama here because the backstories of the characters are expected to be dark. I hope synergy88 will not mess up the writing. It has great potential.

That image is for their android game that this anime is based on.

Character designs maybe a... little bit underwhelming but for me as long as the movements are fluid, I won't complain. So I'll just wait and see. :D

Filipinos love basketball and shounen anime so it makes sense to make basketball anime. The popularity of Slam Dunk and Kuroko's Basketball in the Philippines may have made Asahi TV think that their new project could also succeed.

Well after enduring countless of low quality love stories, low quality mistress stuff, low quality rip-off of western shows our entertainment media has to offer I understand where you're getting at but I think it's a breathe of fresh air for a Filipino sports dedicated show to air here in the Phil though it smells like a rip-off of Kuroko no Basuke which is our country were good at making rip-offs but still if they can implement some of the Filipino cultures here then I'll at least give this a chance I guess lol

I really don't know. I am excited to see what it will be like though. It has been said that it will be taking place in Barangay 143, the editors took pictures of the district for reference. The reason it is a sports anime is because it is basically to show what Filipino kids are up to in their free time. Maybe in the future someone will make another one with a different concept lol.

The studios which will be working on it are Asahi TV, Synergy88,
August Media Holdings

It is going to be Tagalog (Filipino) and English dubbed.

They released a phone game as a sort of test, the graphics and concept are good but it is in all Tagalog and there is a lot of room for improvement. An official subscription game will be released soon though.

Pictures of the anime

If the pics don't show or are too big then sorry.

Hello for all who post in this forum, I'm Jerome De Guzman 16 years old 100% Filipino I'm also a fan of basketball I've just read this forum just Nov.30 base on all of your post I've decided to make a survey I asked 100 people age 18 years old to 25 years old if they watch anime! 98 say yes 2 say when they was kid I also ask those 100 people if they read manga 57 of them said yes 24 of them said sometimes 5 said they just stop because they are busy 2 said they never 7 said they want to but they don't have money to buy books and the rest five said they have a lots of it, I also ask them if they like basketball??? All of them say yes 100%. Its only 18-25 years old how about the younger filipinos or the older??? All I want to say is Filipino is a great fan of anime if you ask them what anime good to watch they will suggest too many of it. Filipino can define what good or what is best anime they been watched. Try to watch barangay 143 I'm sure you'll see how Pinoy love anime and basketball.
